It couldn’t be Lafayette, possibly, rather than Slidell? There could be a song none of us have heard, though. Was this recently?

I agree with you about Marclaf’s interpretation. It does fit, especially in the time period I think she would have been singing about, in that part of the song about she and her sister and brother dancing down by the river, which would have been probably her late teens or so, when you want to be grown up RIGHT NOW, on your own, doing your thing…it absolutely does fit, and works better than mine, but I was going by the lyric book. 😀 I also agree that the song has stood the test of time, although I have to say, it does make me more than a little sad since Katrina.

Except in the lyric book with the CD, its written “Tu les son temps” which is where the problem lies. I’d always figured it as some sort of idiomatic expression like Spanish or English has, something like “These are our times.” or along those lines. I do not read or speak French, though, and have no idea of the idioms, especially of Cajun French, which is where I was guessing this is from.

I think Doug Pettibone came on board during World Without Tears. From what I remember, John Jackson was her guitar slinger back in the Car Wheels days, along with Kenny Vaughn. Then, during Essence, she had Bo Ramsey in the live band, and had just pared down to one guitar player. I may be wrong, but that’s the way my memory is serving me at 1:30 a.m. 😀 As far as the rest of the personnel, I’m more hazy, but I can remember briefly speaking to John Jackson after seeing her live in Birmingham the second time, which was when she was promoting CWOAGR, and he was very sweet. I’ll bet someone else will be able to fill in the gaps for you.

    Hi Angel–

I love that song too, but I don’t know that there is any other copy than the little snippet in the movie. Talk about a haunting song! Who knows, though-keep checking on places like Dimeadozen, because there may be a full version out there.

    Take care-

I’d check on both dates, just to be sure. Can’t wait for the show!

I wonder if the August 10 date is some sort of presale, or for a specific charity in the area.

Bob Dylan is a great performer who, from accounts of shows I’ve read about, says maybe two sentences for an entire performance. So what if she had a “diva moment”? If this one isolated show forms your opinion of her live performances, that’s okay. It might be better to listen to her records and leave it at that.

I wonder if they would have if certain groups hadn’t called for the show to be cancelled. Neither CBS or MSNBC wants to look like they’re giving into public pressure from outside groups. Didn’t the Rev. Al Sharpton say he ought to be cancelled? Just that alone would have had the Right saying that the stations were doing it to assuage the feelings of African Americans, never mind that Imus said something derogatory about both African Americans by calling them what he did, and also about the players as women by calling them the other thing. Sorry-I don’t say stuff like that.

P.S: And as far as the last sentence of my post that you took exception to, there are people out there who would say, “Well, So-and-So can’t be all bad, ’cause he’s got great taste in music.” That was what I was meaning-no sarcasm meant at all. I suppose I worded my post poorly.

    Ripley-

No, in fact I’m not being sarcastic. There’s unfortunately not an emoticon that fit what I was thinking at the time. (Where’s the smiley jamming a pitchfork in someone when you need it??) I absolutely agree the man is despicable, and the 2 week suspension he got was laughable. People in lesser positions would have lost their jobs entirely. I also agree that LW would be appalled to have someone with his views promoting her music. If she’s heard about it, I hope she does what Alejandro Escovedo did when he found out Prez Bush had one of his songs on his iPod-he found some way to get in contact with the White House and told the President to take his song off the iPod. I hope either she or someone in her management company does the same thing with Imus.

Unfortunately. He slipped entiirely off my radar with those comments. 🙄 Who gives a damn that he has good taste in music if he’s a racist SOB?
