rachel8375Participant
Let’s hope you’re kidding! Hmmm….Kenny Chesney? 😯 😆
rachel8375ParticipantI remember back awhile reading something where she was talking about approaching someone like Hank III to do it. Personally, I think Merle Haggard would be f****** cool as her duet partner on the song. Although, I really did love the version she and DP did when she played Birmingham. Lol…I’ll take Lucinda and anybody doing that song…you know, it might be hilarious if the duet partner were a …… woman. I mean, think about it-the song doesn’t specifically SAY the two people are boyfriend/girlfriend. The same thing could happen with a sister or a friend of the same gender. Of course, that won’t happen, but I could really imagine Shelby Lynne doing the duet vocal (and doing a great job.)
rachel8375ParticipantI’d say she needs a break. A person can only go for so long before hitting the wall, so to speak, and I’m not saying that because she’s in her 50’s, either. A person, no matter their age needs to rest sometimes. 🙂 (Besides, everybody needs some cool quiet and time to think!!!)
rachel8375ParticipantI can say that the T-shirts I got when she came to Birmingham in 2001 are still going strong, so that definitely says something about the quality. Also something I noticed was that she actually has T-shirts that are what I’d call “women” cut, rather than the usual straight up and down t-shirt that looks fine on a guy, but not as great on a woman. I don’t know how much of a hand she actually has in the merchandising, with all the other stuff she has to do, but whoever it is making the decisions, thanks!
rachel8375ParticipantI just read it, and was thinking about how different the song ‘Mama You Sweet’ ended up being from the original incantation, or at least it seems so to me, from the lines she quoted in that article. An awful lot of people wouldn’t have written a song which, as she said, was basically like “Thanks a lot, look at all the crap you left me to deal with in the wake of your leaving.” Somehow, in death, someone becomes transformed, and you’re supposed to never be angry at the fact that there IS a bunch of emotional stuff you end up having to deal with when someone close to you dies. I know I can relate to the feeling, having lost my father about 6 months before her mother died, and I’m sure many of us can relate. I wonder what made her change the song so drastically. There are still elements of the original lyrics in there, but the one on the record ended up being different in a lot of ways. The message was different, and the overall vibe.
It was a really interesting read, to say the least.
rachel8375ParticipantThat’s pretty close, actually. The only thing is the line
I’ll prove it to you somehow
I’m done with every bit (I think EC messed up a word, since she’s rhyming w/” s***” two lines later.)Also, I’ve never been sure on the chorus whether she’s saying “ride things out” or “write things out”, although either one would work, just mean different things.
Other than that, I’m pretty sure you’re dead-on with the lyrics. I love that song, and find myself listening to it when I need a pick-me-up.
rachel8375ParticipantDo you have an idea of when they dated? The only bits I know about her boyfriends is the stuff I’ve read in interviews or whatever, but most of us have a general knowledge of the timeline of her life.
rachel8375ParticipantShe did have a boyfriend named Clyde, but if I’m remembering my names right, it was Clyde Woodward, and he’s been dead since about the early 90’s. Also, this Clyde lived in Texas.
rachel8375ParticipantSo, would the abbreviation be something like MLu? Imagine that..”Why, yes, I’m a Luologist.” 😀
rachel8375ParticipantGlad you enjoyed the show. To answer a question, yes, Lucinda really is a shy, humble person. She truly has no pretense about her.
rachel8375ParticipantYou may’ve heard the song she covered on “Por Vida”, a tribute album for Alejandro Escovedo, in order to help pay his medical bills after he was diagnosed w/Hepatitis C.
rachel8375ParticipantI know she had the lyric book the first time I ever saw her, which was in 1998. It looked pretty well-used then.
rachel8375ParticipantI always thought the lyric book started out as something she could refer to in case of an attack of stage fright. Unless you’ve had it, you don’t know how awful it can be. You literally forget your own name. I’ve done open mics and a few little things like that, and there have been times I’ve forgotten MY OWN lyrics in the middle of a song, and I’d have given anything to have a lyric book on a music stand. I think I read years ago that the lyric book started out because of that-stage fright, not a bad memory. As the years have gone on and she’s released more albums (and gotten a little older), maybe it is a memory jog tool for her at times. Maybe she really doesn’t need it, but on a psychological level, she does. I don’t know, but I do know that its never been a problem for me to see it up on stage. Just my two cents.
rachel8375ParticipantYou know, Lefty, I think that would be lovely. SonO was one of her really staunch supporters, and loved her music an awful lot. It was a good idea.
rachel8375ParticipantThe fact that she does play that song ought to say that she’s acknowledging the troops, whether she ever once says a word about them. I remember seeing her in 2001, about 6 weeks after 9/11, and that was the first song of her encore. It sent chills up and down my spine that night as she stood onstage with just her guitar, singing that song. I remember it as the highlight of the show, and the show was damn great anyway.
