James – one thing SOME people do with DVD’s that aren’t released to CD is just to run the audio from your DVD player into a cd recorder and then use some software to clean it up (insert track markers, etc.). You would of course only want to do this for your own personal use, but I’ve done this with some of my favorie live dvd’s where an album’s not available (including Lu’s 1998 ACL dvd) so I could listen to the audio via my ipod, etc.
If you’re interested in more details, just shoot me a private message.
zlh67ParticipantThis was my 3rd Lucinda show (first on this tour though…) and easily my favorite. The band was great, backing Lucinda extremely well from rockin’ extremes of Honey Bee, Joy, It’s A Long Way To The Top (and more!) as well as softer, acoustic treatments of some of her softer stuff like “Everything Has Changed” (a personal fave of mine) and “Side of the Road”. And of course, a lot of incredibe songs in between….
A great setlist, great energy, great sound and of course, great Lucinda! The last year or so has clearly been very good to her and from what I saw, it shows in the performances she’s giving on this tour. Don’t miss it! If she were playing in Austin again tonight, I would be there!
zlh67ParticipantOverall, I’m still digesting LITTLE HONEY, but I’m not finding as much that i like immediately as I did on West. Still a fine album, but not among my faves yet. Honey Bee rocks in concert, but seems a bit out of place on this album. Maybe it’ll grow on me, but so far it seems like another very good album from Lu, but she’s got better.
Re Jailhouse, I heard all the angst over Elvis singing on Jailhouse Tears on the forums here before I heard it at all and while I respect Elvis, he’s not a fave of mine, so i was expecting to not care for the track, but… it just might be my fave cut on this cd so far. Steve Earle might have been better (more gravelly voice, and he certainly LIVED it!). I haven’t heard it live, so I can’t compare Elvis’ performance on this to that of Doug, but I do like the song plenty with Elvis. Maybe someone else could have done better, but the version he did more than works for my money.
zlh67ParticipantiTunes sucks anyway. They offer most of their stuff at lower bit rates (128) and I assume they still have their digital rights management on much of their stuff. Screw that.
I rarely buy downloads, but when I do, it’s from Amazon. Everything i’ve seen has been 256 and once you buy it you can play it whatever computer you want. Much better.
zlh67ParticipantI know a way you can get them; check your PM inbox as I just sent you a message.
zlh67ParticipantOh, “Honey Chile” is up there too. That’s on the Fats Domino tribue cd, “Goin’ Home”. Very playfuly, sensual take from Lu on this one.
zlh67ParticipantDon’t forget the iTunes version that had a 7th “demo” version of a West track.
I love Lu, and I enthusiastically throw my support behind whatever she puts out by purchasing her cd’s right away (even when friends offer to let me copy theirs) becuase (a) I enjoy her work and want the official version, not a cd-r, and (b) she should be compensated for her efforts. I dont’ even think about paying $9.99 or $11.99 or whatever it costs.
But….. “marketing” such as we saw with the West demo tracks makes me ill. Why not just have all 7 demo versions of these West songs on one EP in a deluxe version? Let fans pay for the regular cd if that’s all they want and have other fans pay a little more if they want the extra tracks. Or just sell it separately?
Again, not ragging on Lu because I doubt she has much if anything to do with how these tracks were distributed, but the marketers who make these decisions fail to see the big picture: yes, sales may be up because the hardcore fans buy multiple versions instead of just one. After awhile though, the greed in this approach becomes apparent and people start finding ways around having to buy. Which is pretty much why the record industry has been in freefall over the last several years.
Ok, sorry to rant, but I just hope that if there are bonus tracks of any sort to be had with this new release, that they’re handled a little better than they were for the West cd.
zlh67ParticipantI have the latest Rolling Stone magazine, the one with the piece that someone posted above, and outside the article, it gives the release date as Nov. 4. Which is it, Oct 14th or Nov 4th? Anybody know for sure?
zlh67ParticipantI’m assuming the last track is a cover of the old AC/DC song? I always find it interesting when a truly great songwriter elects to cover someone else’s song as to me it’s a show of respect and admiration, so this one is…. kinda confusing!! Don’t get me wrong, I love AC/DC and have for a long time (waaaaay before I discovered Lucinda!), but I never would have predicted her to cover one of their songs in concert, much less on an album! I look forward to hearing it and the rest of these songs…
zlh67ParticipantSorry to intrude, but wow…. I saw the pricing on the Dylan set on Amazon ($152 or so…) and figured “that’s GOT to be a mistake” but after reading your conversation here it sounds like that’s the plan? $150+ for the 3disc version of this latest Dylan title?
If so, that’s genuinely nauseating and I would say I’m half-inclined not to buy the set at all. Someone with the integrity of Tom Petty will take on the entire record industry when they sought to bump his 1981 release up ONE SINGLE DOLLAR and now we have someone like Dylan allowing a 3cd set to list for $150+?!?! And it’s not even new stuff. It’s stuff that’s just been sitting around. Christ, I know it’s a “business” but isn’t the record industry in serious decline at least partially because of record company greed? When will they learn?
No way will I pay that and in fact I’m thinking of not buying the set at all. Maybe I’ll pick up a used version of the 2cd set, but… damn. I’ve been a big fan of the Bootleg series but why the sudden price hike? We’ve been blessed with some really great concerts from his golden years (1964, ’66), the Rolling Thunder show from ’75 along with tons of other rarites from most of his entire career and it’s all been reasonably enough priced, but screw Sony and screw Dylan too if that’s how they want to operate on this one.
zlh67ParticipantOh, i may not have been specific enough, but it’s the “Lucinda Williams” page on wikipedia.org I was referencing. Check that out and there’s tons of info on soundtrack songs, compilations, duets, etc.
zlh67ParticipantLucinda, “come to me, baby”!! I’m in Austin, but will travel to San Antonio, Houson and/or Dallas!
zlh67ParticipantThere’s a pretty decent list going on wikipedia.org. I believe it’s section 3.4 “Guest Appearances”. There’s quite a few listed!! My favorite non-album track of hers is easily “Honey Chile” on the Fats Domino tribute cd, “Goin’ Home”. Good stuff!
zlh67ParticipantHey Pit Bull — I sent you a PM on this, so take a look at your inbox and email me. Thanks!
zlh67ParticipantThese aren’t my faves or even what i think are her “best”, but the songs that I think have the broadest appeal to someone who hadn’t really heard of Lucinda… Ok, the ‘bonus track’ is a personal fave that I couldn’t omit, and it’s GOT to be the live version because she plays that song live soooo much better than the studio version she did….
