    Ditto! 😀

at least in my case, you aren’t reducing ticket sales! I’ll still go, because I love seeing Lu perform that much and, in order to justify the trip across the country, I want to see more than 1 or 2 shows. Thank you for your honesty…

    Tom

    Hey Tom,

I am not certain about this, but I think I remember hearing that Humphrey’s San Diego uses some strong-arm tactics on fans. I believe that in order to get the best seats in the first two sections, you have to buy a minimum of 2 tickets plus get a hotel room, so that the total cost for 2 tickets ends up being $500-$600… I think that the closest seats regular schmucks like most of us can get are in the third section of seats, probably around $70 a pop with fees. Paul, is this what you were referring to in your post about Humphrey’s, and/or can you add any insights?

Sincerely not trying to be a Negative Nellie, just relaying info I’ve heard.

    Thanks all,
    Sandy

Also -There is 99% chance that these will be the only shows this year, as any future shows will be in support of the new record which we are trying to finish in time for a late Oct. release. More on that soon.

Depending on travel constraints and real-life challenges, I am planning on Sacramento thru San Diego. (P.S. Sandyeggo is my West Coast name. Sandy Claus is my Christmas name. How bad is that?!)

Can’t wait to see everyone again. 😀

Remembering a couple other Chuck Prophet and the Mission Express shows I saw –

One in Greenville, SC, in a location that was set up and had chairs that made you feel like you were at a PTA meeting. It was weird, but apparently I still managed to have fun. At the end of their set, Chuck and Stephanie came out with a Rubbermaid tub full of CDs to sell at the merchandise table. Usually bashful me said, “Give those to me, I’ll sell them. You sign autographs and take pictures with the fans.” I really just soooo wanted these incredibly talented and genuinely nice artists to achieve some degree of commercial success. They must have thought who the bleep does this chick think she is? But anyway, they complied and I sold a bunch of CDs, and I made one of my friends from work help me. She said that I was getting a bit carried away, with sales pitches like “your life isn’t complete with this CD”. I meant it when I said it though, and none of the customers said no…they were probably afraid to… His “No Other Love” is a masterpiece like “Car Wheels”.

Then another time, somehow I found out about an acoustic living room concert where a New Jersey lawyer booked Chuck to play at his home, and then sold tickets at $50 a pop to pay for it. That was kind of weird because most of the guests were his friends, but it was cool, and he was a good guy even if he was a lawyer.

Wonder if a certain someone might consider a living room concert for her hardcore followers? 😀

    Wow, that was powerful.

On Amazon I found a book about Blaze Foley written by his girlfriend, “Living in the Woods in a Tree: Remembering Blaze Foley”. It was a good read, and was he ever an untameable spirit!

Thanks for the pic and link, lwj. Now I’m thinking about not only going to the Decatur show, but Raleigh as well. He is that good! Great musician, great energy, great entertainer. It always befuddles me that such incredible artists can remain so obscure. And then a guilty part of me is glad because it means I can get tickets to the shows… Whenever I have those thoughts, I get hit by lightning for being selfish… but y’all know what I mean…

OMG, you are going to have a great time! Chuck puts on an awesome show, and his wonderful wife, Stephanie Finch, sings like a bird. (sorry, couldn’t resist…) I saw Chuck for the first time when he opened for Lucinda in Towson, MD – I think on the Essence tour. I remember getting back to my hotel that night, and seeing on the news the Pennsylvania miners getting rescued.

My jaw dropped when he started playing, I couldn’t believe I’d never heard of him before, and such great energy. Wish he could tour with Lu again.

If I wasn’t worried about losing my job, I’d be there, too. Please tell him Sandy from Florida says “hi”!

    Hmmmm…July 22nd…and it is driveable…hmmmm….maybe…. 😀

Awesome job, Lafayette! Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll probably have about 3 hours next Saturday for a whirlwind tour before the trade show drudgery begins. 😀

My trip to NYC this week consisted of my work computer dying and me coming down with the flu – ah the glamour of life on the road. My appointment this morning ran way late, so in order to ensure that I made my flight, the very kind Haitian guy at Avis drove me in his personal car directly to the Delta terminal. God bless him, and all of his countrymen.

    Lafayette,

I can’t wait to see the recap of your trip; you are so good with details and painting the picture. 😀

I am going to New Orleans in 3 weeks for a trade show, so perhaps I can use your log as my tour guide. Please let me know of any extra special places.

Next week I go to NYC with memories of the 30th anniversary shows, and then the week after that to Minneapolis for the first time since 9/18/09. You know this trip won’t compare in fun – or warmth…snow covers the street lamps and the window sills, the buildings and the brittle crooked trees…

    Happy New Year Everyone!

    xo,
    Sandy
