West WordsParticipant
I would stay up later trying to figure this out, but I have to get up in 5 1/2 hours to catch an early flight.
When you arrive on the home page, there are moving pictures.
One of them has lyrics written on the paper –
Here is what I’ve been able to lift from it so far:
In the awakening, in the awakening,
I will pray for nothing,
I will stand up till the end.I will say what I want to,
I will not make amends. There’s more, and I’ll get to it when I’m awake, or please feel free to toss in the words you catch.
Ooooooh, can’t ya just feel that this album is going to be extra special?! 😀 😀
Thanks! SandyWest WordsParticipantGood ones, LWJ! (hmmm….will need to think of some more names for myself…) 😉
‘Chick’ not only put on a great music show, but was also a great stand-up comedian that night.
Thanks for posting the video clips. 🙂
West WordsParticipantEspecially for Tom T & Stoger –

West WordsParticipantP.S. Chuck told us a story about how he had just gotten home to San Francisco after a 9-hour Southwest Airlines flight returning from a tour, and was starving because they’d only fed him the tiny bags of peanuts. The phone rings that Lucinda is at the Fillmore, and to hurry up and get down there. Chuck’s starving so he was rushing around the house trying to scavenge some food. In his haste, he just about sliced off the tip of his finger and there was blood everywhere –
… sounds like a song to me! 😀
West WordsParticipantLafayette – DO IT!!! And while you’re at it, make up your mind to come out West and see the best that it can be – the Lu/JP/Chrissie shows.
LWJ, I do believe you are an instigator! 😉 😀
xo, Sandy
West WordsParticipantAbsolutely “the best musician you’ve never heard”! (Chuck’s words)
And, another True Blood soundtrack contributor with “You Did (Bomp Shooby Dooby Bomp)”.
West WordsParticipantI can’t wait to talk with Pretenders’ fans who are unfamiliar with Lu’s work, to see what they think of Lucinda after they hear her perform. (Speaking as a Pretenders’ fan who found Lucinda when Chrissie cut way back on recording when her kids were little back in the 90’s. The song that first snared me was Metal Firecracker.)
Here are the songs I think they would like best, not in any order:
Right in Time
2 Kool 2 Be 4Gotten
Metal Firecracker
Little Rock Star
Real Love
If Wishes Were Horses
Real Live Bleeding Fingers
Righteously
Those Three Days
Crescent City
Rescue
Essence
Out of Touch
Are You DownI thought this was going to be a shorter list until I got to thinking about it.
And the more I’m thinking about this, the more I am hoping some of the venues don’t have curfews… 😀
West WordsParticipant“WOO-HOOOOOO!” 😀 I got my San Diego ticket in the mail today. 🙂
West WordsParticipantI also thought the show would be on the boat, and even wondered if we’d sense any ghosts in our presence… “Ghosts were reported on board after the ship was permanently docked in California. Many areas are rumoured to be haunted. Reports of hearing children crying in the nursery room, actually used as the third-class playroom, and a mysterious splash noise in the drained first-class swimming pool are cited.” 😯 🙄
I hope the song is true that “It Never Rains In Southern California”. 🙂
West WordsParticipantHey Paul – Chrissie is not the Pretenders this time, so don’t be afraid. 🙂 Check this out -http://www.1019rxp.com/News/Story.aspx?ID=1235972, or if that doesn’t work http://www.jpchrissie.com/home.php . Not loud, Americana-ish. On one of the songs, JP reminds me of Leonard Cohen.
(P.S. I have delicate ears and almost never had to use earplugs at a Pretenders’ show, unless there were sound issues that could happen anywhere.)
West WordsParticipantSo what I’m hearing is that Lu does indeed know Jack Shit! 😛
West WordsParticipantHmmm, if this sad situation has to become a reality, could it be transformed into a PR opportunity to help ticket sales at the rest of the shows, a la ‘Power to the People’? i.e., see if we could get some press on the wires about the tour with an artist taking up for her fans? (…and if you do, could you please wait until after we freak devotees get our tickets? 🙂 )
Here are a couple similar stories:
Pearl Jam – the group attempted to cap ticket prices at $20 to make their tickets more accessible to fans. However, Ticketmaster began tacking service fees on top of the cheap ticket prices, so Pearl Jam canceled their tour in protest of the ticketing industry giant. (don’t get any ideas….!!!)
Tom Petty – ran into record company trouble when he and the Heartbreakers prepared to release Hard Promises, the 1981 follow-up to Damn the Torpedoes. MCA wanted to release the record at the list price of $9.98, which was a high price at the time. Petty refused to comply to their wishes, threatening to withhold the album from the label and organizing a fan protest that forced the company to release the record at $8.98.
I don’t think a lot of ‘normal’ fans find out about Lucinda’s schedule in time. None of US can relate 😉 , but ‘normal’ people are busy surviving, going to work and taking care of their kids, and don’t obsessively check this site, Ticketmaster, etc. But it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t love to see a show. For example, at the last night in NYC last fall, I went up to the balcony at Irving Plaza just to see the show from a different perspective. I think(?) there was a long break before the first encore (perhaps because Lu was figuring out how to do Minneapolis for that uber-fan young guy, Ben, who kept yelling out for it.) So anyway, I got to talk with a bunch of people upstairs, and heard several times that they had only just found out about the show at the last minute, or that their friends would have loved to have been there if they had only known.
So…perhaps this unfortunate turn of events could result in a lot more people hearing about the tour? What do y’all think?
West WordsParticipantYes, tickets for the Sacramento show go on sale next Friday, 7/16
I just wanted to clarify that it’s Friday, not Saturday… God, I’m so anal. Thanks, guys, I used to be blonde… And those little details are indeed critical to make sure you’ve got it right in important matters like these. Gotta go check my Outlook calendar to see where I actually put the reminder. Thanks again! 🙂
West WordsParticipantTravel planning:
Flights booked – check
Hotels booked – checkTickets –
Sacramento – next Saturday 7/16 @ 10am PDT
Napa –
Long Beach
Sandyeggo – checkFor San Diego, I got Section B3, Row 8, which I think is the front of the cheap seats. Probably got closer than you guys, Tom, because I was only buying a single. Then I tested to see what would happen if I went upscale, and the dinner ticket would have gotten Row 4, and the ultra premium hotel package would have been Row 3, so no biggie.
Woo-hoo!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
West WordsParticipantWest Words – I will be at the Ventura, Sac and Napa shows… that’ll give me a chance to wear both my Lucinda and my JP/Chrissie t-shirts. lol
The total cost of my Ventura ticket was $74.90. Not cheap and the fees do make me mad, but you know, Lucinda and Chrissie are both on my very short list of “cost is not an issue” artists. I’ve never been to a less than unbelievable show by either of these women. Hard for to say that about too many others.
We are in for a real treat with these shows!Bob, perhaps you could sew the fronts of two t-shirts together?? 🙂 That certainly would make it easier for us to find you.
I completely agree with your “CINAI” concept, and marvel at the possibilities with the synergy of these two incredibly strong and outspoken artists on the same stage. This is definitely must-see TV. Anything could happen, and in all likelihood something magical probably will.
