whoa…
vmorrisParticipantI was at a HOB Nola show back in 2002, I think, back when Anne McCue opened on the Essence tour. Lu opened with Crescent City. Lucinda’s mother was in the audience in the balcony, and stood up and pumped her arms in the air when Lu introduced her. She looked so happy. I remember thinking how amazing it would be as a mother to see your child play her heart out at the HOB, doing what she loves and was meant to do. It could have been the Mother’s Day show Lu was referring to. It was definitely in May sometime, as I recall. I think that was my second or third Lucinda show and I was already traveling to see her!! I stayed at the Andrew Jackson Hotel down on the quiet end of Royal Street for $75/night.
vmorrisParticipantLu doesn’t need any oxygen! So punk rock 8)
vmorrisParticipantAll roads lead back to Lucinda.
At least the ones you want to travel ๐April 17, 2016 at 1:47 pm in reply to: MEGA CONCERT – Dylan, Rolling Stones, McCartney, Neil Young #55141vmorrisParticipantThis information is almost too much to process.

http://www.axs.com/events/308838/lucinda-williams-tickets?skin=mountainwineryThanks, Paul, for the head’s up on this one! I may need to go as a redemption show after the Mountain Winery show many years ago when Lu was playing songs off of the not-yet-released Blessed album (Seeing Black, Buttercup, among others), and the hard-curfew rule pulled the plug and turned on the house lights right in the middle of a (restarted) Blessed during the encore, as the audience was hearing it for the first time!
Also, fun fact, I did not know stoger at the time, but we were seated next to each other in the second row. I remember asking him where Doug was because I didn’t recognize Val. I also remember his notebook and the hand-twirl he does when he’s really in the groove zone. After that show, I started seeing him at other shows and then finally introduced myself to him at one of Lu’s Tipitina shows maybe a year or two later. 8)
vmorrisParticipantI like that Dust and Unsuffer Me are appearing back-to-back. There’s a natural convergence that occurs with so many songs in Lu’s catalogue. It’s like chapters in a book, some naturally fall together. Thanks, stoger.
vmorrisParticipantReally fantastic article. You can always count on the FF to bring the good stuff! The writer mentions that Lucinda is calling from “her home in Nashville”… is this new, or is the writer perhaps assuming that all musicians of Lucinda caliber reside in Nashville 8) ? Also, he refers to “Vince (!!) McCallum” as Lu’s “road guitarist” — do not disrespect Stuart, my friend! I dig this article so much.
vmorrisParticipantAtonement and Unsuffer Me back-to-back must be have phenomenal! My dream would be Atonement/Unsuffer Me/Essence. The sound must have been great next to Mark also ๐
vmorrisParticipantWow… I would have been undone by the Unsuffer Me, Blessed, Doors of Heaven run of songs. Thanks, DDinNJ!

Got a ticket for tomorrow night! Yeah! ๐
Excellent news, Hot_Blooded! Perhaps she will do ‘Hot Blood’ 8) I’m sure tonight’s show will be an amazing finale to an amazing week of shows.

Great, Viv! I think it was Connie rather than Hayden who sang “Bitter M” on the show, not that I’m on a first name basis with the cast. And you do know specifically who “Burning B” is about, right?
I only know the people from the show Nashville to the extent they’ve appeared in People magazine, but Lu said that she didn’t think it was Connie who sang the song, but “the other one.” Hayden is the only other woman from the Nashville show that has appeared in People magazine, ergo, my conclusion ๐
I do know whom Burning Bridges refers to (Lu jokingly said she could not mention his name lest she be sued). I always wonder if the people these types of songs are about know they are the inspiration. Especially the kiss-off songs, like Buttercup, Come On, Those Three Days, etc. etc.
p.s. I heard that someone at the show last night was wearing a Trump hat ๐ฏ Awkward!
vmorrisParticipantI’m hopping on an aeroplane tomorrow morning to join the next three nights, and I couldn’t be happier! Friends, wine and thou (the latter being Lu, of course). Also, I see that Laura Cantrell is opening on Thurs; I always look forward to discovering new (to me) musicians and music through Lu’s opening acts.
