Thanks for the news, Tom! If crickets results in dropping this kind of news, maybe we should all stand down in the FF more often 8)
vmorrisParticipantI’ll be at Lu/Petty also – Sept is my birthday month 🙂 I have a truly awful ticket for the Thurs show and I’m mentally preparing to do battle with Ticketmaster when the tickets for the next show go on sale. It’s a blood sport! Big congrats to Lu — can’t wait to see what Lu and TO do with the set list!
I really hope Petty sees fit to do Breakdown… he hasn’t played it live in something like 25 years, ever since his first drummer. The original drummer, I think, has songwriting rights and they hate each other now, so maybe that’s why.
vmorrisParticipantOh my my, oh hell yes! Lu is opening for Tom Petty on the last stop of his 40th anniversary tour! Sept 21st, Hollywood Bowl! The earliest presale is Mon, Jun 26th for Petty’s legacy fanclub, with various other levels and presales, and public onsale Jun 29th. I’m THRILLED, but choking a bit at the prospect of buying another ticket for this Petty tour. Two shows so far on his tour have just about bled me dry, but, as we know, there’s always A Price to Pay: “It weighs a lot, it costs a lot, And it’s worth a whole lot more, But it’s not something you could afford anyway . . . Now there’s a price you have to pay!” 🙂
vmorrisParticipantI’ll answer my own post! The link for tickets is in Lu’s Facebook post. No password.
vmorrisParticipantLafayette, You are the curator of all things Lu! Thanks for these gems, Viv
vmorrisParticipantExcellent recap, Paul!
Stoger, The “constant” comment was in relation to the prevalence of homelessness, as I recall. Lu said the inspiration for Memphis Pearl was seeing a woman in LA digging through the trash and wondering about her life, and that seeing that sort of desperation wasn’t as ‘constant’ then as now.
One of the reasons I went to the SOW show was to hear He Never Got Enough Love live, so I was taken aback by the reworking and new chorus, but, as with all things have faith in Lucinda’s artistry because the new version is pretty damn wonderful, and over time I think I will find it superior to the original. This album will be an amazing gift to longtime fans. I wonder if a SOW tour will accompany it, similar to the 25th anniversary of the Rough Trade album tour (first set, album in sequence, followed by a mixed second set, like last night).
Mr. and Mrs. Backstreets, Thanks for letting me nosh on your fries! I was famished after the show for some reason. Sorry I hallucinated seeing Lucinda at the pub… no explanation for that other than wishful thinking, I guess 😀
A woman behind me had tears streaming during Which Will… we all have the Lucinda song that gives us a sucker punch.
I meant to FaceTime live the show last night per request of WestWords, but the line situation had us into the venue too late to be at the rail or other convenient spot to record. I couldn’t hold my phone up over my head for the whole show 🙁 I’m bummed I couldn’t do it.
Anyone going to the Berklee show on May 10th? Need tickets?
vmorrisParticipantExcellent recaps above! The Peel is such a great venue, and I loved sharing front and (almost) center with WestWords!
I also liked Lu’s quotes from Wise Blood in the post-Atonement introduction to Foolishness. Lu notes that Hazel Motes declares: “I’m gonna start me a new church… It’s gonna be called ‘The Church of Jesus Christ, without Jesus Christ!'” And she also cracks up over the quote: “A man with a good car don’t need to be justified!” Of the book, she says, “It was just brilliant.” The current running from Flannery to Lu is strong and we are luckier for it.
Viv
vmorrisParticipantLove it when Protection opens the show! Looking forward to reuniting with many FFF (Friendly Forum Friends) at the Asheville show!
vmorrisParticipantBlaze it!
vmorrisParticipantWow… not a re-release, but a re-record! So many favorites on this one. I can’t wait to see if/how she reworks any of them. Memphis Pearl, He Never Got Enough Love, etc. on this album = storytelling at it’s finest. And Lu’s voice is in such a different, richer place now that this will be a real treat. Whoever came up with this idea, major thanks.
vmorrisParticipantImpressive, Exile! The FF hive mind always comes through!
