Such an amazing show tonight. Lucinda took us on a beautiful journey. “Plans to Marry” was a singular live music experience, and I felt like we were all worshipping at a tent revival at the Church of Lucinda. Fabulous sound and venue. One story and one observation: First, I was speaking with a guy toward the front and we figured out that we had both been at Lucinda’s show in Charlotte a while back (the venue was a converted and deconsecreated church — so perfect!) and he, in complete sincerity, said that that show is what finally got him through a difficult personal crisis and transition (I won’t share the specifics here). He cried through the show and was just over his pain afterwards. I recall that “Unsuffer Me” was particularly powerful that night. His story did not strike me as hyperbole or drunk talk… he was totally serious and genuine, and that’s what I love about Lucinda’s lyrics and music. It can take us in and help us heal and sort of fully participate in our humanity — good, bad, ugly, beautiful. Second, my observation is that it seems there are alot of folks who go to Lucinda shows solo, more than most concerts I go to (and I go to alot). I personally go alone to about half of Lu’s shows for one reason or another and I always meet others who are there solo. I think this speaks volumes about how meaningful her shows and music are on a visceral and personal level — it’s not just a social event with friends… it is that, but not just that. We go to experience the songs and the emotions and we don’t need an entourage to do that. So, thank you, Lucinda! See you tomorrow! VMo (p.s. The Kenneth Brian Band just keeps getting BETTER and BETTER every time I see them!)

Hi Stoger, Great to meet you also! And always good to hear Lu live in the Crescent City performing “Crescent City.” KBB also did authentic southern rock proud both nights. When they opened for Lucinda at the Chicago City Winery shows, I think the KBB band was pared down, and they are really fantastic with a full band (“we blew through the money so damn fast, on cigarettes, diapers and citgo gas” — great songwriting, too). I will definitely pick up their next CD. Perfect venue, although with SRO it’s tough to arrive before 8pm and then stand for another hour after KBB for Lucinda (I think she took the stage at 10pm both nights). It seems like she used to take the stage by 9:30. Anyway, as always, Lucinda was lovely and both Tip shows were affairs of the heart. I’m taking five friends to the show in Saxapahaw on Weds as my birthday celebration, so life is good. Viva la Lucinda! Take care, VMo

For my birthday I’ll be seeing Lu 2x in Nola (favorite city, favorite artist, in a favorite venue!) and also in my own backyard afterwards in Saxapahaw 2x. This fan’s loving suggestion to Lu and her band and crew: Eat at The General Store in Saxapahaw (or get food from there), espcially the BBQ chopped pork sandwhich! It’s basically a gas station and local store, but with amazing food in the middle of nowhere (http://www.saxgenstore.com) (http://travel.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/travel/saxapahaw-nc-middle-of-somewhere-becomes-a-draw.html?_r=0). Patty Griffin over the summer kept calling the town “Sexy Paw” and in the middle of her show asked “Where am I????”, but it’s a great, funky little river town with lots of Southern charm and a great music scene (remote connection: Jim Lauderdale went to Carolina Friends School in Durham, NC and the owners of the Haw River Ballroom are current Carolina Friends School parents… the school cultivates a love of music!). Enjoy your stay! I should buy a lotto ticket or something given that I’m seeing Lu 4x in one week! Blessed, indeed 🙂 VMo

Dear stoger, All I can say about last Monday’s Chicago show is ALL HAIL LU AND DOUG!!! It was a joyful experience. I had magical thinking that I would catch Lucinda to share my praise for the show on her way to the bus immediately after the last encore song, but I was mis-directed and missed her. Next time maybe. Until the next show, Vmo

Thanks for this report! I’m seeing her tonight in Charlotte (2.5 hr drive there, and 2.5 hr drive back after the concert, but worth it!) and this report made me even more excited for tonight’s show. I hope she plays Crescent City and much of this set list. If Pineola were on it, it would be perfect. I’m just giddy I’m seeing her tonight, and I’m bringing a Lucinda concert newbie with me… spreading the Lu love! 🙂

Tom, Wow! Thanks for asking Lu and responding! I love that you all connect with fans in this way! Now whenever I sing along at the shows, I’ll know the intended meaning. Also, there is a new generation of fans because Crescent City is one of the songs that my 7-year-old likes me to sing to him before his bedtime 🙂 Vivian

Hi Stoger, Yes, I may have overstated Keen’s usurping of Lucinda’s time at Saratoga, but it was just so disappointing because she was in the middle of “Blessed” when the sound was cut and the lights went up. Also, Saratoga is known as having the harshest cutoff because of the “residential” setting so extra time for an opening act is a zero sum game there. His set was great, just wish the show could have gone on and on…

Yep, that’s the earlier thread that I was referring to — Interesting stuff. Just wondering if there’s anything more definitive out there at this point.
