Thanks for this video posting of Get Right With God at B-Farm. I like that you can see the white tablecloths and votive candles on the tables. You can’t really tell, but there is an older gentleman sitting at the table to Stuart’s right and he is wearing a suit jacket and bow tie… very cute! I remember thinking that night that you don’t see nearly enough bow ties at concerts these days 🙂
vmorrisParticipantFree is good! So, this festival is the exception that proves the rule “Everything’s paid for, nothin’s free”… 🙂
vmorrisParticipantand Jake Bugg plays a couple nights after… great line-up overall.
vmorrisParticipantYes, Stoger, the venue was quite civilized! None of the bartenders had visible tattoos or body piercings or dreadlocks, no one tried to snake your spot in front of the stage when you went to get a drink or go to the restroom (er, to the “water closet” in Blackberry Farm parlance), and I didn’t see a single person throw up or hear anyone yell “f*ck, yeah!” while spilling their drink on me. This was a novel concert experience for me 🙂 The one constant, as always, was Lucinda’s voice, words and spirit, and Stuart’s mad guitar skills. As much as I loved the show, food, drink, company and venue, I am looking forward to crowded, hot and loud at the Orange Peel on May 30th! It was great of Lucinda and crew to do this benefit gig — such a great cause that hopefully will make a difference in the lives of Americana musicians as a result. Love, Peace and Revolution! Vmorris (I wish I had come up with a snazzier handle when I signed up for the forum… like “BlessedGirl” or “Sylvia”)
vmorrisParticipantI need to stop torturing myself by reading the show posts on the FF for shows I can’t attend 🙂
I don’t know who else played the Jimi tribute, but Anne McCue would have killed it with Voodoo Chile and Machine Gun. Jimi can rest easy with Anne and Lu out there!vmorrisParticipantWow… what a truly amazing setlist! I wish I had been there!
vmorrisParticipantJust curious… does anyone know which “Greenville” the song refers to? North Carolina? South Carolina? Other?
vmorrisParticipantStoger, Uh, I guess I’ll respond the same way that Forest Gump did when he said “Ah jus’ run…” I jus’ listen, feel and rock out and don’t overanalyze 🙂
vmorrisParticipantTo all involved with the Rough Trade re-release, THANK YOU! I had my Lucinda collection on shuffle and my ears perked up when the first re-release tune came on… I knew it was from the new release because the depth and nuance are even better than the original! Bravo! A nice New Year’s gift to the fans. Looking forward to the spring shows. VMo p.s. DPAC – the Durham Performing Arts Center – in Durham, NC is a great venue! Hint hint! Skynyrd, ZZ and Elvis [C.] all sounded great there recently! I think Lu would like the acoustics and sound quality… and the wine 🙂
December 3, 2013 at 11:07 pm in reply to: Spoleta Festival 2014 Announces Lineup; Lu Performing #52424vmorrisParticipantDone! Woo hoo! VMo (p.s. Any chance of a New Year’s Eve show this year?)
vmorrisParticipantp.s. Just to clarify, I did not feel like an idiot for mentioning KBB, since they are clearly worthy of high regard from me, Skynyrd or anyone else. I just felt foolish for presuming to talk to LYNYRD SKYNYRD about an Alabama anthem… like it would be a new concept for them or something. So embarrassing. That said, however, I do think that “Welcome to Alabama” is a worthy successor to “Sweet Home Alabama.”
vmorrisParticipantTOverby, That set list totally made my day. I loved seeing how a brilliant show evolves beforehand (up until the last minute, apparently!). Thanks for this small glimpse into the pre-show perfection process. Now this essay has no excuse not to have great details in it… anything that sucks will clearly be the writer’s fault, not the forum’s! 🙂
Stoger, I did respond to your email directly (so nice of you to reach out!), and wanted to let you know in case it got sucked into the spam ether.
I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd last night and was able to meet the band (here’s picture proof, me in black, my friend in blue). Just wanted to share that, like an idiot, I start talking to them about the Kenneth Brian Band from Decatur who also have a great Alabama anthem, “Welcome to Alabama.”
vmorrisParticipantWow, guys! Ask the forum, and ye shall receive! You know… I’ve always wanted a pony… 🙂
vmorrisParticipantp.s. Tom, Thank you so much for taking the time to respond in such rich detail, and for trying to find the set list (!!).
vmorrisParticipantWow, everyone! Thanks so much for this feedback! There’s no stumping Lu’s fan base! If my essay is any good, I’ll post it to the forum. I’m writing it to explore/explain, mostly to myself, what it is about Lucinda’s live shows and music that’s so compelling to me. I’m a music fan and love live music generally (someone called me “musically promiscuous”, but I think I prefer to the term ‘music slut’), but I don’t rearrange my schedule or see multiple shows in a row for anyone else. I’m also evangelical about Lucinda’s music in a way that I’m not about anyone else or anything else. Worth a little written introspection. Vmo
