The David Bowie / Bing Crosby version of “Peace on Earth / Little Drummer Boy.”
vmorrisParticipantMaybe I’m becoming a fuddy duddy or too sensitive in my (semi) old age, but, although these reviews are glowing, there are parts of them that stick in my craw… Maybe I just can’t abide anything that resembles a lack of a full appreciation of Lucinda, but so many of the reviews seem to “giveth” but then “taketh away” in equal measure, engaging in snark over professionalism. I mean, the last line of the Slant review is: “Maybe Lucinda Williams is a poet after all.” What is THAT about??? Lots of other examples. Discuss? Viv

vmorrisParticipantDo I get any bonus points for knowing that Butch’s tee shirt says “Eat More Kale”? π Vivian
vmorrisParticipantDavidK,
Thank you for this excellent mid-afternoon diversion. Favorite line:

vmorrisParticipantWow… this is a whole new cast of characters… Thanks for the info, DavidK!
vmorrisParticipantQuestions/comments:
1) Is the guitar that starts at 2:30 of the song Stuart or Bill Frisell? I’m thinking Stuart…
2) WHO is the background singer at 3:50???
3) So, in my continuing efforts to musically educate the kids in my carpool (2nd, 6th and 9th graders), I played “Burning Bridges” this morning on the way to school, and the 2nd grader asks “is she singing about the same guy that made her change all those locks?” My work here is done. They are beginning to understand that songs are messages from the heart π
4) The song sounds great REALLY LOUD in an enclosed vehicle π

While I bow to Marc, I wonder where Stuart was… Touring? Goofing off? On a bender? π

I would happily be her scrivener. Lafayette, You will have to regale me with your Lu stories in Sept at Farm Aid! V “willing scribe” Morris

“We were sitting in the sunroom drinking wine, and very matter-of-factly he goes, ‘I canβt write poetry anymore.’ . . . Thatβs the worst thing Iβve ever heard, since I was fucking born.”
Thanks, Lafayette. I tried to find this article several months ago and did not have any luck with Radio Silence (tried to subscribe, etc.) I’m also glad to know the background behind ‘The Caterpillar’ and ‘Memphis Pearl.’
