and, when they played Midnight, the ladies left the stage towards the end of the song to let the band stretch out a bit. Reminded me a lot of a band named Buick 6. Would like to have seen more of that but the Twins are the main attraction. From Mpls they head to New York the following day. I’m constantly in awe of the traveling musician’s stamina. Don’t know how they do it night after night. Only furthers my appreciation and support.

No problem! Gentle is a great word to describe their albums. I became familiar with their albums while driving through the gentle farmlands of southern MN. GREAT driving tunage. The music just flows effortlessly.

Thanks for the link as well!

Here’s what the press is saying:

    The Watson Twins
Talking To You, Talking To Me

Following on the critical success of Rabbit Fur Coat, their 2006 collaboration with Jenny Lewis, Southern Manners (2006 self-released EP) and Fire Songs, their 2008 Vanguard Records full-length debut, The Watson Twins return with Talking To You, Talking To Me (February 9th/Vanguard) their most groove-heavy and ambitious album to date. The 12 songs on TTY, TTM, produced by Russell Pollard and J. Soda of Everest, display a new sonic direction previously only hinted at in past efforts. Yes, the folk, country and Americana roots of Leigh and Chandra Watson remain, but the duo also explores and reveals their long-held love of R&B, Bossa Nova, indie pop and most prominently, classic soul. “We wanted your body to move with every song,” says Leigh.

Just hit the local record shop and they had some GREAT used vinyl for $3 or less a piece. On the player lately:

    John Hammond – Source Point
Linda Rondstadt – Hasten Down the Wind
Zappa – You Can’t Do That Onstage Anymore
Buffy Sainte Marie – She Used to Wanna Be A Ballerina
Peter Lang – The Thing In The Nursery Room Window
The Blasters – Live at The Venue
John Mayall – Notice to Appear
Dixie Dreggs – Night Of The Living Dreggs
    Karla Bonoff – Self Titled

Spent all weekend cranking these albums.

Yeah, I saw that they were coming. Had a mis communication with a friend and did not get tickets. It sold out in less than a day. I think I’ll still be able to get in but we’ll see. Funny, after just saying that Tift doesn’t get to Mpls much…. Thanks for the heads up.

    Tom,

archive.org has a lossless file section / area. Most, I believe, are FLAC files. Instead of hitting the “browse artists with mp3’s” link, hit the “Search for Lossless-Only Recordings (No-MP3)” or “Search for Some 24-bit FLAC Recordings”. There’s a pile of those as well.

I have the same problem with mp3’s and song cuts.

Pardon me, but you don’t seem lazy at all. That’s a fair amount of work, but fun I imagine.

My particular lineage is a pro-ject turntable > pro-ject tube box > tuner > Griffin USB Imic > Macbook > CD Spin Doctor. I record the vinyl on one track. Then go back in Spin Doctor and track out the songs. I save a copy of the uncompressed stuff on an external hard drive and convert to 320 kbps as necessary. I enjoy the hell out of it, don’t have to buy both vinyl and c.d., and I can listen to the analog any time I’m at home.

I’d like to contribute to archive.org as I’ve got the capability to hook my laptop up to a soundboard… Sometime in the future.

Glad you liked the pics and enjoy the lossless files in the archive!

    Kyle

    Tongue planted firmly in cheek….
Hard, but not impossible. I’ve seen these 45 rpm players in old vehicles at car shows but never actually heard one. Hope it’s a smooth road and the day is not hot….

At the risk of being off thread, I hear you on the mp3’s. Ever looked at the wave form of a crappy mp3? Top and bottom gone – chopped off. As my name (vinylfan) suggests, I still prefer my “fully manual” turntable.

I actually like looking at the old posters, pix etc. on the wolfgangs vault. Bill Graham had/has one hell of a collection.

I’m glad you enjoy the site lwj. A person could spend most of their lives checking out music on there. I’ve always wondered if Lucinda would allow such a thing? I think it comes down to record contracts. Particular labels will not allow artists to post live shows. One can only hope though.

One more site that DOES have a lot of Lucinda, Guy Clark, Townes, Tom Waits, etc.

    www.ousterhout.net

The berlin show from 2003 is “off the hook” as they say….

    Keep spreading the musical love.

Regarding the expanded tour, and being so spoiled by Lucinda’s relentless touring, that’s my only gripe w/ Tift. Doesn’t tour as actively. It’s been two years since she’s been to Mpls. But, I’m being selfish. I can only hope that this talented artist makes a stop on her next tour. There are all sorts of downloads available at her fan site, quick registration required:

The last few have been live takes from the upcoming album. They sound good. Can’t wait for the new album.

Her new album comes out on May 25. Check out Another Country if you don’t have it. She also put out an e.p. with the Two Dollar Pistols which is very good as well.

I love Wolfgang’s Vault. Another great site for free live concerts is:

    archive.org

They’ve got old books scanned into .pdf format, audio books, a live music section with thousands of shows, the wayback machine that allows you to access defunct web pages, and lots more.

Hayes Carll, Hem, Hank Williams 3, Andrew Bird, on and on. Click on “live music archive” and then “browse artists with mp3’s” Yep, it’s almost overwhelming.

You can stream the show to see if you enjoy it prior to downloading. Also have a lossless file area. No ads either. Great website.

Their shows have been outstanding. I saw one in St Paul and another in Duluth MN. This band is really at the top of their live game. Great shows. My favorite Tweedy line of the evening,

“A teenage boy came up to us and said he was the mayor,” lead singer Jeff Tweedy said six songs into the show, holding up a blue folder that housed the document Ness presented him backstage before the concert. “He gave it to us. We think it’s legit”

Two blocks from First Ave is Rock Bottom Brewery but any place is cool with me.

Any interest in a pre-show forum-member beverage? It would be nice to meet a few of the fine folks on this forum. There are plenty of places – let me know…
