Zoe’s first album is excellent as well. I’m partial to “The Last Bus”, Middle of Nowhere”, and “Wasting My Time”. She’s set to play an in store show at the Electric Fetus on October 3. I don’t believe she’s played in MN as of yet and I’m looking forward to the show. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    LW,

Were you able to pick up any items? Hope you were able to grab some good stuff. The Electric Fetus had music and food all day. Hymies Vintage Records had an outdoor stage with some good local talent. Even though it was 40 in mpls., many people showed up.

Any info on the venues for Rochester and Madison? Or when tickets go on sale? Thanks for your help.

Tift will be opening for Iron and Wine in Europe starting tomorrow. Following that she opens for Josh Ritter and Stephen Kellogg throughout the US. Check her / them out if you get the chance.

Crazy! I guess I should have bought two. I’ve also seen high asking prices for the Filmore lp. It will be interesting if it sells. Brandi Carllile’s The Story vinyl is also scarce and high dollar. Seems the ebay phenomenon has driven prices up. Seems like people are inflating prices. For instance, Son Volts On Chant And Strum commands high prices on both ebay and amazon but can be purchased from Farrar for $25.

    compared to this:

I’ve never seen this sell in recent history but Phish’s The Story of the Ghost price is ridiculous.

It will be interesting to see where these prices go in the coming months / years.

The shows are solo up to Toronto. Stated earlier in the thread.

Well, I’m complaining about the ticket price because I can’t afford it. Understand? I couldn’t have made myself
clearer. I blamed no one. I’m the one that doesn’t have the cash. Understand? I stated I knew why the price is what it is. I also stated that it’s all relative and clearly you proved my point. You are willing and more importantly, able, although I don’t know that, to pay 100 bucks for this show. Man, if I had it, I’d pay it. That’s all I’m saying.

I understand how the small venue relates to ticket prices. I also understand that doing a solo show at a place like First Ave wouldn’t work. I’m only hoping she comes with band to a venue that they won’t have to escalate ticket prices to make it feasible. I was expecting the Dakota show to be expensive. All shows at this venue are. I was not expecting 60 bucks. It’s all relative. Some don’t think $60 is expensive. As an avid music fan the choice then becomes do I see one show or three or four less expensive shows. I’d like to say that I’m not blaming Lucinda, or any artist for that matter. I’m just frustrated that I won’t be able to attend certain shows and I guess that’s just how it goes.

Unfortunately the $25 price WAS too good to be true. $60 for in front of the stage. $50 for slightly obscured sight line seats. WAY too much for my blood. Damn. I’d love to see that show.

Anyone have any idea how much the Dakota shows will go for? The paper says $50. The Dakota’s website says $25 – $60. One show a night or two? Two is typical for this type of event but it doesn’t seem likely. Sure hope I can score a couple for $25 as I can’t afford $50. I’ll find out at 10 am C.S.T. And, will she be coming to a less expensive venue in Minneapolis sometime on the full band tour? Thanks.

    Tim,

Glad you liked the show. I’m excited to see the band with Eric on guitar. Scott McCall played with Tift on her Another Country tour and is now touring with Ray Lamontagne – maybe he was sitting next to you as well. Tift opened for Amos here in Mpls a while back. The venue was large and the audience was there for Amos. She was solo and did a fine job considering the bar chatter and cavernous room.

Pardon me if this has been mentioned before but, If you head to tiftmerritt.net and do a quick registration, there are quite a few live songs available for download as well as the entire Tambourine album done acoustically.

It’s going to be a great couple of months musically with Built To Spill tonight, The Heartless Bastards next Tuesday, Tift, Brandi Carlile, Rosanne Cash, Hayes Carll, Michelle Shocked, Ruthie Foster, Dr. John and the Radiators all coming to Mpls. Unreal.

I can’t wait for Lucinda’s new music and tour. She plays Mpls often (thankfully) and I had the chance to have her sign my copy of Little Honey. Lucinda, it was a rainy, windy night at Britt’s and I was the dumbfounded fellow who pulled the vinyl from under my shirt. I really was speechless. Unfortunately, I didn’t offer to buy you a cocktail or anything. If the chance ever comes again, it’ll be the first damn thing I say.

I came across this quote from Tift and it pretty much sums up why she doesn’t tour that often, which is my only problem with her. I wonder if Lucinda feels the same way.

“It’s a weird thing figuring out how art and commerce work together. Mostly, I don’t think about chart success or awards or anything. Even though I did get Grammy and AMA nods a few years back. Mostly, I figure, I just have to keep my head down, do my work and be zen about things. Not think about the outcome. I know what I do. I write and sing southern ghost stories.”

Merritt pauses and sighs, the months of recording, and the fickleness of the music business weighing on her.

“You know,” she says, “going out on the road is tough. The selling part, anyway. It makes you feel like a carny—which I don’t like. But it’s OK. I’m really proud of the new record. So if touring is how you get people to hear what you’ve done, it’s OK. I guess I can go out and be a carny for a little while.”

I am lucky enough to see the carnival Aug. 1 in Mpls. Dawn Landes is opening.

I certainly enjoyed all of the above. Fastest guitar playing? Hard to tell. Depends on the day. Maybe “Most Interesting”? Here’s my choice. Mr. Charlie Hunter.

If you get a chance to see this guy live – he tours relentlessly – I highly recommend it. Constantly changing the musicians around him to bring out the best in his playing.

Thanks for the clips and the poll.
