Better late than never -here is the setlist. Given that this was the last show of a long leg and it was an outdoor festival in front of a lively audience it was decided to do the rock set. And it definitely was. Once it got going, this was probably one of the most all out rocking sets Lu has ever done -I remember Bonaroo a couple years ago being pretty similar but this one may have surpassed that. Early in the set Lu mentioned “ok now we’re going to kick out the jams” (a reference to an MC5 song for anyone wondering) and she wasn’t kidding. The version of Honey Bee was by far the fastest punk rock version ever -it was off the hook. Afterwards she was laughing saying that she knew that she had started it too fast but the adrenalin was there so she decided to just play it that fast and the band just followed. After that finishing up with Rockin’ In The Free World was perfect and the crowd went crazy. I did shoot some video of some of it from immediate stage right -just haven’t had a time to look at it and upload and edit it. All in all a great finish to the summer.

    CAN’T LET GO
    CRESCENT CITY
    PINEOLA
    DRUNKEN ANGEL
    BORN TO BE LOVED
I LOST IT ( I think this is about the time of the kick out the jams mention)
    ARE YOU DOWN
    OUT OF TOUCH
    BLEEDING FINGERS
    COME ON
    ESSENCE
    CHANGE THE LOCKS
    CROSS TO BEAR
    RIGHTEOUSLY
    JOY
    HONEY BEE
    ROCKIN’ IN THE FREE WORLD

Tom Waits also has a song called Lucinda on his Orphans cd.

Car Wheels was not a Lost Highway release -it was on Mercury. It’s success was one of the reasons that LH was started.
LH wanted to Essence vinyl for the anniversary but they did not want to pay to have it remastered for vinyl so I declined to release it that way. If you don’t remaster for vinyl it will sound like crap so it was an easy decision.

We hope to have both of these reissued on vinyl–hopefully next year.

Interesting that you bring that up as it is something that I think about. I’m just not sure that there are enough people that really care about sound quality anymore. But as I said it is something that I continue to consider for future releases.

Probably not supposed to say anything official yet but Lucinda will be at this year’s Bridge School benefit.

The two shows in Spain would be this year but at this point they are very much up in the air. Probably 50/50 chance at best. It was brought up by Lucinda’s agent and I said that we would definitely want to do them if it was possible but I haven’t heard anything back for awhile so it’s getting less likely every day.

There may be two additional shows in Spain but that will probably be it for this year. It’s very possible that Lucinda could do a longer European run next summer.

Here is where the setlist started:
    Can’t Let Go
    Crescent City
    Pineola
    Drunken Angel
    Jackson / Greenville
    World Without Tears / Ventura
Copenhagen / Born To Be Loved
    Trying To Get To Heaven
    Jailhouse Tears
    I Lost It
    Something Wicked
    Essence
    Change The Locks
Cross To Bear / Unsuffer Me
    Righteously / Out Of Touch
    Joy
    Honey Bee

    Hard TIme Killin’ Floor
    Blessed
    Get RIght w/ God

And here’s where it ended up:
    Can’t Let Go
    Crescent City
    Pineola
    Drunken Angel
    Greenville
    World Without Tears
    Born To Be Loved
    Trying To Get To Heaven
    Jailhouse Tears
    I Lost It
    Come On
    Essence
    Change The Locks
    Cross To Bear
    Righteously
    Joy
    Honey Bee

    Bleeding Fingers
    Rockin’ In The Free World
    Get Right w/ God

After Jailhouse Tears got a raucous response Lu noticed that the audience was more in the party mode so she made a couple adjustments to the setlist. Someone had been yelling for Bleeding Fingers so that was added to the encore -as was Rockin’ In The Free World. Fun night.
One more to go on this rather long and exhausting run.

It got worked out -she played Honey Bee on acoustic the next night in Boston and agreed with me that that didn’t really work either. Just a matter of finding the right guitar tones for those songs.

Very surprised there wasn’t one mention -here or in all the comments on FB- of Lu throwing down her electric guitar and the end of the set–well it was sort of a drop/throw. I guess I shouldn’t have talked her into trying the electric on Hard Times, Joy and Honey Bee. I thought it worked (in the big outdoor setting) but she disagreed.

Stoger – Re: the complaint quote– If only the critics could have the grasp and understanding of the language as yourself and the artists they’re writing about then it would make sense. It’s more important to mention something like that than to say that Lu got a very rousing standing ovation -as did John.
Also -it should noted that the picture they used was not from this show–or is that just the hat wearing ghost of Butch hovering in the background.

Tonyg- Lu played 60 and John played 90 including the one song encore with Lu. It may have been slightly longer in Boston.

Another great night -Lu has such immense love and respect for John going back to when Lu lived in Nashville and they got to know each other. It was quite a conversation they had after the show -lot’s of old stories etc.
Our fornt of house wizard James had BoA plaza sounding like a 200 seat theatre. I went out beyond the covered area and I could hear every nuance in Lu’s voice and Doug’s guitar. He certainly had the full array of challenging types of venues on this run and made every single one sing. In addition to being brilliant he puts in an amazing amount of effort to make it all happen.
    Here’s the setlist:

    Can’t Let Go
    Pineola
    People Talkin’
    World Without Tears
    I Look At The World
    Blessed
    Jailhouse Tears
    Drunken Angel
    Change The Locks
    Hard Time Killin’ Floor Blues
    Honey Bee
    Joy

This run ends with the 8/25 Telluride show -won’t be any after that. It is quite possible – with the exception of a couple shows in SF in early Oct. around Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (not confirmed yet and probably 60/40 chance of happening) that this leg will be it for the US this year.
