Unfortunately, the New Years show this year will not happen. Although Lu completely wanted to do it–in fact her desire to play kept it alive after I thought we had no options. However other things just didn’t quite work out for this year. On to 2013.
TOverbyParticipantI thought it was not going to happen but now there is still a chance. Will know more soon.
TOverbyParticipantJust adding official confirmation that we’ve added the second show at the Kessler in Dallas, (which now becomes the first show) on the 15th.
TOverbyParticipantJust back from London so a bit jet lagged to say the least – this is a duo run with Lu and Doug. I will have full dates in the next few days but I can say that it will begin in San Diego (Belly Up) on 1/9 going thru the SW & SE and end in Mpls (Dakota) on 2/1 & 2.
Then we gotta make a new record.TOverbyParticipantFull band shows
TOverbyParticipantIt is being discussed but I would put the chances at less than 50/50 at this point.
TOverbyParticipantThe West Memphis 3 soundtrack is coming out 12/11 but that will be very tight. The John Denver tribute record is coming early next year -Jan. I believe.
More things coming -and a lot more news coming very soon. Next year is going to be very busy.TOverbyParticipantThanks for posting that I hadn’t seen it. Lucinda was very excited to read it. For whatever reason I still haven’t heard any of the versions that they recorded- I guess they are making sure they don’t leak- but Buddy M. told me that the version with Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) is outta this world. I think some version of the song starts to appear tonight in episode 4 but that may have changed.
TOverbyParticipantNot sure but gotta pick one soon. She really wanted to Leavin’ On A Jet Plane but MMJ beat her to it.
TOverbyParticipantI can confirm that there will 2-3 weeks of duo shows (Lu + Doug) at the end of Jan into Feb. These will be duo shows -the first one we confirmed was the Ann Arbor Folk Fest for 1/26. I believe we also confirmed Birmingham–it looks like that will be 1/23 but that is brand new info so it could change.
I don’t expect many shows beyond these -until late spring early summer as we gotta make a record in there somewhere.
That’s the story right now and I’m stickin’ to it.TOverbyParticipantYes -I do -but I’m going to move the answer over to the Records section.
TOverbyParticipantRight now it is looking like most of the artists will be playing both days -but of course that could change as I haven’t been given any info either way. That’s just what i’m hearing thru the grapevine.
TOverbyParticipantI believe the song your wondering about is a Howlin’ Wolf song called Come To Me Baby which includes the line “slide a little love to me”. She did record it in 1998 for a Tribute To Howlin’ Wolf record on Telarc Records. Your question however has raised another question that I will be looking into. Telarc apparently used the song again in 2000 for a record called A Salute To Chicago Blues Masters. The interesting thing is that judging from the 30 second clips they are different mixes and possibly different recordings as the 1998 version is 3:11 and the vocals are heavily reverbed. The 2000 version is 5:45 and with no reverb on the vocal (or very little) -This could be an error at allmusic.com but either way the clips are different parts of the song and definitely sound different.
To answer the second part of your question she still does the song albeit very rarely and hasn’t done it for quite awhile – and I believe it does appear on at least one bootleg that i’ve seen.TOverbyParticipantFYI-We still don’t know which day Lucinda is playing.
TOverbyParticipantThe New Yorker event is all in front of a live audience – I expect that the format will similar to the Live From The Actors Studio if anyone has seen that.
