It is very unlikely that there will be any more dates will be added into July. In addition to the non-offer offer for Paris, we had offers for two shows in Austria and two shows in Italy -but they weren’t good enough-especially combined with Paris- to make the extra week work without it being at huge loss. We had to give a fast answer on the Italian shows as they were festivals so we had to turn them all down.
TOverbyParticipantIt is Mark Cuban’s new channel -I believe it is a renamed version of HDNET. They run a lot of concerts and music programming. It is channel 340 on DirecTv.

Hello,
Why don’t you visit France during your European tour?
Please, come to Bordeaux (France)My best regards
We would love to come to France however there seems to be a problem with the promoters in France. We tried very hard to add Paris in again this year but it did not work out. Unfortunately we played Paris twice in the past few years with a bad promoter and he didn’t bother to promote the shows –the last time there I thought we had made some progress but they are quite anxious to hold those past two shows against us and as a result we could not get even close to a reasonable offer. In fact it was insulting. We could not afford to play there again at a complete loss so as of right now France is not happening and I am very disappointed about that.
TOverbyParticipantI’ve been meaning to respond to this thread since we were in Fayetteville visiting Miller, but for some reason couldn’t sign in. It was a small irony when this topic popped up because there was a beautiful print made for Lucinda and Miller’s Poetry Sung Poetry Said show in Chicago in 2004 (i believe). It is a block print done by Kevin Bradley who had Yee Haw Industries in Knoxville and has done a couple of other designs for Lucinda (including the Raised On Polk Salad and Poetry t-shirt for Car Wheels). Anyway, the print which is displayed at Miller’s house, has the words to Miller’s A Poem For Emily on the left side and the words to Blue on the right side. The irony is that A Poem For Emily is about the birth of Emily, Lucinda’s niece. When this thread popped up I thought the whole death and birth thing was, well….ironic.
I should add that if anyone ever sees this print show up on Ebay or elsewhere I would like to know as I do not believe that Lucinda has one -and there were only a hundred made.I also have to add that the response earlier in this thread of “they’re not worth it in the end” was absolutely hilarious.
The post of the year.TOverbyParticipantGood question -I kept meaning to bring it back but it just never quite made it back in. It’s some times hard to fit in because it’s a little long -but it was a real highlight of this run so I probably shouldn’t worry about that any more.
TOverbyParticipantAnd for some more trivia, albeit a bit morbid, Walter Hyatt of Uncle Walt’s was killed in the infamous ValuJet flight in 1996, and I have heard Lucinda mention this as a contributing factor to her fear of flying problem that she now has overcome.
This is from wikipedia:
Following a gig in Key West with the King Tears Band, Hyatt boarded ValuJet Flight 592 on May 11, 1996 to attend his daughter Haley’s graduation. However, the plane caught fire and crashed into the Everglades, killing all 110 passengers and crew on board.[1]TOverbyParticipantWell even I learn something every day. To answer Tom’s question, yes she did perform as Lucinda around that time. When I asked her if she was just Lucinda then she said “yes, didn’t you know that”. Uhhh no I didn’t.
She’s not sure who that is on the cover -I said it looks like a young Warren Zevon -at which Lucinda scoffed and said “no he never played Kerrville”. She was also looking at the person sitting down behind him and was thinking it might be Willis Alan Ramsey (now very reclusive-and who apparently has been working on his 2nd record for 35 years–no kidding, but that’s another story) or maybe even Joe Ely, but I don’t think it’s Joe. I guess a little more research is needed.
TOverbyParticipantWe were very unsure how this night would go. 30 miles from Madison. Very very old theater that seemed to creak with every step back stage. It felt like the oldest theatre we had played in recent memory-especially with City Hall on the first floor. It seemed like we were on the set of It’s A Wonderful Life. It made it a little difficult to figure out how the crowd would be but it turned out to be a very warm and receptive audience. Lu started out the night by telling a story about about sitting on the bus that afternoon and watching a policeman give a ticket to woman who had apparently locked her keys in her car. After ticketing her he then helped her get the door open. Lu then introduced World Without Tears by saying “maybe I should change the title to World Without Tickets”.

I just realized that I left off I Look At The World from night 5’s setlist. I’ll have to add that back in.
And yes that was our Lily Mae playing with Jack on the Grammy’s -she flew straight from Mpls to LA on Fri morning for rehearsals. It was a very difficult goodbye for her and Lu on Thurs night.
TOverbyParticipantSo that’s it -what a week in Mpls. By my count 68 different songs over the five nights. Just did some quick little number -songs were played from every Lu album and here is how it breaks down:
Ramblin’ – 2
Happy Woman – 2

Sweet Old World – 4

Covers by Eddy Arnold (Hank Cochran), Memphis Minnie, Skip James, Bob Dylan, Mattie Delaney, Hank Williams, Lil’ Son Jackson, Howlin Wolf (2), Slim Dunlap, ZZ TopAlmost as interesting was wasn’t played -here are a few: Sweet Old World (although Ben Kyle asked Lu if he could do it on Weds, which he did), Still I Long For Your Kiss, Out Of Touch, Steal Your Love, Are You Alright?, West, Righteously & Buttercup.
Now it’s time to get going on the next chapter.
TOverbyParticipantNight 5 setlist:
The big final night with 10 songs making their Mpls debut & 7 making their tour debut. From Minneapolis to Essence the set took a real turn toward the dark side -Lu chose to do Seeing Black instead of Out Of Touch. At one point after Essence Lu noted that she was doing some “intense songs”. Partners In Crime is the song she recently recorded for a benefit record for Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap. It should be available on Itunes sometime this month. She worked on it with Doug right before the show and really wanted to do it. She killed it and it was a really touching moment.Right In Time

Lots of highlights -great to hear Big Red Sun again after a long hiatus. Memphis Pearl and I Don’t Know How You’re Livin’ were also stellar. How You’re Livin was preceded about Lu talking about the song being about her brother. Everything Has Changed w/ Lily Mae was simply spinee tingling. Can’t Let Go

TOverbyParticipantAll in all Jon’s review is fair but it’s a good example of there’s more than meets the eye. We decided to keep the set a little bit quieter in the first part just to get a feel for the room. After playing elevated stages in deep rooms in Chicago, Dallas and elsewhere the Dakota is a wide room -meaning it extends to the right and left instead of back from the stage. Also the stage is not elevated very much so the people right around the stage are right on top of the amps. It was on everyone’s mind and we (including Lu) were very nervous that Doug’s normal volume would peel the faces of the people around the stage. And of course there had to be a woman sitting right in front of Doug with her fingers in her ears. Lu asked a couple of times if it was too loud and most everyone said Noooo!!! Turn it up!!!! While we really can’t play at the volume that we have been playing at, I think tonight will be a little different. Sometimes you try and have the right concerns but you just can’t win.
