TOverbyParticipant
Hey Mr. Stoger -the “hold off” was in reference to the Ventura show not the SD show. I sent you an email also.
TOverbyParticipantI understand that the plastic chairs are not ideal but beyond that it has been my overall impression that it is a great setting for a show being right on the water etc. This is the third time Lucinda will have played there since I have been with her and the feedback that I have received about the venue has always been mostly positive. I have not heard of any complaints about security at any of our other shows -both of which ended up pretty “energetic”. I have spoken with other artists who enjoy playing there, and I know Lucinda always has. If we felt it was not a good place to watch or play a show we wouldn’t continue to play it.
TOverbyParticipantI am completely f***ing incensed that this has happened and I have reached out to Lucinda’s agent who was equally upset. This is going to be addressed-and addressed seriously. I will post any updates as I get them, but I have to be honest here and say hold off on buying tickets until I get a response from the venue. I can’t believe I am actually saying that but this just outrageous and it just can’t continue to go down this way.
TOverbyParticipantThanks for bringing this to my attention. I am stunned and reaching out Lucinda’s agent immediately.
TOverbyParticipantNobody urges Lucinda to do anything she doesn’t want to do. I feel like I’m able to speak with some authority on that topic 😯
We were struggling with some sound issues in NZ -our normal front of house digital console was not able to be used in NZ due to some electricity conversion issues. We also had a new monitor person who ended up not being to par and did not work with us again after those shows.
Despite those problems both of the NZ shows were really great with truly terrific audiences. Lucinda just overall really loved NZ. Met some great people. Good memories from that visit.TOverbyParticipantUnfortunately -her record company did not grant the rights to issue these shows digitally.
TOverbyParticipantYes -would definitely agree–very overlooked among his catalog.
TOverbyParticipantI enjoyed reading your insights-thank you for sharing them. I hope you indeed do continue writing here.
TOverbyParticipantAlmost forgot-the Sacramento show is now officially confirmed.
TOverbyParticipantApologies for not adding the venues -just wanted to get the dates up the minute they were confirmed.
Here are the missing venues:
8/17 -Ventura-Ventura Theatre
8/20- Eugene -The Shedd (this will also be billed as A Night With Lucinda. No opener)
8/22- Portland-Roseland Ballroom
8/24- Sacramento–The Crest
8/25- Napa–The UptownAlso -There is 99% chance that these will be the only shows this year, as any future shows will be in support of the new record which we are trying to finish in time for a late Oct. release. More on that soon.
TOverbyParticipantIts hard to say because its very difficult to gauge what the demand would be. I’m not sure if her records have even been available there-but apparently they have. I know that Lu would love to do it if the right opportunity presented itself. She lived for a year in Chile as a child and just in general loves the culture of South America. There was a period of time when not a day would go by that I didn’t hear The Girl From Ipanema in her mix on the cd changer.
But having said that I would say the chances are indeed remote but you never know.TOverbyParticipantIt could happen at some point. Elvis has been wanting to do a record with Lu also. We did invite him to come by the recording sessions for Lu’s new record. We had run into him at John Ciambotti’s memorial and he told Lu he was going to be in town when she was recording and if we needed him for anything to let him know. Once we got in the studio we asked him if he wanted to come down and play some guitar on a couple songs and he did -he cut one track with Lu and the band and overdubbed three others. He had a ball and absolutely rocked the house -it was an amazing night.
TOverbyParticipantGood finds with those quotes–we did discuss this in the studio the other day and Lucinda reminded me that I convinced her it was a mental institution because of the reference to the long white car. If it was suicide it would probably be a long black car -i.e. hearse. But it certainly could be interpreted either way and that was probably the intention.
TOverbyParticipantBy the way – the blue thing on the table is handheld audio recorder that Lu recorded the Kitchen Tapes on. I’m probably just stating the obvious but I just noticed it hadn’t been mentioned in this thread.
TOverbyParticipantGood question as I was a bit of a stereo geek as a kid-which was just a by product me being a music geek-I just always wanted to hear the music sound as good as it possibly could. It’s disappointed me that in the Ipod generation that that has been lost- especially now with technology also making huge advances on the recording side, I think generally speaking recordings now sound tremendously better than they did even 10 years ago. I hadn’t realised how big of a leap had been made until I was listening recently to some records from the mid-late 90’s and was surprised at how small they seemed.
Anyway I guess I should just answer the question. We have two main stereos -one in the house and one up in my office. which is separate from the house. The house stereo consists of an Arcam receiver bi-amped with a power amp called UltrAmp. The speakers are B&W’s – NS-9’s I believe. The cd player is a Pioneer Elite 300 disc changer that i bought about 12 years ago-it was top of the line back then and sound really great for a changer. I should add that this is Lucinda’s favorite piece -as she loves to do her “mixes”– loading a bunch of different things and just letting run all day. She changes it every so often to give it a different flavor. One thing is for sure she does love music. Now if I could just get her to put the cds back in the cases when she changes her mix…. I do have an old 1987 Bang & Olufsen turntable hooked up also but the preamp for it is shot so haven’t been using it.
Up in the office I have a Rotel power amp matched with the preamp from the UltrAmp set, with a Rotel cd player and smaller B&W’s (NS-1’s) and Rega turntable that I bought as a display model, which was a mistake as the top won’t stay up when you want to changes lp’s- you think I would’ve been able to figure that out before I got it home. I guess that was a bad day because I got talked into the two Rotel pieces even though I had never really liked them much because I thought they are too clean sounding. And they are- but it still sounds good. A couple of other footnotes -the UltrAmp set was made only for a short time by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs- they were the first real label that licensed recordings and put them out with super hi-quality sound- a friend of mine worked there and gave me the set- this was probably 15 years and they still sound great. The Arcam and B&W’s were originally part of a surround sound system that I had in my house in Mpls, but when I moved to LA it was a bit of overkill in a small apt., so I just used pieces as a regular stereo. And when we bought the house I just split it into two systems.
See what happens when you ask a former stereo geek about his equipment. -
