The show will be announced on Weds -right there are only 6 shows–4 in Australia, 2 in New Zealand.
4/2 -Melbourne
4/3 -Sydney
4/5 -Byron Bay
4/7 -Byron Bay
4/10 -Auckland NZ
4/11 -Wellington NZTOverbyParticipantIn case anyone is wondering we will of course mix up the set as much as possible tonight -of course some of the chestnuts will remain but overall it will be different than last night.
TOverbyParticipantI would say at this point it is extremely unlikely. Basically what is happening is that Lucinda’s current recording contract with Lost Highway expires 11/21 so everything recorded before that date is owned by LH. We are certainly not ruling out re-upping with LH but there will be many options and a lot of things to take under consideration. If we did re-up with LH then the chances would increase a little that something might appear.
TOverbyParticipantSorry to be the bearer of bad news but while the shows will be recorded, as are all the shows–there are no plans to release them as another Fillmore live album, and let’s just say that there are contractual reasons why it would be extremely unlikely that it would ever happen.
TOverbyParticipantTT–Thanks for posting this-I think between the show last night and this piece, it inspired some real babbling from me over in the other thread. I just wanted to add that his supposition that she chose this particular Hank song because it was a very unusual “happy” song -at least for Hank, was dead on. She got the letter in the mail with all the song choices-and it was first come first serve and she chose that one right away. In the next day or so she sat down and worked out the melody etc. -I think it took her a whole two hours. She recorded it a couple months later around the time of the West sessions with Doug, Jim Keltner and Tony Garnier but that didn’t quite work so she came back the next day and recorded it solo and killed it. Again it took a couple of hours and that was it.
It then sat in the can for the next 5 years.TOverbyParticipantI should probably add a little background here. The Woody Guthrie song was Lu solo and the first time she ever played that was song was yesterday afternoon at soundcheck and after trying it a couple of times with the band we just told to do it solo— she didn’t even need to get all the way thru it before she went “Ok, I got it, what’s next?” Excuse me for a second if I’m being a little effusive -and I normally try to refrain from that in here because my bias goes without saying-but on a rare occasion I can’t resist. I also just read the Slate piece that TT just posted about her version of the Hank W. song. Anyway, it never ceases to amaze me what she does with those old blues, country and folk songs -it is almost spooky–no it is spooky -it’s hard to describe but it’s as if the songs-or the voices of the songs–live in her flesh and bone and she can call them up anytime she wants–almost at moment’s notice. Where so many who sing those songs these days come off as mannered, practiced and academic-it’s just hard not to, she has a way with those songs that is just the opposite. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–it’s beyond talent and ability or whatever you want to call it–she channels those songs. Like I said, spooky.
Ok-I’m done.
I did videotape the encore and some other songs from last night but haven’t had a chance to upload it and watch it to see how it came out. I also taped most of yesterday’s soundcheck -and some other recent soundchecks. I think I have some good stuff. Hope to get some of it up asap.TOverbyParticipantShe also added in Marvin Gaye’s Inner City Blues after Salt of The Earth -it was not on the original setlist.
TOverbyParticipantYes– it is the Marvin Gaye -she was really excited about doing it. Eugene loved it.
TOverbyParticipantTo answer Stoger’s question –yes the Paramount was just a couple blocks from the Occupy sight which got very testy on Sat. Some of our people wandered over to and were pretty blown away by the crazy stuff they saw.
TOverbyParticipantHere is the set from GJ -another great crowd. Ventura was not on the original set list but after a woman had been yelling for it after every song, Lucinda added it in after WWT–when it was over the woman then yelled out “Thank you”. Funny moment.

TOverbyParticipantThere have been some special things being worked on at soundcheck yesterday for the Occupy set in SF that almost made the set -Bruce’s Factory was sounding so good we had to put it in next to Everything Has Changed -I thought they were a great juxtaposition of songs lyrically.
By the way -not to be too picky, but here is the correct order with a couple songs that were missing from the above setlist:

TOverbyParticipantYes it is -somehow we didn’t notice her and apparently neither did Lu.
TOverbyParticipantWe had 2 different styles available at the shows but apparently we have run out of them. We will hopefully print some more up and make them available in the store –once I can get the store problems fixed.
