KeymasterI remember the songs as having a country music, Hank Williams vibe, with a nice Chet Atkins-y guitar by Stuart. Then again, maybe not.

KeymasterThat is another new Lu song Mr. Stoger.

KeymasterLast night’s show was epic. Grumpymama, Ryan, and myself drove in under gloomy skies from our buccolic Ventura County homes and had a tasty Mexican dinner up the street from McCabe’s. There was already a line at 6:45 pm. We joined the line one hour later and for the first time I witnessed the entire Kenneth Brian Band set. Lu hit the stage early. I was expecting some songs would be swapped out from Saturday but we got wholesale changes. Anyone attending these 2 shows alone got to hear a lot of different music. Lu delivered an emotional version of Fancy Funeral and Soldiers Song. I thought the evening was trending toward a lot of sad songs but they got rockin eventually. Stuart really expressed himslf on Out of Touch. At the end of the main set I wondered if maybe we would get one encore at best due to the length of the show. We certainly got our money’s worth, plus more.
The usual L.A. suspects were there; besides my party Paul from Los Angeles was in the house. It was great to meet SeaSamishMike who made the long trip and was in the house.
Tonight we will see what Lu has left in the tank. Mine is almost empty.

KeymasterGreat show by Lu last night. Perfect venue for her in terms of getting into her songs and the words and such with less volume and more atmosphere. Packed house. Very soggy evening. I walked in halfway thru the opening act and took up a position to the left of the stage since there were no seats left. Lu was chatty and in great voice. She recounted that she moved to LA in 1984 and played McCabe’s in 1985, citing it as a career break. The FF was well represented with an encore appearance by the Webmasta and his wife, Paul From Los Angeles, and a rare twin-Lisa attack featuring Grumpymama and the universally renowned and beloved Stellablueee. My companion had never been to a Lu show and was quite happy she had finally done so. I posted the setlist during the finale after the left lens to my reading glasses inexplicably fired out of the frame, hit the carpet, and rolled into a dark and dusty corner of the venue, not to be found until after the show ended and I could use a flashlight. Note to self: lasik surgery.
Anyway I woke up this morning to a steady downpour of rain. Something new!

KeymasterI have not heard Mr. Stoger. Due to the limited stage size I would think not.

KeymasterMy friend Matt was at Ladyface before the show!

KeymasterWe had mad, mad fun last night. I was in a party of 4 and we strolled in around 9:15 after a great dinner at a fab restaurant in Westlake Village. It felt like a home game for me since the CC is less than 20 minutes from my humble home. Bill, if you want to sit at a table you have to order and try to digest dinner. I was happy to stand. Lu was her usual great self. Sorry I missed Seeing Black from the other night. Stuart Mathis was amazing on the geetar. He took great care to perform the songs as intended and did all sorts of groovy little fills and doodads here and there. He killed. I don’t know what the problem was with Those 3 Days but it started off wrong and headed downhill promptly. I was glad to see she gave it another shot later. I did forget to mention Gia Ciambotti sang throughout the show.
When Doug joined for the last 3 songs a very, very good show became a great show. Doug wailed like crazy and he and Stuart are very good together. If they played together every night it would be beyond mega awesome.
The Canyon Club was filled with familiar faces. It was a great and rare treat to see our quiet leader, Ralph the Webmasta in the house, along with his wife Jennifer. My super talented friend and musician Matt Szlachetka was there with his friend Craig. Paul From Los Angeles was ever present. Grumpmama was in fine form. FF friend Cindy made the scene.
It was great to see Tom, Lu, David, Butch, and Stuart, and Gia. It was great to see other people, whoever they are. It was not great to get to bed at 2 am and come to work for 7 am. I thought I wasn’t going to do that anymore. I look forward to the final 3 shows.
