Here ya go Mr. Stoger Our imbedded reporter has checked in:

“Live debut of Big Mess. We were afraid that this set rocked too much for the sit down theatre but all the responses we got back were very very positive.
Of course Lu had to comment about the previous days election at the end of the show —“Love and Peace, Don’t let the GOP get you down”.
    On to Lawrence.”

Outstanding report. Reminds me of about 10 Lu shows I have been to. 😉

4 songs from the new album, if I counted correctly, which is usually a challenge.

It was a splendid evening of talk and music at the Grammy Museum in beautiful downtown L.A. There is a 200 seat theater inside the museum where they hold these functions,; this one is part of a series called “The Drop” when artists come in to plug their new record. Lu was interviewed onstage for about 45 minutes about her early life, her parents, her musical upbringing and influences, and a lot about the new record. Mercifully there were no questions about Gurf Morlix. Lu was in rare form; relaxed and enjoying the interview in a very entertaining way. She cuold have her own talk show I think. She described her songwriting process and how she feels she is at her most prolific at 61, unlike pop stars who enjoy early success and fizzle out.

She opened with Compassion and then Doug joined her for the rest of the show on electric guitar. No CD signing after.

The website was out in force with myself, Grumpymama, and Paul From Los Angeles, and Tom. Fun was had. I broke my rule about going out on a weeknight for the 100th time and did not spring out of bed full of vim and vigor at 5:30 am after getting home at 11 pm. Who said “it’s better to burn out than it is to rust”?

Great to see a large local cast of characters out to see Lu on her home court: Lu and Tom’s friends Peggy and Robert, Doug and his son Ryan, and Doug’s friend Rob who did the artwork for his new CD “Gone”.

Lu is still being interviewed after about 45 minutes. I never realized how hysterically funny she is. She is a very amusing storyteller. The audience is now asking questions.

Greetings out there in Lu land. The Grammy Museum show is tonight. Doors at 7:30. If this follows the usual format, there will be an on-stage interview with someone from the museum, followed by a performance of 4 or 5 songs. This should be pretty great. 😀

Truly great interview in the Rolling Stone. The discussion of her drawl is priceless. The details of her rift with Gurf were also interesting, and sad.
