KeymasterFrom Tom:
Night one at cozy McCabes -always a different intimate show than anywhere else. Lu plays One More Day solo which is the first time that song has been played live. I think she’ll be doing that again. Eery song on the new record has now been played live at least once.
3 tour song debuts puts the running total for this tour at 73.

KeymasterFrom Tom:
Lu still very sore now feeling it in every spot she hit -ribcage, knee, head, elbow. On a tour where we’ve had several really excellent shows this was another that was very special. Given everyone feeling great about the first night and an amazing packed house the electricity in the air was very palpable. Knowing that she had survived a real scare the night before Lu was raring to go, and she was in especially great voice. There were special moments throughout this show, including I Look At The World, one of the best ever versions of West, the way she held the notes out was just beautiful. Also great versions of Seeing Black and Little Rock Star.
For a lot of reasons I would describe this night as triumphant. A fantastic tour debut of Pale Blue Eyes I believe puts the total song count for this leg at 70.

A very big sigh of relief. In all the years of being the night before the first Fillmore show was hands down the scariest ever. At about 430 AM the fire alarm on our floor (the 15th) went off. Lucinda was sleeping and actually didn’t even wake up at first. After going out into the hallway to see what was going on and trying to call the from desk to now avail and after seeing people fleeing down the stairs I finally decided I had to wake her up. We proceeded to to make the stairs down as fast as we could until we got to the 5th floor -just as I turned to say something to her she slipped and went head first down the final half flight of stairs. A moment of true terror as I saw her eyes waver slightly. She stayed down for a couple minutes and then said “I think I’m ok” she very carefully got up and we went back up to the room as the alarm had now stopped and other people were heading back up. Lucinda was really hurting but again said she was ok and just wanted togo get back in bed. The next morning she said she felt like she had been in a car accident. She had some bad pain in her left ribcage -especially when she took a deep breath. She was worried about singing that night. After sleeping most of the day she was ready to give it a shot.
Once the adrenalin kicked in she was fine and the momentum of the show and great Fillmore crowd just carried her through. A very memorable night.
Oh yeah the official story from the hotel was that a homeless person set off the alarm. I don’t really understand why a homeless person would go up 15 floors and then set off an alarm—and also how did he get past the security guard- so I’m not sure I buy the story but at this point I guess it doesn’t really matter.
Damn she is tough.tonyg

GREAT ROCKIN’ SATURDAY -FIRST TIME PLAYING THE REGENT AND EVERYONE HAD THUMBS UP -LU LOVED THE SOUND ON STAGE. SELIST DIDN’T GO THRU FROM HOTEL SO IT HAD TO BE SENT VIA TEXT IN THE CAR ON THE WAY TO THE VENUE SO IT MADE IT. FINALLY GAVE LU THE CHANCE TO END THE REGULAR SET WITH GET RIGHT INSTEAD OF HONEY BEE -AND OF COURSE SHE STILL CHOSE HONEY BEE. WHATTA YA GONNA DO?tonyg
KeymasterI think Stuart attemped his harmonica part for one note before deciding he came in at the wrong time, due to confusion after the missed lyric. That’s my take from the peanut gallery anyway.

KeymasterAnother great show. One of the longest Lu shows in memory. It seemed like she did not want to stop playing. It was a cold rainy night. Big boisterous crowd. The Regent is your typical repurposed movie theater from a forgotten time. I met my party for dinner out in the suburbs and we dined in total darkness as the power went out at the restaurant. After cocktails at the bar next door the venue, I walked into an already crowded theater about 9:45 and whatever little temporary seating there was was already long gone. I took up residence in the so called balcony next to the bar which afforded a full view of the stage, but unfortunately the bar area was quite noisy as patrons shouted there orders at the bartenders.
Like the previous shows, the first half was mostly ballads, after the openers, and I was treated to a now rare appearance by Are You Alright. Over Time was a nice touch as well. The second half was the same rockers we have been hearing and Lu rocked out extensively. Foolishness featured an even more extended rant that also featured a naughty word for the first time. Fun. The first encore was a Robert Johnson song with only Stuart accompanying. It was a good night.
The FF was well represented by myself, Paul from Los Angeles, Grumpymama, Stellablueee, Stoger, Lafayette, and Webmasta himself. Peggy French snapped numerous photos. If you do not follow her page on Facebook you should so you can see her pictures. My visiting nephew from Pullman Washington took in his second ever Lu show.
I got to bed at 3:30 so I got that going for me as it is presently 6.5 hours after that fact.
