From Tom:
Was almost caught up with these -and now have fallen behind again. If anyone ever wondered whether a crowd can really lift up an artist they only had to be at the Hyannis Melody Tent. Sometimes hitting mid-tour is the “getting over the hump” part of the tour and we were feeling a little of that. Then Lu walked out to one of the most thunderous opening applause we’ve heard in a long time and it was like the crowd just lifted her and pulled her right over the hump. We all saw the big “wow” look on Lu’s face and the energy was electric. The audience literally created the show and it was a great one. If we hadn’t had a curfew Lu might have gone on for another hour.
And yes the “in the round” stage does actually spin but we decided against it—the idea of Lu spinning in a big circle while singing was one none of us wanted to imagine.
tonygKeymasterTim said he looked for you, Mr. S. Too bad you did not connect.
tonygKeymasterFamed website person Tim was also in the house and just gave me a rave review of the show!
tonygKeymasterSounds like a winner Stoger. Great report.
tonygKeymasterGreat report Mr. S. Too bad about the drinks.
tonygKeymasterHere ya go Stoger. From Tom:
Not sure what’s in the water in Englewood NJ but I want some of whatever it is. The list of luminaries is very impressive, ranging from Dizzy Gilllespie, Tony Bennett, Wilson Pickett, The Isley Brothers and many others on the music siide. Let’s also toss in Eddie Murphy, John Travolta and Brooke Shields and many many others. Must’ve been an interesting place to walk around the streets several years ago.
On the Lu front thicks just continue to click on all cylinders. We had a birthday wish from a husband to his wife who was celebrating her 60th birthday. He had said that One More Day was her favorite song but we had never done the song with the band live before, but Lu said “we can do it” and they did—it sounded like it had been played many times -we have to do that one more often. Every night we say that about so many songs. Another example of that was this was the first time on this leg for Bus To Baton Rouge and it was spellbinding -as it usually is. Another great crowd and beautiful sounding old theater. We’re getting spoiled.
tonygKeymasterMaybe you have discovered the code, Mr. S.!
tonygKeymasterGreat reports!

You never know sometimes what kind of night you’ll have on Sundays, sometimes things can be a bit sedate with Sunday night shows, but that was definitely not the case at the Madison-as the crowd was great from the get go. We had 5 songs make their debut (marked in blue below) on this leg of the tour as want to keep mixing things up. There were several highlights but everyone in the band thought it was a killer version of Those 3 Days. It was good to have the funky Southen soul version of Hot Blood back in the set and Come On definitely rocked. Thanks Covington/Cincy we’ll see you next time -we gotta head east.
tonygKeymasterFrom Tom:In the past few years there have been some sweltering hot shows -the ones that come to mind are Omaha in 2007, Atlanta Botanical Gardens 2008 and Rochester NY in 2007 when we had to move a free outdoor show into the Rochester armory with no AC etc. and Charlie Louvin was opening and we were very nervous about him collapsing in the heat (didn’t happen thank god). Saturday night in Bloomington was right up there with the heat factor, but somehow it made a lot of energy in the air the minute Lu hit the stage—I guess the heat made everyone, including Lu, just deliriously let go as this was a smoking show. One of the members of the band said he thought this was Top 5— there’s been a lot of good ones recently that come to mind Detroit and Cleveland last year to name two, and this one was right up there. Some nights just happen like that -Lu just felt the energy in the crowd from note one and it just went up from there. Lots of good between song banter in this one —great versions of West Memphis, 2 Kool and a great jam on Are You Down. The only thing left to say is Thank You Bloomington we’ll remember this one and we’ll be back.
tonygKeymasterFrom Tom:Another hot and steamy night in KC, but at least it wasn’t the torrential downpour like it was the last time here. Lu had family in the house and her niece requested Real Love, which that band hadn’t played for probably 5 years, so Lu decided to take a shot at it solo. And it turned into a very special moment with the crowd singing along. We were all completely blown away by that. That describes how enthusiastic the audience that was there was, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t disappointed by the tour turnout after not playing KC for 4 years. KC has always been solid. Maybe someone could shed some light —is it that venue etc. Would love to hear some local perspective. Lu and the band are really on a roll —these are some of the best Lucinda shows ever and we just want people to see them. Ok -down off the soapbox.
2 more live debuts brings the YTD total to 86
tonygKeymasterGreat review Stoger!
tonygKeymasterFrom Tom:
Well I think we’re getting the flow of being back on the road. It was an especially talkative Lu -as she said during the show that means she’s feeling very comfortable and that was certainly the case in Iowa City as she had completely improvised introductions to several songs. We added Rock Island Line because Iowa City was apparently one of the first places that got a locomotive that ran on the RIL in 1855. Lu wanted to mention that as part of the reason the Lead Belly classic was in the setlist—she had also just performed a few weeks ago at the Lead Belly tribute show in Washing ton DC. Of course she forgot to mention that historical connection. Oh well can’t get ‘em all. And we can’t fail to mention a big thank you to Iowa City -this was third straight time that Lu has sold out the Englert. We will definitely be back.
tonygKeymasterGreat report!
tonygKeymasterFrom Tom:
First it was rain, then hail and tornado warnings and tonight it was bugs. Early June night in Minny brought all the flying insect categories —although it didn’t seem like the skeeters had hatched yet. Nevertheless another packed house in Minneapolis and Lu and the band were very on and very happy with the show. Some great tour debuts with Lu doing a beautiful solo version Lead Belly’s In The Pines. It also the first try at that Bruce guy’s The Rising. That one is going to get better and better.
I think that makes 83 songs YTD ?
