We have had about as good of a start to this tour as you can have, great shows and great audiences. But sometimes when you least expect it something really magical happens. First thereās a bit of a back story. Lucinda hadnāt played Columbus for 9 or 10 years and the last time she was there it was a very light turnout, so we had just thought it was a place that we couldnāt take a chance on so it just sort of got overlooked when we routed tours. When we got around to booking this current tour we needed a show in between Bloomington and Atlanta and Columbus came as in āmaybe itās time to try it again -we havenāt been there in a long timeā. It then turned out that the venue that was available was the re-opened Valley Dale Ballroom, and because of that little was known about it. But we decided to give it a shot. Good choice on our part. The Lu walked out she got an absolutely amazing response before she had played a note. You could say that set the tone fort a very special eveningāsomeone used the word triumphant and it really felt like that. The Valley Dale really has a great vibe and it sounds like itās going to get more upgrades in the near future.
There you have it for those wondering what took so long -thatās the story. We will be back soon. Thank you for a very special night.tonygKeymasterFrom Tom:
This past was definitely family week -and Luās sister was in the house in Bloomington and she wanted to hear Crescent City and Big Red Sun Blues, which hadnāt been played in a long time. I think Lu was actually a little nervous going into Crescent City and had a little brain spasm. She later opened the encore with a really great version of itāshe was determined to make good on that. I received several messages about this show and on of the bestsellers from a well respected writer who sent this:
I’m compelled to write after last night’s extraordinary show in Bloomington. Last night was so inspiring to me. Ā Lucinda’s voice has never sounded better in the 10-12 times I’ve heard her live since 1993. Ā The acoustic songs were sublime. Ā I feel like my idea of Lucinda’s music was impacted by last night’s show in some permanent way. Ā I’m not sure I can articulate it any more than that at the moment.
There were several other just like that.
Oh yeah, Bloomington rocks. Every time.
tonygKeymasterš It’s all worth it now.
