After the Cologne show we drove to Amsterdam and the flew to Helsinki, played Helsinki and then flew back to Amsterdam for the show there. We had been looking at the tour schedule for the last few weeks thinking how great it was to have a night off in Amsterdam. In theory yes. In -reality, after all the traveling, not really. We made it as far as the the hotel restaurant bar -and then not even in time for the full menu. But whose complaining, it is still Amsterdam and it is the legendary Paradiso Club, and it was very close to sold out again so everything could’ve been much worse. Actually it was a very difficult start to the show regarding some sound issues. Lucinda wears in-ear monitors that allow her to hear not only the band but also the audience thru what are called ambient mikes. Right off the top the left side ambient mike blew out and it was causing some painful noise in her left ear. She call is “the pencil in the ear” noise. It took about 5 songs before our her in-ear monitor person figured out what it was and got it corrected but up until that point it was a struggle-and was the reason she didn’t say much for the first half of the show. Lu felt very bad after the show -she thought the problems had ruined part of the show -(she was still worrieded about it the next day). Some night are magic and everything lines up but other nights things happen that are out of your control -but Lu always fights thru and the typically great Paradiso audience stayed right with her, she said later she really felt a lift after Steal Your Love and for the rest of the show. On a night like this that makes all the difference in the world.tonygKeymasterI’m highly trained in a number of areas, including this one. It’s Ham, not Hahm. Hahm is what happens when you are in danger.
tonygKeymasterThanks for not mentioning I misspelled Hamburg. I must have been hungry when I wrote it.
Corrected. 😆
tonygKeymasterThanks for the great report!

We hadn’t been to Koln/Cologne for nearly ten years and the last time there was very memorable and nearly a disaster. A film crew had shown up to film for a well known European music show whose name I can’t recall and there were crossed communications so things were a little stressed. I remember a boom crane taking up part of the floor and being very intrusive on both the audience and Lucinda. It was also mid-November and we had been in Northern Europe and it was very dark both literally and figuratively as two of the people on our crew had friends commit suicide in the previous week. Very dark time. But we got to Cologne and opened the curtain the hotel and saw the first sunlight in two weeks. This time things went much better. It was a pretty rocking’ setlist and the crowd were right with Lu and the band Highlights include a rollicking Bitter Memory and a smoking version of Doors Of Heaven, which was played with some extra emotion as Lucinda had received news that a good friend of hers who had been very brave in her struggle against cancer had lost the fight. Margarets two favorite songs were Pineola and Lake Charles which Lu tearfully dedicated to her. RIP Margaret Moser.

Have to admit that when got to the venue there was a bit of stress. It started when we asked where the PA was and the answer was “it’s over in the shed”.The shed ? Right.
Lu’s crew performed some miracles and all was better. And of course it all turned into another amazing night. The standing ovation Lu got after her new song “We Have Come Too Far To Around” was one the greatest single moments in a Lu show ever. Big time goosebumps, for lack of a better way to put it. The Payomet Performing Arts Center is definitely a unique experience. Obviously people love to see shows and last night the vibe was just beautiful.

Well what I was saying about beach club rock n places after Dewey Beach certainly stayed very much true to form. Both coasts have several of these old ballrooms from the 40’s & 50’s that are just really cool to play. The Hamton Beach Casino reminded all of us of the one we played in Santa Cruz in January. The history contained in between the walls just brings something out of everybody. This was another transendant night and the last of the US leg of this run. Lu was exhausted but the crowd just took her over from the very beginning. Amazing night with many highlights -some were saying it was the best version of Ventura in a long time. And when we finished the night with Rockin’ In The Free World I think the room came off. What a fantastic and fulfilling run on so many levels. On to Europe. The next day we got a message from a guy who said Lucinda’s show was the first show he had seen in that room since Janis Joplin in 1969- and the he added that Lu was every bit as good. Nice.

Great backstory behind the the Columbus theater. A couple years ago local band Low Anthem needed a place to rehearse, record and eventually live so they moved into the Columbus Theater which was not in use. They eventually worked with the owner and gradually started booking shows and brought it back to life. It has now become the venue to play in Providence. Its a great success story and a really great old theater that is really being supported by the community. Lucinda hadn’t been to Providence in many years so it was yet another city that was rediscovered on this run. It’s always great to find these new places to play and that has really been thread that connects this run-we all really liked Providence. Nothing else to say except the requisite great great crowd great night. Oh I guess I should mention that I wasn’t able to take any pictures because we did Facebook live broadcast of the show. -
