KeymasterI wasn’t there. I’m sure it’s the tatoo people.

KeymasterAnything cooking on the El Rey Theater front? ❓
tonyg
KeymasterMaybe your download was interrupted when you got the record the first time?

KeymasterThx for the heads up Lefty.

KeymasterI wouldn’t fear the forum, but you should always be careful, wherever you are. 😉

KeymasterStoger, if the tour ends at the El Rey will you come here instead of San Fran? I know a good place to eat near the theater. Tim is going to come out.

KeymasterGood point Lafayette. I will add that he was a plumber and he was using a jackhammer. 🙄

KeymasterI have a talent for finding the worse possible place Lefty. It may have well been Syracuse.

KeymasterTremendous evening with John Doe at the Grammy Museum last night. The evening started off at 8 pm with a 30 minute question and answer with just John and producer Joe Henry on the stage. They talked for about 25 minutes, then 5 minutes of audience questions. John is a very amusing and personable guy so this was entertaining.
At 8:30 the band came out and they played the entire new CD, called Keeper. Doug Pettibone on electric guitar and lap slide, D.J. Bonebrake on drums, Ryan Feves on upright and electric bass, a keyboard player whos name escapes me, and Cindy Wasserman and Jill Sobule alternating on vocals. The auditorium seated 200 in a plush setting. The sound was good and loud. Great record. After the show I waited in the world’s longest line to buy the CD and have John sign it. He chatted with every single person who was there and was still very pleasant and patient by the time I got to him. I am impressed by this.
I saw from the CD when I got home that Val McCallum plays on several songs, as does Greg Leisz.
Before the show I got something to eat at an Italian place across the street. All I wanted to do was watch some of the baseball game and have a drink. Broken TV, no booze for some unexplained reason although there was a bar there, and some guy started jackhammering in the rest room just as I started eating and it never stopped.
It was great to see Doug and his girlfriend Liz. He looked great and played a mean guitar. He is the world’s busiest session guitarist, in addition to being in Marianne Faithfull’s band. I was also pleased to see famed website member Paul from Los Angeles, who made the scene as expected. I knew Paul would not miss an appearance by Cindy Wasserman.
I love getting 5 hours sleep on a worknight.

KeymasterHilarious. I did think he was talking about beer. And to further illustrate the fog I was in, I have seen John Doe perform Twin Brother before, at McCabes. Great song.
Plus I don’t think they serve booze at this place anyway but we shall see.

KeymasterThx for the link LWj. Great video.

KeymasterI have since learned that there is a performance space called the Clive Davis Theater. 200 seats. Looks ultra awsome in the pictures. If that’s where the show is it will be awesome.
Apparently its a release party for his latest CD, Keeper, that has many cool people on it like Cindy Wasserman and Jill Sobule. It would be great if they were there.
