I made it home alive. It was a great show in a great setting. We ate at this place up the road from the library that overlooked the ocean. Tasty food and expensive wine. We went to the library and were seated at the back at a table overlooking the entire scene. Great view of the stage set on a lawn in the woods with cool lighting and lots of woodsy types in chairs and on blankets. Lucy Wainright opened at 7:15 and played a short whimsical set. Lu and Doug hit the stage at 8:25 and right away we got a winner with Side of The Road. Lu and Doug stood all night, facing each other. Doug wailed away while Lu rocked back and forth playing her guitar with enthusiasm. In duo form, you can really hear Lu’s guitar playing which is underrated in my opinion. Everyone was in great spirits: the terrific library volunteers, the crowd, and Lu and Doug and the crew. The music was super and the vibe was great. The library staff were pumped up about the show.

The 2 new songs were ballads, never before played if I remember correctly. I would have to hear them a few more times before describing them fully. Other than the problems with Crescent City, which just did not want to be played, the night was perfect. The show ended at 10:15.

The combination of great music, excellent setting, and great vibe puts this in my top ten list of shows.

It was great to see GrumpyMama, Etienne, Paul from Los Angeles, Doug, Tom, Lu, and Eric. Stoger, more than one person asked me where you were. Prepare to explain.

I should mention a funny scene at the end of the night. When Lu was walking through the almost empty lawn to go back to her bus and head out, the remaining stragglers, most of whom were the library staff and volunteers, we saying good night to her, as was the owners dog. Lu got very excited, waved to everyone and yelled thanks, threw her arms up the air, and blew everyone kisses. She was having fun.

Great report. I am getting psyched up about my first trip to Big Sur and seeing Lu and Doug as a duo.

In no way am I worried about driving 6 hours up the coast with a toothache and abcess from my root canal and taking mega pills on an hourly basis. Let’s just get that settled right now. Not worried. At all.

    🙄

P.S. And a complete lack of sleep all week. No worries.

I saw Lisa Marie Presley at the Roxy on the sunset strip last night. She played about 75 minutes in front of a big crowd of very enthusiastic supporters. I saw Priscilla Presley sitting in the VIP seats. She did not seem to notice me.

I can’t say I’m a huge LMP fan. In fact I sincerely doubt I will see her again but her band was good and Doug was awesome as always. Doug played electric guitar on one song, acoustic on another, and the rest of the time was on pedal steel or mandolin. He played a killer pedal steel on the title song of her new album. Her husband Michael Lockwood was the primary guitarist.

Lisa sings in a very low voice and doesn’t really belt it out so the band kind of overpowered her but it seemed to me that’s how she wanted it. I spent all evening in the throes of a massive toothache from a root canal and I was flying on pain meds, antibiotics, and wine. Always a treat.

Onward and upward to Big Sur on Friday!

We had a discussion about “beautiful people” in another thread, Jack. Stoger is borrowing from that.

My attitude, on the other hand, is completely different problem. 😉

The review indicates she did a song called Turn Around and Look at Me or something like that. I don’t believe Blake was involved.

That’s Jeannie Town. It certainly looks like I did something irksome. The beginning of a long career in irking people.
