Now that Blessed has been officially out for over a couple of weeks now, and we have a separate thread for links to reviews, I am “un-sticky-ing” this thread…
Tom
tntracyParticipantNice move, Tom O.!
Tom
tntracyParticipantNot that I’m aware of (and I’ve come up with a list of Lu’s guest appearances, etc. that, although not necessarily exhaustive, it is fairly complete).
It’s not a collaboration per se, but she did record a version of Greg’s song “Lately” on the tribute album, Going Driftless – An Artist’s Tribute To Greg Brown. It is the lead track on the album…
Tom
tntracyParticipantThe show isn’t listed at KnoxvilleTicket’s Web site yet, but here is the link to their page for Bijou Theater events…

After the show, we met Bill Rouda, the photographer behind the book of the revitalization of Lower Broadway in Nashville, where Lu is the premise of the book and the subject of several photos. Lu also wrote the foreword.
Copies of this book available on Amazon:

And, I saw Lafayette’s copy of this book & read Lu’s forward while I was staying at Lafayette’s home a couple of weeks ago in Cincinnati.
As LWJetta likes to say, “connecting the dots…connecting the dots…”

Gotta tell this..
This morning in Kingsport, driving my Mom to the grocery store, she decided to stop at Mac’s Medical for a prescription. As we were leaving, I glanced up to see Stoger behind the counter! I was dumbfounded and for just a moment, I was speechless. I stared a moment and said “Roger?” He stared a moment and said “Randy?” What an unbelievable coincidence! We rehashed the Asheville show a while and traded a story or two.
Still hard to believe this million-to-one chance meeting. The Lu family ties will pop up at the most unexpected times.Randy
Now Railroad, I know you are from Birmingham – what were you doing in Kingsport, TN (as if it’s any of my business)? Visiting your Mom, I presume? Is that where you are from? If so, you & stoger are “homies”! 😆
Tom
EDIT: N’mind, Railroad – just saw in your post where you said y’all were in Kingsport “to see famiy”… “Reading (comprehension) is fundamental”… 😳

Lafayette, you and Tom each got a free beer!
Yeah, but unfortunately, I quit drinking two months ago. That’s what made it even more aggravating. I don’t mind smelling like a brewery when I am drunk, but hate it when I haven’t gotten to enjoy the “source of the stink” (so to speak)… 👿
Tom
tntracyParticipantOne added note or two to Lafayette’s retelling of the “drunk big chick bumpin’ & grindin'” story. They (there were three of them, but the one pouring the beer was by far the most obnoxious) not only literally wedged themselves in front of Lafayette & me (& behind Sandy’s friends who had been directly in front of us on the rail), they not only insisted on dancing in those close quarters (poorly, I might add) once there, but they also were all drinking large cups of beer that they all insisted on holding high aloft (I suppose so Lu could see & appreciate they were drinking beer 🙄 ) as they swayed about. The cups were nearly full (they must have come straight from the bar to position themselves in front of us – so much for their “working all night” to get up front) & I was worried that they were going to slosh beer on us even before the altercations occurred.
When Lafayette objected to the biggest girl bumping into her, she looked over her shoulder at Lafayette, scowled and yelled, “move back!” (you must not have heard her, Lafayette). Now, that’s what sealed it for me. It is one thing to be excited & drunk (been there, done that), another to physically insert yourself near the end of the show in front of people who have been standing up front since 7:00 PM (when doors opened) or shortly thereafter (haven’t been there, done that), but to then be extremely pissy & rude to someone who objects as if you are “entitled” to be there was just too much. That’s when I got angry.
I’ll admit I used some colorful language and hand gestures to the most obnoxious one after I forced my way in front of her & after she poured the beer down my back. But, I resisted the urge to smack her (trust me, it was difficult), and ignored her the rest of the show. I felt bad afterwards (only because I hate confrontations, especially when I am trying to have a good time), but felt better when some strangers standing near us thanked me for saying & doing what they were all feeling at the time.
Despite this incident, I had a great time & enjoyed the show immensely. And oh yeah – stoger – the reason “Honey Bee” was the only song I didn’t remember & therefore left off of my cobbled-together set list above? Lu & the boys were playing it while this altercation occurred. Anger clouds the memory… ;o)
Tom
tntracyParticipantGlad to hear you made it home safely, West Words. Lafayette & I were starting to worry a little bit when we hadn’t heard from you by late last night. You can ignore my text message… 😉
Tom
P.S. Rainydayman, that’s a better excuse for not taking notes than I have – I was just being lazy… 😳
tntracyParticipantI haven’t seen the article in the physical magazine, but it looks like they have posted the entire article online now…

tntracyParticipantBlessed review from The Austin Chronicle headlined, “SXSW Records – Friday”…
Tom
tntracyParticipantFirst of all, welcome to the Lu forum, elbee.
I’m Tom (tntracy), the moderator here in the forum, and I was at the show at the Orange Peel last night (I live in Atlanta – I drove up to Asheville yesterday for the show, then drove back home today). I am sorry you were disappointed after the show in not meeting Lu & getting your items signed by her. I know whatever I say here will not serve to alleviate that disappointment, but let me attempt to explain the circumstances after the show last night as I heard them directly from Lu’s tour manager. I heard them while several long-time forum members who travel around the country as often as they can to see as many Lu shows as they can & I were inside the venue after the show waiting for a possible “meet and greet” with Lu.
There was a combination of events that greatly restricted Lu’s after-show time & availability. First, they were on an extremely tight schedule, as they had two days to get the tour buses & equipment from Asheville to Austin, TX for the SXSW festival. This is always a big event, but is even bigger for Lu this year as she is headlining Lost Highway’s (her record label) special 10th anniversary show at the festival Friday (tomorrow) night. Although they did have two days to make the drive, since it is an extremely long drive (18+ hours according to Google Maps), they have a mandated layover half-way so the drivers can get their required sleep. So, to meet this schedule, the tour manager told us that there was little time available between the end of the show & the scheduled departure time for the buses.
Furthermore, we were told that Lu was visited after the show by a long-time personal friend whom she had not seen in many, many years. As you can perhaps imagine, Lu wanted to visit with this friend & this visit took up what little time Lu had available while the buses were loaded with equipment. Therefore, the aforementioned forum members who were waiting also did not get to see Lu last night due to the tight schedule & Lu’s friend’s visit.
I can tell you that after the many shows I have been to over the years, more often than not, Lu makes time to meet fans by the buses & sign items for them. However, sometimes tour schedules, visits from old friends and / or family, and other circumstances can prevent her from doing this. Unfortunately, last night was one of those nights. I hope you can understand, and I also hope you get an opportunity in the near future to meet Lu & get your items signed after another show…

Anyone wanting to check out a few photos from the show, feel free to take a peek at JBird Photography. She is a real fan from way back and was so honored to be able to shoot a few…was a memorable experience for everyone!

Nice photos! If she was the lady up front w/ the photo pass who said she was taking some photos for a local newspaper as a freelancer, I talked to her in the “doors” line, as well as up front before the show. Nice lady…
Tom
P.S. Welcome to the Lu forum, youbettie!

I will compliment sir tntracy for nailing 17 out of the 18 main set songs.
Honesty compels me to admit that, after remembering about half that main set purely from memory, I did bring up ITunes to scan the track listings of all of Lu’s studio albums as an aid… 😳
