AH! That makes sense! Thanks for clearing that up — and for the set list, too. I forgot about that Fats Domino cover.
No problem, hyacith_girl – you’re most welcome! And, sorry I did not get to meet you last night, what with you sitting right behind me! 😉

tntracyParticipantAnd, here is an article from last year about the Rev. Pearly Brown being inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. The archive photo accompanying the article is not dated, but judging from the cars in the background, it was taken after the time Lu’s Dad would take her to see him perform on the streets of Macon…

tntracyParticipantHere is a picture of the interior of the Cox Capitol Theatre:
And here is the gig poster for the show last night:
Now, mind you, the tables on the floor last night were packed in quite a bit tighter than those pictured (but not overly so). But we had tons of room at our table back by the soundboard! 😉

Hmmmm. Interesting, I suppose it is complimentary in that Lu is included in a short list that includes The Beatles, Bob Dylan & Wilco? 😉
Rather than considering it a “punishing 9 minutes”, I like “Wrap My Head Around That”. In fact, it came up on my iPod on “Lu shuffle play” on the drive home from Macon last night, and I “endured” the whole song happily. But then again, I AM a cheerleader, ya know… 😉

Any idea what upset her early on, though? Was she talking about the flashes from the camera or the sound?
If you are referring to the times she was talking to the sound tech between songs, that was due to some problem she was having with her in-ear wireless monitor…

She is a human being. If Lucinda’s music teaches us anything, it’s to acknowledge, accept, and even embrace humanity, even if it’s sometimes disappointing.
Very well said, hyacinth_girl…

tntracyParticipantStoger & I are heading to Birmingham this afternoon to see Angela Easterling at Moonlight on the Mountain. Should be a great evening to cap off last night’s wonderful Lu show in Macon, GA!

“He’s God” is actually “God Don’t Never Change.”
Change duly noted here & at setlist.fm… 😉

DisgustedWhat a cool little venue the Cox Capitol Theatre is! At only 350 capacity, it was wonderfully intimate. It reminded me of Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville, OH. Seating downstairs was a wonderful “mishmash” of large tables (some old writing desks, others the long “institutional” folding tables like you see in schools, etc.) with 4, sometimes 6 seats around. To the right (facing the stage) of the soundboard, there were 3 or 4 rows of matching old upholstered armchairs. We were all seated at a large folding table just to the other side of the soundboard from the armchairs. What a wonderful change of pace that was! Lots o’ room to spread out, we could lean on the table, or stretch our legs out, or even stand w/o fear of blocking anyone’s view as we were right in front of a raised area that housed a bar. There was also a decent-sized open area just to our left, in front of a few stairs that lead up to the bar area. This became the “party” area, where all the rowdy, boogying folks congregated. It was a blast!
The stage was smallish, but had enough room for Lu & the boys. And, the acoustics of the room where wonderful. Match that with Lu’s stellar soundboard guy & it made for an excellent-sounding show. Top all this off with very reasonable drink & food prices (Sarah & I had a plate of chicken & sausage jambalaya, field greens salad w/ Vidalia onion dressing & french bread for only $10 each!), and this was maybe the best venue I have ever had the pleasure of visiting.
Lu & the band were in fine spirits, and were smokin’ hot. For those interested in the fashion report, Lu wore jeans with her metal-studded Old Gringo boots, a lovely (and sexy!) black bustier-style top with a denim shirt over it buttoned at the bottom, and a great coiled snake necklace. Lu chatted with the audience quite a bit between songs, talking about her childhood in Macon, how this was the first time since then she has been back, how she was “drawn” to Macon, etc. (I will leave it to my friend West Words to fill in some of the actual dialog here later; she took notes). The hometown crowd lapped up every word.
All in all, a very memorable evening that for me personally ranks up there as one of the better Lu shows I have had the pleasure of attending. I am so very thankful we were able to attend!

tntracyParticipantOh…my…word. What a show.
It is 4:00 AM & we just got home from Macon (2 hour drive). Needless to say, very, very tired – I will post the set list tomorrow. For now I will say that the highlight of the evening for me was Lu & the boys performing a cover of the classic Allman Brothers song, “It’s Not My Cross To Bear” (Lu’s intro: “Here’s something we worked up today”), with Blake playing Dickey Betts’ guitar (given to him by Mr. Betts himself). WOW!! Lu really belted out the vocals! 😉

I was invited to the “secret show” for being a volunteer at the studio. Stevarino, I doubt now I will go to Southgate House. Lefty, I will pass along your regards to Erika.
I sure wish I could join you!
BUT, on another day – I wouldn’t want to miss the Macon show!!! 😉 😆
HAVE FUN! (And, please report back!)

That might be a long wait, PDL – Lu doesn’t play “Mama You Sweet” very often (3 times out of 177 shows)… 😉
