It is / was a nice story, indeed. And, I am happy to report that Lu & her Goddaughter got together after the show in Nashville. 🙂
Tom
tntracyParticipantAnd it was on the set list in Nashville, first song of the encore set. But, it got axed due to time.
Tom
tntracyParticipantYes, this is indeed good news. I just pre-orderd my copy… 8)
Tom
tntracyParticipantThat’s awesome news, but I am confused. Based on all the reviews, this had been released before in 2005? If so, how did I miss it? And, if so, this Nov. 11 release is a re-release?
Also, no mention of the audio options that I saw on a quick glance. Hopefully it’ll have at least Dolby Digital – even better if it has DTS.
Tom
EDIT: OK, now I see after looking more closely at the reviews (and seeing that I myself had reviewed it!!!) – Amazon screwed up. It looks like they copied all the reviews from the 1998 ACL performance that was released on DVD in 2005. Weird.

I’m not going to as many shows as I would wish to because the bus from the UK to all of those fine venues in the USofA is a little over-priced (not to mention slow!)
Soon as she gets her B-hind over here, I will be going plenty!
Yeah, I thought about you fans “across the pond”, and realized this poll kinda excludes you as she obviously doesn’t get over to Europe as often as she tours the States. I suppose, technically speaking, you could vote for the “financial” reason as you can’t / won’t pay for a plane ticket across the Atlantic every time you’d like to see her! 😉

So a question for you veterans…..do the set lists vary by venue or does she have pretty much the same set list for the same tour?
Hope you guys enjoyed Nashvegas!!!!
Dixie DivaShe mixes it up pretty well IMHO (check out the “Set Lists” link from the main page). There will be some songs that she will pretty much always play. For example, she often (but not always) will open a show with the same song for stretches at a time. Right now, she usually opens with “Real Love”. 5 or 6 years ago, she often opened with “Drunken Angel”. Then, for a while, she opened with “Ventura” sometimes. And these days, she is nearly always closing a show out with “It’s a Long Way To The Top”.
In between is where she’ll mix it up more, more so than many artists, but still not enough for some fans. She will almost always play “Joy”. She plays “Out Of Touch” a lot (suits me – one of my favorites). She’s been playing “Honey Bee” a lot.
But, you just never know. She well even often deviate from the set list taped to the stage on any given night. For example, I’ve seen her 15 times or so over the last 6 years, but I have never heard her play “Side of the Road”. I LOVE this song and it’s not that she never plays it, just that I just haven’t seen her when she does. Well, Friday night in Nashville before the show I peeked at the set list taped to the stage by her mike. Woo hoo!!! “Side of the Road” was the first song listed for the encore! But then, she played a song that someone shouted out (“Lonely Girls”) during the first set and ran out of time, so she axed it from the encore. I was a little disappointed, but it’s not like I won’t get other chances. Heck, hopefully I’ll see her 15 more times the next 6 years!
And, yes, we enjoyed “Nashvegas”. It was our 3rd time there to see Lu, plus I have visited on business a few other times. It’s a great town that we love to visit. We walked up and down the Strip after the show & it was wild as always on a Friday night!

Oh, that was me, Steve… 😉 😆
I got Break Up The Concrete Thursday, but I’ve had a chance to listen to it only once (on the way up to Nashville to see Lu, actually). I really liked what I heard, though, & am looking forward to the next listen.

Hey Tom:
Love the idea of a poll. But, how about adding a question or two regarding her new “sound” and “direction” in terms of Little Honey and the emerging rock/blues backplane? Some of the questions/line of questions seems a bit redundent (with all due respect of course!). Really, great idea-the poll!
Hey, no problem. I’m open to constructive criticism. And, while I was walking the dogs after posting the poll, I was also thinking about the questions I chose & concluded they were a little redundant as well.
So, I edited it, and left the one option that had received the only 2 votes so far pretty much as it was (combining the “not at all” with the “not as much” & letting “not as much” suffice for both in all options). The real difference is I added the “new sound” you suggested as an option (although I just said “rock ‘n’ roll'” ’cause I gotta disagree with you on the “blues” part of your suggestion. Lu has always played the blues – heck, look at her first two albums!
I did have to change the order a bit to keep the two votes so far on the second, “financial” option.
So, is this better?

I appreciate your persepctives, Tom. Well said, and yes, I do respect the fact that you are a self-admitted LW can do no wrong cheerleader. Good for you for that bit of self-awareness. Diverse viewpoints are what makes everything worth while…
Absolutely. I am all for listening to (and giving!) diverse viewpoints. I can only speak from my perspective, and I know I had a freakin’ blast Friday night – well worth the 9-hour in 24 hours round-trip drive. And, I’d do the same again given a chance even if I knew ahead of time she was just going to play Little Honey straight through. But that’s me. You come from a different perspective, obviously, and are certainly entitled to it.

Or could it be that, as several have postulated in this forum, that her current sound and set-lists are causing quiet protests that are resulting in low ticket and records sales.
I knew that argument was coming, but I really don’t think that accounts for more than maybe a tiny bit of it. Talk to anyone who works or owns a business in entertainment, dining out, or other markets that depend on folks having disposable income to spend. They are all hurting, like stellablue mentioned above. I think cutting back on spending unnecessary dollars is far and away the major reason, particularly in the secondary markets where Lu plays so many shows. In the big metropolitan areas, you have a so much bigger population base to draw from, and you have more people who have plenty of money.
Besides, look at the set list from this show. Lu and the band played 13 songs out of 20 that aren’t on the new album, including two off of the “Self Titled” album (and a third that got axed from the initial set list due to time constraints combined with her reacting to shouted-out requests from the audience – something many artists just do not do). And personally, I was really wanting to hear two other songs from Little Honey – “Circles And X’s” and “If Wishes Were Horses” – songs that IMHO rank up there with anything she has ever recorded.
So, this “play the old stuff or we’re gonna boycott you” deal is isolated to a few diehards, IMHO. But what do I know. I’m a self-admitted “Lu Can Do No Wrong” cheerleader. I just relish each and every opportunity I get to see her perform, no matter what she plays.

Got to talk to Charlie Louvin last night. He put on a really good show in southern Oklahoma.
Signed my lp and said he had a really good time recording on the record. If anyone hasn’t seen a Charlie Louvin concert, I highly recommend it.
Yes, Mr. Louvin is a true Southern Gentleman. Down to earth as he can be, and very, very nice. I had the pleasure of chatting with him after his set opening for Lu at the Kentucky Theater in Lexington, and before the show when he again opened for Lu at the Alabama Theater in Birmingham.
In Birmingham, he actually sat out on the edge of a planter on the street corner chatting for a long while with several of us (Tim from this forum was there with his Mom &, if I recall correctly, Charlie’s great-nephew was there too). He told us a great old bluegrass musician’s joke on that street corner in Birmingham –
“What’s the difference between a banjo and a pizza?”
“You can feed a family of four with a pizza”.
He is a class act.

I just realized something, Tom. You went at the last minute and still sat in the first row? You are truly living the good life.
Yeah, I am, aren’t I? 😉 But, it was general admission, and Sarah, David & I were 3rd – 5th in line. We headed over to the auditorium from the Sheraton bar about 6:30ish, and the doors didn’t open until 7:00 for an 8:00 show.
The other thing was, and this was really disappointing to me (despite the fact we had such good seats), the place was only about half full for the show. While waiting in line, I chatted w/ one of the ushers and he told me they had sold only about 700 tickets for an auditorium that holds about 1500. I was floored. In Nashville, the week the CD was released, and only that many folks came to see the show. I chatted with Tom O. after the show, and asked him if he thought it was the economic situation. He said that’s all they could figure out – that attendance had been down pretty consistently on the tour. He said they’ve been trying to keep ticket prices as reasonable as possible – and I had to agree that the Nashville show was indeed affordable. I guess everybody is cutting back on non-essential spending.
So everybody, if Lu’s coming to a town near you & you can scrape together the cost, please go & show your support! You’ll get a great show for your hard-earned $$$… 🙂

I don’t believe TN Tracy would mind a bit if I pointed out he was the lone dancer during “Jailhouse Tears,” contributing to Lu eventually inviting everyone up on our feet between “Essence” and “Bleeding Fingers.”
No, stoger, I don’t mind at all. While I know full well I can’t dance a lick, put a couple beers in me & I lose all pride and let loose. 😳 I just got antsy, too, I reckon. I mean, by the time Lu & the band got to “Jailhouse Tears” (one of my very favorites), I turned to Sarah & said, “I can’t stand it – I gotta get up”, half expecting others to join in. There was all that empty space between the front row where Sarah, David & I were sitting & the stage & the stage was high enough, I figured I wouldn’t be blocking anyone’s view. Anyway, after a few moments when i was still out there all by my lonesome it was kinda like, “OK, I’ve jumped into this lake, now I gotta swim” – so I stuck it out (and, I gotta admit, I had fun!). But then, after the song & the ensuing applause began to die down, I heard this young guy sitting on the front row two seats to my right say, “Hey, I can’t see!” Seeing as I was far from starting a trend, I didn’t want to be a butt, so I sat down.
Now, honestly, at that point I started to get bummed a little bit. I mean, I love Lu’s music (obviously), and it makes me want to get up and hoot ‘n’ holler & really get into it. And I know that Lu & the boys get off on that – hell, so would I if I was up there playing & singing my heart out. But the crowd just seemed so subdued – yeah they clapped & even hollered at times, but no one was acting like they were at a concert, IMHO. I mean, they just sat there! So, I just sat there too & listened to the music & tried to mellow out.
Then, after “Essence”, when Lu asked, “Is there something wrong with y’all – you’re just kinda sitting there” (or words to that effect), that was the invitation the crowd needed to party!!! I got up w/ Sarah right behind, following by what seemed like everyone else seated on the floor. Lu & the band kicked into “Real Live Bleeding Fingers…” and it was AWESOME! Everybody ROCKED! I swear, it was like a different show after that. Lu even mentioned several times afterwards that was what she & the band liked. So, in the end, it was an awesome time – Sarah & I were right up on the edge of the stage at Lu’s feet where we wanted to be all along.
Anyway, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it… 😉
Thanks for the set list, tonyg2756. And for your comments, stoger – it was nice seeing you & Paul & David last night. Sarah & I really enjoyed it & are already looking forward to next time!

tntracyParticipantWe just got back to the hotel after seeing the show, then cruising the “strip” here in Nashville & eating some very late dinner.
I started to take notes regarding the set list at the beginning, but I decided early on to screw the notes and just enjoy the show, so, sorry, but someone else will have to post the set list. 😳 We did absolutely enjoy meeting stoger, paul_from_losangeles & DavidK. DavidK, Sarah & I had front row seats and we all saw a great set from both Buick 6 & Lu. A good night was had by all… 😀 I’ll leave it to others to supply the set list details, etc., but suffice it to say that Sarah & I were very, very happy to be here in Nashville tonight.
Tom
(Edit: Had the wrong David – sorry DavidK! 😳 )
