My only complaint is it doesn’t include my favorite track from s/t; Like A Rose!!!

I watched it again last night (immediately followed by the ’98 ACL DVD – interesting contrast), and was blown away again. Yeah, “Like A Rose” would have been really nice, but it is still a must have for any Lu fan, IMHO. 😉

Woo hoo! Someone must have been reading my mind. Pollstar.com just posted that Kathleen is playing at Eddie’s Attic, one of my favorite venues here in Atlanta, March 12, 2009!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Now I just have to hope & pray that Lu doesn’t end up playing in Atlanta the same night! 😕

    Tim (or anyone),

Can you make any sense out of that “various addendem” or “attached schedule” stuff on High Road? I found April dates but no cities!

Ditto. I saw the same, but never saw any “attached schedule” or “addendum”…

I’m a big Kathleen Edwards fan & would love to see her live, but she never seems to come to the Atlanta area… 😥

I just got through watching this DVD and, wow! What a great show. Especially for the money.

Highlights for me included Gurf’s great guitar work, Lu’s acoustic guitar work on the lead-in to “Disgusted” and “Happy Woman Blues”, Lu’s vocals (of course!) and, last but not least, the harmonica work by John “Juke” Logan. The latter was awesome – he really added a lot to several of the songs (“Disgusted” in particular, “Changed The Locks”, “Happy Woman Blues”, etc.) and left me really wanting to see a harmonica player join Lu and Buick 6 on stage for some future shows.

My favorite song on the disc? Why, “Side of the Road” of course!! 😀 😆 I may not have (yet) see Lu perform this live, but this was the next best thing. I was in awe watching it.

Some technical notes – The only audio options on this DVD are PCM stereo and DTS 5.1 surround sound. No Dolby Digital 5.1. So, for those w/o a DTS decoder in their DVD player or receiver, you will be stuck w/ stereo, although, if I was in that group, I’d still want this DVD. But if you can play DTS audio, the mix was very nice – well-balanced and super clear. It sounded wonderful on my surround sound system.

And finally, needless to say, this is THE DVD for all you fans who love Lu’s pre CWOAGR (in fact, pre-SOW) work. The only song on the DVD from after the self-titled release was “Something About What Happens When We Talk”, which Lu introduced as being on “the new album”.

In fact, IMHO, any Lu fan would love to have this DVD.

Just a heads up for those thinking of getting this – Amazon has dropped their price $1.02 to $13.97. Here is a link.

Mine comes today – I’m looking forward to watching it tonight!

    Tom –

Thanks for soliciting our input. It is much appreciated.

My “1-10” ratings to your ideas (my “vote” is in red & bold):

    1) Chronological Setlists9 – I love this idea, but would like to see the ballads & the rockers, the country songs and the blues, etc., all intermingled through the show just like Lu has done through the years (30!!). I like to get up and party, but I need to catch my breath between songs at times. I like the mix & the surprises.

    2) Split Sets by “Genre”3 – I’m not too keen on this idea (although I’d still go!!) for the reasons stated above in #1. A like Lu mixing it up – that’s one of the reasons I love her art.

    3) Two Nights Split by “Genre”4 – again, I like it all jumbled together on any given night, but I gave this one a higher vote than #2 ’cause I’m greedy & would like to see her two (or more) nights in a row. 😉

    4) Album shows at years end10 – You know my thoughts on this if you remember what I said to you in Nashville – I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this, especially if it were close to home!!! Even if it weren’t, I’d probably have to go no matter where it is. That’s what home equity lines are for ( 😈 ), & I kick myself repeatedly for missing the LA shows.

    5) Don’t Change the Shows as They Are Now8 – I think Lu does a pretty good job mixing things up on any given night and, since that’s what I like, I say keep the status quo. Adding the “chronological” twist while keeping the mix of types of songs would be fun – case in point, look at the Webcast thread where several of us were trying to guess what song was coming up next…

    Your other ideas –

    1) Merch Table Credits for TM Fees5 – I like this idea OK, but only if y’all have some XXL or 3XL shirts!! Otherwise, keep the money & buy everyone in the band & on the road crew a steak dinner! 😆

    2) New Fan Club9 – Even after having been one of the ones who paid for the last fan club w/ little to no benefit (I did get a T-shirt that is too small!), I would support a real fan club backed by Lu’s management & having real benefits. And, in case it does happen, I hereby volunteer to be the Atlanta chapter president! 😆 😆 😆

    3) Ticket Pre-Sales10 – Definitely! A good place to start regarding benefits for the potential new fan club members.

    4) More Live Releases10 – Definitely! Another good possible benefit for the as-of-yet-not-formed new fan club. And, I would encourage y’all to make it as easy and inexpensive on yourselves as possible. No need for elaborate post-production, packaging, etc. Just give us the live show as it happened, “warts” and all. Keep it real. BUT, I would prefer a CD option. I like having the flexibility of picking my own bitrate for my iPod – along with the added flexibility that only CDs give of re-ripping & re-encoding later at a higher bitrate when I get an iPod w/ more disc space / memory…

Man, good list, Tom. I can’t think of anything you missed but, if I do later, I’ll post back. Thanks again for asking…

    Any help appreciated.

Go to https://www.lucindawilliams.com/lucinda/php/index.php and it should be at the very top of the screen – a thin “ribbon” audio player on the top 1/4″ inch of screen or so – you need Flash installed.

There was also a great moment during the show when Erika started playing a new song solo on acoustic guitar and only made it through the first verse before saying (paraphrasing) “i’m not going to continue playing until you all shut up”, standing there until everyone was quiet, slyly smiling, and then starting the song over.

I LOVE it! Good for her. That is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. RUDE people talking at concerts. Not only is it rude to the performer, but it is rude to the other audience members around them.

Yes, ditto. I only have one of their earliest CDs (Don’t Fall in Love With Everyone You See from 2002) which I like a lot. But it sounds like there are better albums they released after this one…

Well, I got it this morning – sort of. ❓

Amazon sent me an e-mail with a link to download a free copy of “Bone of Contention”. BUT, when I clicked on the link to go to Amazon’s Web site & download it, I was told I already downloaded it yesterday when I bought the “Lu in ’08” EP. It seems this track is the same live version of “Bone of Contention” as on the EP made available day before yesterday. I was under the impression this free bonus track for Little Honey pre-orders was going to be a studio recording of the song? Did I misunderstand, or has Amazon screwed up?
