I just now turned up a third row center single on TM which I couldn’t possibly release.Nice!
Tom
tntracyParticipantOh, sorry. Local choice? For me, here in the Atlanta area, that would definitely be “Moanin'” Michelle Malone. Always a good show… 😉
Tom
tntracyParticipantThanks for the link, Lefty. I quickly listened to a few snippets from each song and it sounds like Lu sings only on “Oh Lonesome Me” (a duet w/ M. Ward) – is that the only song she is on? I need to add the song(s) to my “Guest Appearances” list & download the one(s) she is on for my collection (I’m not going to buy the CD – no offense to fans of M. Ward, but he’s not my thing).
Tom
tntracyParticipantMatthew Ryan.
I discovered him when collecting all the Lu “Guest Appearances” – she sings a duet with him (“Devastation”) on his album Concussion. I liked that album enough to get another of his, Regret Over the Wires, and I like that CD even better – very good stuff.
Tom
P.S. I got Regret Over the Wires on eBay brand new for $4.99 + $3.00 shipping. The same seller has another one for the same “Buy It Now” price (or, you can try your luck bidding – starting bid is $0.99). If anyone is interested, here is a link.
tntracyParticipantWell said, tonyg. You summed it up nicely. 😉
I don’t know about you, but I think, like stevarino suggested, it is about time to “stop feeding the troll.” I found this interesting & uncannily fitting description of a forum troll on another (unrelated) Web site:
A classic [Internet] troll is trying to make us believe that he is a genuine skeptic with no hidden agenda. He is divisive and argumentative with [a] need-to-be-right attitude, “searching for the truth”, flaming discussion, and sometimes insulting people or provoking people to insult him. [A] Troll is usually an expert in reusing the same words of its opponents and in turning it against them.
Sound familiar? 😆

One of the few songs the reviewer at the top of this thread liked.
And the VERY interesting thing about that is, of all the songs on Little Honey, this reviewer liked “Honey Bee” – a song that other critics have panned for it’s lyrics! (Remember the “Worst Lyrics of 2008” playoff that someone posted here not long ago?)
This just proves my point above. When it comes to music (like most other art), one person’s medicine is another person’s poison. Who is “right”? Who is “wrong”? Neither. Both are entitled to their opinion, and both opinions are equally valid. And neither position should be belittled or dismissed.

In my humble opinion, it is the job of a fan to be open and honest with their discerning ears.
True, but (and this is a big BUT) it is with THEIR “discerning ears” that they need to be honest, not yours, DIM. Just because my “discerning ears” do not agree with your “discerning ears”, does not mean I am not being honest, genuine, realistic or true. And, to be brutally honest, DIM, your apparent inability to understand this concept is why your oft-repeated opinions rub many people here the wrong way. I like “Little Honey” and you do not. That does not make me, OR you, wrong. Nor does it mean that any opinions that differ from yours belong to “cheerleaders” – it just means we have different tastes. There is no “universal yardstick” with which one may measure art.
I say I like “Little Honey” because I do. Period. Not because I am “taking up” for Lucinda, and not because I believe she can do no wrong. I just like it. A lot. And before you say, “but you have admitted to being a LW ‘cheerleader’ before”, that is true, I have. But I did so primarily as a sarcastic response to your incessant criticism of Lucinda’s supposed “new sound”, current set lists, and “Little Honey”.

tntracyParticipantTo help myself in tracking my acquisition of all these “guest appearance” songs listed on Lu’s Wikipedia entry (I now have all but 8 of them!), I converted the text list from the article to an Excel spreadsheet. No big deal, but if anyone else out there in Lu-Land is working on getting them all as well & wants a copy of the spreadsheet, I will be glad to send it to you. Just drop me a PM w/ your e-mail address & what format you’d like – the new *.XLSX XML format from MSOffice 2007/2008, or the older *.XLS format.

tntracyParticipantHappy New Year to you too, Lefty, and to everyone else here on our friendly little forum. I, for one, am really looking forward to next year. We’ll be seeing Lu & Co. in February here in Atlanta (and maybe the night before as well in Birmingham). And, Kathleen Edwards is FINALLY playing here in Atlanta, and at one of our favorite tiny venues, Eddie’s Attic. I have a reserved table right up front… 8)

Good post Tim. Looks like we can look forward to this dead horse being beaten regularly throughout 2009. Yippee.
Indeed. That poor horse’s corpse… 🙄

The Alabama Theatre was a nice show in fall of ’07, but we shouldn’t expect too many upscale bars or lounges for a pre-show libation in the immediate vicinity.
Yup, it was – Sarah & I were there as well. Killed some time on the street corner before the show chewing the fat with Charlie Louvin, Tim (from this forum) & Tim’s Mom. Good times… 😉
If we do end up going, I’ll shot you a PM so we can meet up if you’d like.

Well, I’ve called Ticketmaster a lot worse than “stubborn”–we’ll see. My decision not to drop the big nine bucks for that Tabernacle reserved parking slot is lookin’ pretty good at moment. . . .
So will you work the I-20 corridor and make a [Lu]weekend of it?
Yeah, I’d steer clear of the parking pass. There are a lot of places within walking distance to park – including free on-the-street parking meter (no charge on weekends) if you are lucky enough to find it. Having said that, I *did* pay $20 to park for a show at the Tabernacle once, but we were pushed for time & I didn’t want to shop around. This will be different – we will be there waaaay early to get up front in line & will be able to drive around looking for a bargain.
I’m still considering the “I-20” run, stoger. If I was a betting man (I’m not), I’d say we will indeed be going to Birmingham. After all, it is only a 3 hour drive from our house. If we think we can do it w/o a hotel stay & boarding the dogs for the night, then yes, definitely. But, that involves a 3-hour drive AFTER the show which is hard. So we’ll see.
How about you? Are you “Bama Bound”?

To interested parties: I’m on the floor for Atlanta Tabernacle!
…or maybe the Variety Playhouse. 😉
Pollstar.com just listed Lucinda as playing the Variety Playhouse as does High Road Touring, while Ticketmaster continues to stubbornly sell tickets to a show the same night at the Tabernacle. I have a theory. At approximately 1100 capacity, the Variety Playhouse will be the venue if ticket sales do not exceed that number. On the other hand, if they do, the venue will be the Tabernacle, which holds about 2500. I don’t know how long there would be this flexibility until a commitment to one venue or the other would have to be made, but this is what I think is going on for the time being.

Tom, Well, I can’t speak for paul in los angeles (though I am pretty clear on the issue of whether he is going to Australia), but as for me and my house (of one), we’re Atlanta-bound. Is there a Sheraton bar hard by the Tabernacle so we can reprise our Nashville pre-show? I’m sure there’s an equivalent. Guess the Tabernacle survived that tornado damage after all. Let’s go let’s go
No bar quite as convenient as in Nashville, but there is a Ted’s Montana Grill (restaurant w/ beer & wine) a block or so away, and then, of course, CNN Center 2 blocks away (lots of choices). As we get close to the date, I’ll PM you my cell number so we can meet up if you’d like.
Yes, the Tabernacle survived the tornado yet sustained a lot of broken windows from my understanding. I have not seen it since the storm myself, so I am looking forward to checking it out.
Tom
tntracyParticipantWhichever venue it really is (and it’s certainly looking like the Tabernacle which means High Road Touring’s post is a mistake), I’m going for sure ’cause I just bought tickets.
Thanks again for the heads-up on this one Paul, I probably would have missed it for a few more days at least (not that it would have sold-out that quickly, but you never know). So, are you and / or stoger coming to Atlanta?
