Lu didn’t say a lot between songs, but the speech near the end was well received. You could tell she didn’t want to have to launch into this, but felt passionately about the issue. No merch discounts yet in Atlanta–in fact, merch manager Susannah had a local patsy to staff the booth last night and was able to enjoy the concert herself from the balcony: good for her. So we’ll see in the future. Lu mentioned a $13.50 surcharge (“half the ticket price”) for Tabernacle Atlanta once the tickets flipped over from ticketmaster site to livenation site; we paid 8 or 8.50 if we bought in December, before that flipover.

tntracyParticipantAlso, I urge everyone to do as Bruce Springsteen suggested to his fans on his Web site (per the article linked to above) – CONTACT YOUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES in Washington & ask them to do everything in their power to stop the TicketMaster / Live Nation proposed merger!
If you do not know your Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives or your State’s two U.S. Senators, or how to contact them, go here:
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd
This site will identify these elected officials for your Congressional District & State, AND will provide links to their Web sites where you can submit e-mails to their staffs / offices.
PLEASE be courteous & respectful. I have included below the text from the e-mails I sent to Representative Nathan Deal (Georgia 9th Congressional District) and Georgia Senators Saxby Chambliss & Johnny Isakson as an example. You can cut and paste my message if you’d like (please change the name of the elected official & change my name at the end to yours!!), but I encourage you to instead use your own words:
Dear Senator Chambliss,
As an avid music lover and concert-goer, I am greatly concerned about the proposed merger between TicketMaster and LiveNation. Please allow me to direct your attention to a recent article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution at the following Web address:
http://www.ajc.com/services/content/printedition/2009/02/11/tickets0211.html
As the article states, the proposed merger of these two huge corporations would mean that “(t)he combined Live Nation Entertainment would be deeply entrenched in concert ticketing, venues, promotion and artist management.” Gary Bongiovanni, editor in chief of Pollstar.com, a concert tracking Web site, is quoted in the article as saying, “itβs looking a lot like a vertical monopoly.β
A case in point of the abuses in ticketing “convenience charges” that will occur with the creation of such a powerful monopoly is the recent (February 17, 2009) concert at Atlanta’s Tabernacle venue given by Americana music legend Lucinda Williams. TicketMaster originally sold the $27.50 tickets for this show in December of 2008 with additional fees of $8.75. Then, with the announcement of the proposed merger, effective January 1st, tickets for the same show were instead offered at LiveNation.com with fees increased to $13.50 – 49.1% of the ticket cost of $27.50! This example is cited at the end of the AJC article.
This merger will need approval from the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission before it can proceed. I urge you to do everything in your power to see that this merger is stopped. The consumer abuses that will result as a result of this new monopoly are something that must be avoided.
I thank you Senator for your kind attention to this matter.
Signed,
Tom Tracy

Thx for the reports. Is there a pedal steel on Ventura? Who plays it? Good?
In B’ham & Atlanta, Chet played pedal steel & did a good job (although “Ventura” was not performed)…
Tom
tntracyParticipantSounds like another great show – thanks for the setlists & info. Lu continues to mix it up – stoger can correct me if I am wrong, but this may be the tour debut of “Ventura”. Also, she did not play “Car Wheels…” at either the B’ham or Atlanta shows. Good stuff…

Yeah, she announced this from the stage at the Atlanta show. Lu & Tom really DO care about the fans…

Sorry, Tom. I should have said Atlanta, not Alabama!
I knew what you meant! π
You really should check out a show or two from this tour if you can, Tim. It is a special one, IMHO…
Tom
tntracyParticipantCool, thanks for the heads up, Tim. It’ll be good to see Doug again, if only on television…
Tom
tntracyParticipantWe were out front of the Tabernacle in Atlanta waiting on doors to open for an hour – didn’t see anyone playing mandolin.
Good luck on your adventure…

The concert at Minglewood was great, and the “rough trade” wasn’t that rough at all. However, I’m sorry that you guys missed Lucinda at the Poplar Lounge afterwards. It was a real treat to meet Lucinda in a small, intimate setting (aka, “dive”), and she was very gracious to all of her admirers. She sang only one song, but it was much appreciated by the 30 or so people in the bar. Thanks, Lucinda!
That sounds cool. What song did Lu sing?

Did anyone notice the couple right in front of Chet who spent most of the show making out? I’m not sure they saw much of the show. Hope they heard it!
No, I missed that, but they must have been just to our left. We were just to the left of Lu – kinda in-between her & David. I wasn’t looking down that way much, though…

Great reports! So it wasn’t snowing yet by showtime? I’ll bet LW is having a hellish ride to DC is the storm.
This from sunny So Cal.
The snow did not start here in N. Georgia until Sunday morning. All Saturday night it was just a light, cold rain & about 40 degrees.
And Lu & Co. should have gotten to the DC area ahead of the storm. The buses & truck pulled out of Atlanta at 1:30 AM – just a couple of hours after the show was over. The plan was to spend the off days there.
