    Thanks for posting the link.

Hmmm. Seemed to be a mixed review most of the way, but ended on a positive note.

    But….

Rather alarmingly, however, the back catalogue is now such that Miss Williams felt the need to regularly refer to sheets on a music stand in front of her

here’s that rubbish yet again. I can not, for the life of me, understand what the huge issue is some people have with the lyric sheet book. I honestly fail to see the problem – get over it!

Never heard of him before, Lafayette, but here is what allmusic.com has to say about him:

    Biography – by Richard Skelly

Born and raised in Buffalo, singer/songwriter Willie Nile came from a musical family — his grandfather was a vaudeville pianist who played with Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and Eddie Cantor, and his uncles played boogie-woogie. Nile’s older brothers, meanwhile, brought home the music of Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly and Fats Domino, all of whom he heard from the time he was three or four years old. Nile himself began playing piano at age eight and took classical music lessons until he was a teenager, when he taught himself his first rock & roll song. He soon began to compose short songs and continued the habit into his college years, when during the summers he made trips into New York City to frequent hootenanny clubs like Folk City and the Gaslight. After graduation, Nile took an apartment in the heart of Greenwich Village; however, during his first winter in New York, he contracted pneumonia, which put him out of commission for about a year, although he continued writing songs while recuperating. After regaining his health, he began hanging out at clubs like CBGB’s, where he would see bands like Patti Smith, Television, the Ramones and Talking Heads.

At establishing residency at the Village club Kenny’s Castaways, Nile began drawing ever-growing crowds, which in turn led to his first record deal. Following a flurry of critical acclaim, he found himself courted by representatives from close to a dozen record companies; he chose Arista Records, and went into the studio with a band that included Jay Dee Daugherty from the Patti Smith Group. After two acclaimed albums a self-titled 1980 effort and 1981’s Golden Dawn, Nile fell prey to protracted legal problems which derailed his career for a number of years; although he continued to write, he did not perform live or record again until a 1987 performance in Oslo, Norway with Eric Andersen. A videotape of Nile’s performance in Norway prompted a Columbia talent scout to sign him to the label in 1988, and production on his album didn’t start until for two more years; issued in 1991, Places I Have Never Been featured appearanced by backing musicians including Richard Thompson, Loudon Wainwright III, Roger McGuinn, and members of the Hooters and the Roches. A four song EP titled Hard Times in America followed in 1992.

I’ll chime in for those still on the fence – I’d agree it is a very good (& interesting) CD – well worth the $10 US…

Good luck to all those still struggling to get their own copy!

    Tom

P.S. I gotta show off my copy – it’s signed by all the gents in the band, except Butch who had already high-tailed it back onto the bus in Atlanta when I got the other autographs. Hopefully, I’ll rectify that in June in Louisville, KY (or Columbia, MO, or Kansas City, MO…)

Wow: what quantity, quality of songs. Brisbane is on the Southern coast, no? It’s a guess, somehow connected with “Atonement” and “Unsuffer Me” popping up in the encore, somewhat unusual. Those seem very “Southern” [American Southern that is] songs. Thanks for posting.

Nearly the opposite Stoger. Brisbane is the start of Australia’s north, on the east coast and yet some may suggest it’s like the south in the USA.

Well then, maybe it’s because both the American South & Brisbane are closer to the equator than the majority of the rest of their respective countries? 😆

    Sorry – couldn’t help myself w/ a little geographical humor there… 😉

    The power of cyberspace.

It’s only one ticket (or maybe two), however, I do feel great about turning a fan onto Lu’s show in Phoenix. I was over on Lu’s facebook page and noticed someone posted he wished she would come to Phoenix. That show had already been announced on the website, so I shot this person a message and told him LU was doing a show in Phoenix, gave him the 411 on the venue, even the link for him to order tickets. He just posted tonight on my page thanking me as he scored 12th row center seats and is thrilled!

    Life is good.

    Bravo!!

Does this mean you will be extending your “School’s Out” vacation tour???

Well, despite how much I hate casinos (I’ve never been one for all the flashing lights and the glitz, plus I don’t gamble), at only 2 hours drive farther West, it would be hard not to do so. We’ll see… 😉

Us Blue Note attendees should get together for a beer either before or after.

Before works for me. But plenty early enough – I plan on being at or near the front of the line for doors… 😉

Should be plenty of bars in the area, since the Blue Note is 3 blocks north of the edge of the Mizzou campus. Unless, that is, college students don’t drink beer like they did back in my day… 😆

Oh, and here’s a photo of the Brown Theatre at the Kentucky Center in Louisville:

Looks fancy. It will be quite a transition from this “palace” to the Blue Note in Columbia the next evening, won’t it? 😆

Hellfire, Tom, I’d show you around Memphis–if I planned to be there at the time.

Yeah, I know you would, stoger, but figured, based on your earlier comment, that you would be heading West from Columbia to OKC. ‘Tis OK – maybe next time!

    @stoger wrote:

Can you tell if Brown Theatre has seats, is reserved? This one may bear keeping an eye on, to get optimum spots near stage.

I just called the Kentucky Center & spoke to Carly, a most pleasant young lady. Tickets go on sale at http://www.kentuckycenter.org at 10:00 AM (Eastern time – I checked to verify their time zone) on Friday, April 17th. And, they will indeed be reserved seats…

We are on the floor at the Blue Note. Just ordered tickets.

We will be driving Atlanta to Louisville for the show on the 14th, then driving the next morning from Louisville to Columbia for this show. Then home to Atlanta, with “touristy” stops in St. Louis & perhaps Memphis. I thought we’d make a little vacation out of the trip…

    Hey,

I just got my Lucinda tickets for Tucson Az. I was wondering anyone knows if the the Buick 6 plays a opening set before the Lucinda set. Also does she ever meet the fans after the show?

Hello – welcome to the forum!

To answer your first question – Yes. Buick 6 plays an opening set (usually 45 minutes long or so) before they return to the stage w/ Lu after a break.

And your second – Sometimes. It all depends on several factors, as you can probably imagine – how tired she is, whether the buses have to leave quickly after the show to get to the next town, even sometimes whether she has personal friends and / or family visiting with her after the show. I can speak from personal experience, however, that Lu (& her manager Tom Overby) are very accommodating and gracious to the fans. If circumstances permit, Lu will often greet fans & sign autographs.
