TimParticipant“West” makes another best of 2007 list:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2007/12/13/derk.DTLTimParticipantNo. Honey Bee is a new song that she wrote this summer.
TimParticipantIt’s amazing how differently people reacted to this record. Some loved it & some really disliked it. Here’s another posting about it:
Turin, Los Angeles
More money, more money, Lu. She’s obviously got it down pat: The more people I get to know and use for songs, the more money I make and the more stars i get attached to my reviews. And I get pity points and everyone thinks I’m so analytical and brilliant while the people I write about are forced to deal with being used for personal and professional profit. She used her mom’s own demise for profit. That’s the lowest thing I can think of doing. Have you no shame, old woman?I could write a Lucinda Williams song at this point. They’re all the same. She hates men. Hates them. (but she hides under a feminist label so she’ll be safe with mother jones and salon and all those meaningless rags)But she needs material so she can afford her wine and her airbrushed photoshoots to hide her aarp status. So she finds a poor bloke, buys him some drinks or twenty and sleeps with him then picks every single detail of his existence apart and turns it in as a song. I can’t imagine ever being one of these people. I mean no wonder she’s always miserable. Ever heard of karma Lucinda? It called, along with all your ex-lovers (who are awakening from their drunken stupor right about now and showering in bleach and valtrex They said I told you so! Keep wallowing. Keep cashing in. Your shameless. Your mother would be hurt and appauled. And so am I. Will Never support someone whose m.o. is all about profit and self pity again.TimParticipantI’ve checked with the two PBS stations in Boston, and it is not scheduled to be shown! Major bummer. And they’ve always tried to portray themselves as one of the top PBS outlets in the country!
TimParticipantI agree, Stan. Every time I’ve seen him do it, it’s been great. There’s no need to have a “name” artist do it; what for, to sell a few more records? The song doesn’t flow as good when other people do it. I’d rather see Lucinda do it by herself if not Doug. The first time I saw this song performed was in July 2005, and it was stunning. Lucinda explained that it was written as a duet, but did all the vocals herself that night.
TimParticipantSome of my favorite live albums are:
The Rolling Stones: Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out
Allman Brothers Band: Live At The Fillmore East
Neil Young: Live Rust
The Band: Rock Of Ages
Eric Clapton: Just One Night
Lucinda Williams: Live At The FillmoreTimParticipantThis clip is from one of the New York City shows, not the El Rey.
TimParticipantI believe he’s from Austin, Minnesota.
TimParticipantStella,
I agree that the last night at the El Rey was terrific. My three highlights of the 2nd set guests for all the shows were:
1. Jim Lauderdale “King Of Broken Hearts” with Emmylou singing harmony
2. Emmylou Harris “Red Dirt Girl” (Emmy playing great guitar on this)
3. Mike Stinson “Unslip My Mind” (title could be a little different; not sure)TimParticipantPancho and Lefty is on the “Luxury Liner” album. A very good album.
TimParticipantHe’s a typical Minnesotan. Down to earth and hard working. He’s done a great job for Lucinda since taking over as her manager.
TimParticipantInside Job is Tom Overby.
TimParticipantThe players in the band are:
Doug Pettibone; Guitars, Harmonica and vocals
David Sutton: Bass Guitar
Butch Norton: Drums
Chet Lyster: Guitars and keysOctober 27, 2007 at 6:25 pm in reply to: World Without Tears live in NYC/CA versus Live at Fillmore #34760TimParticipantFor one thing, Live At The Fillmore was a compilation of three different shows, while the El Rey was from one night. I think the band is quite a bit better on the Fillmore record, while Lucinda’s voice sounded tired at times. (She has said this herself in the past). She said the reason she released it as is, was because of the great performances of the band.
