TimParticipant
Thanks for the report Stoger. Sounded like it was far from being a real good night. They’ve been off the road since Thanksgiving, though. Sorry to hear about Mark & Flappy. If that holds true, that’s a big loss. I’m flying out to Minneapolis in the morning and will be attending tomorrow night’s show. Let us know how tonights’ show goes if you can. Thanks again.
TimParticipantThat is one of my all time favorites, Lefty!
TimParticipantIs it the same band that she had at the end of last year?
TimParticipantNice article, Lefty. I attended the show last night in Northampton and she was terrific. Did four or five new songs from her upcoming album as well as material from “Seven Angels”. Her band was very sharp, and was augmented with her husband, Javier Vercher on sax, keyboards and percussion. She will be taping an episode for Austin City Limits in two weeks.
TimParticipantGlad to hear that, Inside Job. I think everyone out here is really looking forward to it.
TimParticipantAnother great article, Lefty! Thank You. I bought the record the day it came out and I really enjoy it.
TimParticipantParker, it would probably be the usual alternate takes of some songs and other outtakes. I don’t want to talk about that because I’m afraid her record company might hold the new album back to release another re-issue of an album that has been available for two decades. It’s amazing how some people in the record biz think. (Money is everything).
TimParticipantI can wait a long time for the re-issue. It’s been out there for 20 years! It’s time for the new record. That’s what I can’t wait for.
TimParticipantYour welcome. I’ve seen a picture of the theatre; it looks real nice. I’m surprised it still is not listed on lucindawilliams.com or High Road Touring. I’ll be heading out to Minneapolis on vacation the next morning and will be catching that nights’ show. Let us know how it goes if you can.
TimParticipantAwesome article, Lefty! Thank you very much.
TimParticipantTony; “Blue” only twice. “Sweet Old World” once. “Essence” maybe eight.
“Pineola” six. “Greenville” three times. I think that the versions of “Blue” & “Essence” on Live At The Fillmore are fantastic. She’s written so many great songs that she can’t do nearly all of them. That’s the only thing about the new records that come out; she’s obviously promoting them and doing quite a few of those songs, but there’s less room for her older great ones. Hopefully the new one will have a few more great songs on it. But if she does say, six from that album, and three or four from “West”, that doesn’t leave much room for older material.
I think the “Essence” album was highly underrated! It’s filled with great songs, and I think they sound even better live.TimParticipantI’m not going to participate in an album by album thing. I’ll just say that of all the great songs that Lucinda Williams has written, my favorites are:
1. Blue
2. Sweet Old World
3. Essence
4. Pineola
5. GreenvilleTimParticipantGreg Leisz is also all over Carrie’s “Seven Angels On A Bicycle” album. It was great hearing him at The El Rey the last two nights there. These two albums are must haves for me.
TimParticipantStella, thank you for posting that great article!
TimParticipantHere is alot more on the record.
