Thanks for the posting, Tom. That doesn’t even cover 1/5 of the F-bombs that rained down on us that night. Hope that you enjoy the show in Atlanta next week. I have a feeling it’ll be a great one.

All I Ask, it is a great song. They haven’t been doing it much the last couple years. It was her boyfriend at the time who was on the bus with her, and said something like, “I can’t wait to get off of this metal firecracker.” Then she wrote the song with that title.

It seems like it was suitable until Lucinda showed up. It’s ironic; I was speaking to the man that’s in charge of putting the shows on before it got started. He’s been doing it for quite awhile. He told me that they’ve been trying to get her for four years, but there was always a scheduling conflict. He said he’d been working with Lu’s people all day and they were all good people. He was really excited about the show. Now after what transpired you have to wonder if they will ever ask her back, especially if they have a Board of Directors or some kind of political body.

With all due respect, “Metal Firecracker” is about a tour bus. I’ve heard this from Lucinda’s mouth at a number of shows. The El Camino noted is mentioned in “Lake Charles”.

Isis, I heard the songbird also. What an experience that was! It kept it’s singing up for at least the first five or six songs. Those songs were too beautiful for it to keep quiet. It was in a tree just to my right. Thanks for mentioning it.

Hi Clive, nice to hear from you again. No, I did not see Lu & Doug in ’06. I have family in the Twin Cities area but do not live there. I went out to see the show at the Zoo a few weeks ago; it was a great show. I saw your quote about being depressed when The Love Band dissolved. Likewise with myself. I guess all great things have to come to an end.

It was quite a night last night, didn’t lack for drama that’s for sure. The setlist that was posted was correct, except that Overtime followed Reason To Cry. I really liked the start of the show; those first six songs were just done beautifully. Thank you Lucinda, for playing “Blue”; your voice sounded great and I thought it was the best version of it I’ve ever heard. 2-Kool was aborted three times before they got it right. One time someone missed the count-in, another there was a bee in Doug’s shirt, and the last time Lucinda had a coughing fit. Looks like her guitar tech came out with a bottle of cough syrup which she drank and had no more problems after that. Great version of “Out Of Touch” with Doug’s guitar entering the stratosphere! After “Little Rock Star”, she said that we’re going to do another new song. That’s when the guy yelled out, “play some Pink Floyd”. Lucinda did not look happy but only said, “I wish I knew some”. Right after the song ended is when the explosion happened. Guitar tech came out to help her with the book, and she went on an expletive filled diatribe for a few minutes. She mentioned “I don’t know what to do now; you have no idea what it’s like being up here; you’ve ruined the vibe of the band & the show; I hope you didn’t pay to come in here; if you don’t like it why don’t you just leave, etc. (without expletives.)
I thought that she might leave, but thankfully she didn’t. After this, “Righteously” got off to a ragged sounding start, but a great solo from Doug pulled it back together. At this point what I thought I saw & heard was the band rallying around their boss and just playing so hard that they got her spirit back into the show. Doug’s guitar got grittier; Butch’s drums sharper & louder; David’s bass was booming and Chet, who is usually stationary on stage became animated and was moving around the stage. A number of times he was facing Butch’s drums and grinding as he played rhythm guitar.
Towards the end of “Joy” Lucinda got the tech on stage and said something to him; next thing I saw was him scrambling on stage with a few pages that he stuck on top of the book. It turned out that they did all of “Riders”. “Bone Of Contention” was done solo and sounded good. Her spirits were much better now. She apologizied for the “minor meltdown” at this point. Great, burning version of “Unsuffer Me”, and then “Long Way to The Top” which got everyone up on their feet. All in all I really enjoyed the show, but there were some ups and downs.
P.S. This is just my opinion, but from hearing some comments and talking to other people, I think Lu may be playing too many unreleased (in some cases unrecognizable to them) songs for some people’s tastes. I think they’re going to see her, but also want to hear songs that they know and are familiar with. She’s doing 5 or 6 a night and when you think of it, that’s a third of the show! I think if she limited it to 2 new songs per night it may go over better with alot of her audience. The time to do 5,6 or 7 of them per night will be after the album comes out and people are more familiar with them.
Also saw Paul from LA at the show and got to speak with him. He had the best seat in the park; on a blanket right under Lucinda’s mike! Hopefully, Paul, you got back to LA safely and you had no trouble with your rental car. Paul may have the best take of what happened on stage because he was right there.
Thanks to the sound crew for playing Neil Young’s Harvest & Prairie Wind albums before the show. Buick 6 was great again!

Heaven Blues is a whole different song than Doors Of Heaven. I heard it played in Minneapolis. It is a sort of Delta Blues song, Lucinda on acoustic & Doug playing bottleneck slide on it.
Masters of War has never been recorded by Lucinda to the best of my knowledge. I heard her & the band do a startling version of it last year in Greensboro, NC.
The AC/DC cover was recorded during the sessions for the new album. Not sure if it’s going to make it on or not.

Well, Well, Well has been confirmed to me. I think every other one except for I Live My Life & Bone Of Contention will make it. I do not think either of these will be on it. I think Bone Of Contention was just written in the last few weeks.

Thank you very much Stoger for the great reporting on all those shows. Going to the Lowell show on Saturday, hope to see you out in Lu Land later in the year.

I’m still recovering from last night. It was magical for me. The intensity seemed to keep building throughtout the set. Like Paul said, many people came out of the stands and went down front to dance. One sight that was unforgettable was during “Unsuffer Me” ( a song with a slower beat), they formed a chorus line with their arms around each other’s shoulders, and swayed to the beat for the whole song. “Circles & X’s” was very much country sounding. “Real Love” a straight out rocker. “Tears Of Joy” has been changed into more of a blues, as has been noted here before. “Heaven Blues” was pretty much Delta blues with Lu playing acoustic; Doug bottle neck slide, and Butch sitting in front of his drums on a home made contraption. “Little Rock Star” is an interesting song lyrically and musically. Lucinda played acoustic and the band came in and picked up the tempo off and on.
As far as the food incident goes; I didn’t see it get thrown, but a roadie ran out and kicked it off the front of the stage. Lucinda mentioned after the song, something about some people not being able to handle their alcohol. And then said, “You really haven’t made it in Rock, until someone throws a piece of food at you”. At the end of “Unsuffer Me” a woman stepped up on the stage and kissed Lucinda on the cheek.
Again, I thought the band was firing on all cylinders; but Doug Pettibone is just so good that he’s almost in another world now.

One more thing, Stoger. That multi-instrumentalist from Spain is none other than Carrie’s husband Javier Vercher. He’s a very talented jazz musician. You can check some of his stuff out on you tube.
