Grit, soul, and frolic–that’s our Lu and her number one sideman. I don’t see much “complaint” in the new song “When I look at the World,” (relatively anyway) but OK.
Any Forum members in Beantown?
stogerParticipantThanks for digging this up, Tony. “Rhon” was planning to go, and perhaps we will still hear from her, even though she has lost her password here. As “S. . ./Stowaway” can attest, you can sign back in with a different handle and join the fray once more.
stogerParticipantThanks for fine comments, Lefty. Any letdown while at the merch table? No literary reading before the show? Count me in for any mass Forum fan gathering.
stogerParticipantThanks lwj, though I would argue the two performers are less “disparate” than this person maintains. Still, Doug and Lu along for the closing ride thru Muhlenberg County has to be one for the ages. Photos anyone? I envy the Bostonians this Sabbath. Lefty, eh?
stogerParticipantWhy that sly dog. “Multi-tasker” doesn’t begin to capture his essence. Hopefully, he got to sell/sign his own record simultaneously at set break. Wish I had hung for this one. . .

Great report Paul. Matt is the merch guy, yes no?
Different Matt I think, tony–though our merch guy is a multi-tasker. Hell though, it might be the same.
stogerParticipantVery nice, especially the Garcia Lorca reference: Deep Song, “cante jondo” I think in Spanish, is one among many influences upon Lucinda.
stogerParticipantNice variations on setlist after all: thanks Paul. On to Eaton?
stogerParticipantFine work, Paul–hope those “new acquaintances” pay off for you down the line. You might test the policy with a little dancin’ near the end of the main set, if you can squeeze geometrically between those parallel/perpendicular tables at just the right angle. Here’s wondering how much the set list can and will possibly be varied tonight, since a lot of the classic, relatively slow ones were in there last night. . . .
stogerParticipantAh, what a fine report: you can stowaway in MY [sugar-y] heart any time, correspondent! I didn’t realize the band would be along for the afternoon labor thing–nice portrait of Butch in a kind of hard hat. The alternating cover/original pattern early in the set is nice to see, though Lucinda’s feelings about organized labor are perhaps not as polarized as one might think (for those who remember certain Beacon Theatre shows, but let’s don’t linger there). “Memphis Pearl” and “Disgusted” at Woodstock make for a surprising and great combo.
Yes, this “civilian” must report for duty Thursday, and it sounds like other employment spots in the American South are hard at it today. Put those English-major verbs like “eschewed” into play daily, will you? Maybe next time I’ll get to ride the tour bus myself. But no complaints. Who’s going to DC for the duo format? Paul? Report
please!stogerParticipantGood work, Visions. I must have been close to you up front; we’ll meet next time maybe.
A few addenda: Lu plugged the Woodstock/Helm event after song 8.
She introduced “Protection” as just that: one-word truncated title. Afterwards, she returned to the Amos Lee motif, saying his brand of “blue-eyed soul” would work well in the studio on that song.
After “Honeybee,” Lu compared it to the Ramones and Johnny Thunder.
Betty LaVette got a nod before “Joy.”
Yes, “Get Right” came before “rockin in the free world.” A propos of the latter, Mr. Lee (back on stage) was lauded further, Philly being his hometown and Lu headed that way for a Sat. afternoon benefit for labor (“the left side”). Lu mentioned that it was a last-minute show, but she is looking forward.
A great run, thanks to all–let’s hear some setlists and reports, and I’ll see some more folks down the line….

Those 3 Days [tour debut or bust, tony g You didn’t get that one in New England, I daresay. No hesitation, no waffling, straight into it, nailed, one of the best moments of this tour year for me]
You have my attention, perfesser! Care to elaborate?
All I meant, lefty, is that “Those 3 Days” is one of my favorite songs. It hadn’t been done in awhile, though it has been an alternate on some setlists. The opening has been tricky for Lu live, and she seems tentative about whether she once played (or should play) guitar on it. But it went swimmingly. Both nights 😀
stogerParticipantThanks bk for addressing the neighborhood issue.
A more definitive setlist appears under the thread above, thanks to “visions.” Let’s call him/her Charlie Chaplin.

Great reports everyone! Damn those hipsters.
Are you sure about Sweet Side being a tour debut? I seem to remember hearing in in Portland. 🙄
You are my fact-checker, Tony. As I whispered to West Words at the time, “I THINK that’s a tour debut.”
stogerParticipantOpening disclaimer: it wasn’t my Ben gay either.
Wow, completely missed the molestation of the anonymous female Forum member incident but hope to get filled in tonight in the new borough.
Congrats on using “tntracy” as an adverb, west words, nice image there.
“I Need Protection” and “Seeing Black” back to back was by far the highlight, for me.
Yes, standing to the side, back against the wall, seemed a good plan initially. But it turned out to be the portal of exit from the bathrooms and downstairs bar back into the main room. Not that many people going to and fro were too concerned with the proceedings on stage. Terrible spot, would rather have been quasi-molested up front. “Blonde blather” was only the least of it.
Tony, it’s hot: all you need to know. The neighborhood? Lower Manhattan Soho funky. Nothing to elaborate on–we’ll see what upper Brooklyn brings tonight.
Dr. Winston, I envy you both the wind and those early November London shows. Rumour has it there might be two more on the Continent proper, but I leave that to future news.
