As ever TomO, thanks for the update, very much appreciated, exciting times ahead for you both and us as well,
just helps build the anticipation for the forthcoming tour.Did I miss said “update,” Dr. W?
stogerParticipantI bet some Forum members will, now that we know she won’t be coming “live from Chicago” this week 😀
stogerParticipantQuel dommage. I was at that 2009 Paris show, with a few dozen others. Anybody remember “the twins?” I guess the tour will now end in the UK, Tom? Any July dates at all?
“Plz” reply.
stogerParticipantWas just looking at the list today, lwj. . .
Can’t make it in May or real early June, but those UK dates are calling my name. Of course, I haven’t ruled out the great land of Espana either, Castillan or Catalan regions. I hope to carve out a fortnight or so in there somewhere, and make my 50,000 miles with US Airways get me over, before the merger with American potentially screws that up. Wouldn’t mind a Benelux or Swiss visit either. . .

I’ve been slacking on checking twitter, otherwise, I might have scooped,, however, who needs to scoop when we have stoger.

Ha: I do protect my sources, lwj. And it’s NOT the poster formerly known as “inside job,” though I hope he adds to this (and I trust he can spell the names of Malin and Mann correctly: ho).

stogerParticipant“Lucinda sang Petty’s ‘Rebels’ backed by the ‘house band’ for the gig ‘Cabin Down Below’. She hung in there but it appeared mama was not 100% happy. Lu had chat with house band guitarist/singer dude as Boz Scaggs hit the stage. They did ‘Changed the Locks’ with Boz & Lu alternating verses. Yup. A spirited ‘I believe in socialized medicine’ * rap followed the applause as she came off the stage reminding the audience this was a benefit for Sweet Relief musician healthcare. Did I mention the large ‘Jameson’ Irish whiskey emblem projected behind the stage?. . .Amy (sic) Mann was beaut. Oh yeah: Jesse (sic) Malin did one too. Lucinda returned for the encore of ‘Freefallin’ backed by what looked loke 30 musicians from the evening so far. (Old friend and fellow Petty performer Chuck Prophet called her to the stage in fact)Sounded great: inspired, full throated belting it out, and obviously having a great time. ..”

I’d like to hear Return of the Grievous Angel.
She once fended off a shouted request of that with something like “people don’t realize how hard that one is to play.” But we can still hope. . . .

5 sets and no 2 kool? bizarre.
I think the issue is that the duo set lists typically focused on songs Lu normally plays guitar on with the band. The one time I heard “2 Kool” on the last tour, Doug was flustered and Lu uncomfortable after she put the guitar down. But perhaps others can add technical info. At any rate, no more versions for our (is he Japanese?) 2 Kool fan to log.

I’ve been meaning to respond to this thread since we were in Fayetteville visiting Miller, but for some reason couldn’t sign in. It was a small irony when this topic popped up because there was a beautiful print made for Lucinda and Miller’s Poetry Sung Poetry Said show in Chicago in 2004 (i believe). It is a block print done by Kevin Bradley who had Yee Haw Industries in Knoxville and has done a couple of other designs for Lucinda (including the Raised On Polk Salad and Poetry t-shirt for Car Wheels). Anyway, the print which is displayed at Miller’s house, has the words to Miller’s A Poem For Emily on the left side and the words to Blue on the right side. The irony is that A Poem For Emily is about the birth of Emily, Lucinda’s niece. When this thread popped up I thought the whole death and birth thing was, well….ironic.
I should add that if anyone ever sees this print show up on Ebay or elsewhere I would like to know as I do not believe that Lucinda has one -and there were only a hundred made.I also have to add that the response earlier in this thread of “they’re not worth it in the end” was absolutely hilarious.
The post of the year.Ha: TO Himself shut out of the sign-in process temporarily? I can relate, you spammer you. And the Yee Haw poster of Car Wheels hangs on my living room wall, purchased at Disc Exchange of Knoxville. No doubt its graphic image will appear in this space soon, courtesy Lafayette.

Oh no, the London show on 17 June at the Barbican clashes with Neil Young & Crazy Horse at the O2 Arena! 😥
I wonder if there are going to be any more UK shows after the one in Aberdare?
too bad Lu is not playing the small room within the O2 complex, like she did opposite the Foo Fighters a few years back: you could shuttle back and forth, and Neil could assign his band a long instrumental and pop over for some “Sweet Old World” back-up work.

That list is missing “Bohemian Wedding Prayer”, sung by Shannon McNally.
To set the record straight, the official title of the song is “Bohemian Wedding Prayer Song”. When stoger & I saw Shannon & Amy perform in Oxford, MS in December of last year, That’s what I called the song in a pre-show conversation w/ stoger, based on the song’s title from Amy & Shannon’s Chasing The Ghost EP. Roger corrected me, saying it was “Bohemian Wedding Song”, which is indeed how the song is listed on Coldwater. All too often being trumped by stoger’s outstanding musical knowledge, I tucked my tail & made a mental note to look it up.
After the show, we had an opportunity to chat w/ both Amy & Shannon (until the doorman scooted us out into the cold Mississippi night). So, I asked Shannon which was the correct song title. Her reply? “Bohemian Wedding Prayer Song” – “Prayer” had been somehow omitted from the title on Coldwater.
Not trying to show you up, paul_from_losangeles – it’s just so infrequent that I best the Perfesser in a musical “argument” (although, admittedly, based on the two CDs’ liner notes, we each had an equal shot at being correct), I just had to point it out… 😆 😆 😆
Tom
No need to tuck tail, Mr. Moderator, you have bested me in past and will again no doubt soon. Let’s get ready to rumble. . . .
stogerParticipantYou are a public servant, Lafayette. [Anybody notice that Jamey Johnson’s Hank Cochran tribute album got a Grammy nomination? I think the title of the record was in fact “Make the World Go Away”]
stogerParticipantThanks, Tony: and see my companion comments today in the “Records” thread.
