a k a The Rough Trade offering: can’t wait. TnT, did you notice the word “South” in the neighboring thread?
stogerParticipantwow, at least a few lyrics of the tune are audible. The corporation seems to have kind of renamed it for posting purposes, and I would have bet “Soldier’s Song” was the chosen one based on the description.

TO ~ Is Lu set to play this Ohio River Throwdown? The press just went out on this event but I see no mention of Lu. I have a presale offer in my inbox thru Thursday.

Oh my: this led me to check http://bristolrhythm.com and verify that Lu is still the home-page poster girl for the following weekend’s festival. I think she’s solid for the Champagne, IL guitar fest the weekend before Cincy also. Hope for your sake Lafayette that it’s a trifecta.
stogerParticipantThat’s a blow to live music, to be sure. I still haven’t gotten my hands on that Bobby Charles tribute album, with its reputed sterling liner notes. No amount of Native American mysticism can assuage fans with tickets in the Far West, but I guess Shannon felt like she did what she had to do.

Yeah, the “problem” is, Amy LaVere is playing the exact same venue two nights later, and I really, REALLY want to see her as well. Two roundtrips to Greenville in two days? At 2 hours, 15 minutes each way, that could be doable if I can get the requisite kitchen passes… π

allow me to encourage this double dipping, sir.

Yes Mr. Stoger, it is on Elvis’ album The Delivery Man from 2004. Lu sings on it.
good heavens, how did I miss this in my Lu one-off collection? You the man, tony. And by the way, aren’t you the early riser type who would get up early and watch the Today Show LIVE???

apparently bbc do not film in the acoustic tent, so looks like lu’s performance has been lost to history.
I went over to catch some of Lucinda’s set on Sunday night at Glastonbury, we got there through “Drunken Angel”.
I am really new to her music but what a gift it has been to me in these last ten days, I read an article in my national newspaper in Scotland about her upcoming concert in Edinburgh on 24/06/2013, liked the interview and started listening with “Fancy Funeral”, immediately I recognised the voice from a duet she once did with Elvis Costello called “Theres a story in your voice” which I now understand was written for her.
I got some tickets and went along to the gig. I didn’t think that the set did her songs and voice a great deal of justice but I enjoyed the show tremendously. The grungy, minimalist style of set took a bit of getting used to from the warm production of her recordings.
Anyways, the part of the set I caught at Glastonbury was ok, not inspiring or inspired.I am continuing to work through Lucinda’s back catalogue, I just listened to “If wishes were horses”….what a great song.
If you want to give me some pointers, that would be greatthanks for this, johnd. “Circles and X’s” from the same record is a good companion piece to “If Wishes,” but you are doing the right thing by working through the catalogue.
Anybody recognize “There’s a Story in Your Voice” song? Was it written by Costello?

Awesome night Stoger. The Dylan tune is “She Belongs to Me”. Close enough. π
Thanks: should have known that, Tony. Lu was in a good mood π when their version of it was cut, no ?

Mr. Stoger, “Beeb”, to the Brits, is BBC. Translation, the BBC did not televise from the acoustic tent.
There is a lengthy article on Rolling Stone online about the festival but nary a word about Lu. Nary! 8)
How daft of me not to know, Sir Tony. I always suspected you of Anglophilia, so you better make the trip next tour! π

a quick heads-up: that crossroads program with lucinda and costello is on youtube in its entirety. essential viewing. some brazilian kid uploaded it.
Are you the “Brazilian kid” yourself, punch drunk? I’ve forgotten whether it’s Brazil or another South American nation.
July 1, 2013 at 3:14 pm in reply to: Pilton-Glastonbury Festival[UK] @ the Acoustic Tent 6.30.13 #51899stogerParticipantSo she did play the tent set, right? “Beeb” is unclear to me. At any rate, thanks for the memories lwj. Where was the bold fan in Gateshead who could have shouted out “Wild and Blue?”
stogerParticipantThat Crossroads episode is TV as well as radio, Elvis praising Lu’s songwriting and her modestly saying she has not been all that prolific, among other comments. At the Fabrik in ’03, a young man told me about the best record store in Hamburg, which I tripped the next day to buy World Without Tears in vinyl (bonus tracks) and tote it around in my luggage for the duration. Good memories, not bitter ones at all.

Any luck with the list, Martinsh?
Exile beat me to it. Just as well because I didn’t recognise songs I and 3, and had to leave after Passionate Kisses (to catch train home).
The sound may have been great on the front row, but it wasn’t quite so hot on the second row of the circle. Instruments wwere fine, but vocals tended to be overloud / distorted at times (luckily I know most of the words aleady !).
Was disappointed with the audience. I only booked a week ago, and 2nd row of circle wass best I could get, but looking around during the show, I could see better seats unoccupied. Looks like some folks didn’t turn up ? Also, circle didn’t seemed to have filled up since I saw the seating plan when buying my ticket.
Not been to a full Lucinda show before, so don’t know if these comments of hers about the songs are normal or unsual
“there are lots of Greenvilles in the USA, but this song’s about the oen in Mississippi”
“this ones a lot of people’s favourite” (Drunken Angel)
“he tried to keep up with Townes van Zandt – but no-one could keep up with Townes”Thanks. you two: exile, you were needed in Gateshead with your requests. Doug must be allergic to Blaze Foley, what with the sneeze.
Martinsh, those comments are pretty standard, though the bit about Greenville, MS is a nice clarification; I assumed MS, though my own Greeneville, TN (only one in America with extra -e in middle I think) would have been nice to think. But “Jackson” isnt’ about TN either. . . Sorry the crowd and sound were less than perfect.

My archival research reveals three pages on this show from July, 2009.
Here’s a portion of what you wrote stoger.
Yes, as SM posted in another stream, Lu “lost her cool” a bit at the end–though I must emphasize that her mood throughout was smiling, sound was good, intros to several songs relatively extended (though not much different from what she has said before). We gave her little energy. No, I wasn’t the lone standee, but I was clapping from row one, to little avail. I think the “shouldn’t be doing this” ultimately referred to the setlist and the fact that she wished she had gone more acoustic this night–rather than to some general statement about not performing or whatnot. Again, I will emphasize that I deliberately waited her out by the bus because I wanted to kind of apologize for the crowd or house, individually and/or collectively. Devon Sproule opened the show, and we were told the two were visiting inside, so kudos to Ms. Sproule for helping get Lu back in a good mood. The dozen or so people waiting bus side were eventually apologized to by Lu. Of course the majority probably shared the sentiments of the lone woman (no twin phenomenon in this town) next to me who said, near the end of the ACDC song, “what did she expect us to do?” A valid question that, in some sense at least.
I opted out of Buick 6’s set in the name of the sunset outside over the Tyne River. Sorry guys.
Just seems like the wrong venue choice.(can’t win em all)
lwj
Ah, it’s coming back to me now–thanks for reflecting my words back to me, lwj. We still don’t have a comprehensive set list for this one, do we? Please, just ONE tour debut among the shouted and played requests, please. . .
