Sears? As in [Pops] Roebuck? Man, you’re old school brick and mortar LWJ. I like it.

Be careful, tonyg:
“No alcohol will be for sale in the park, however, alcohol is allowed as per park rules: no hard alcohol or glass is allowed; beer and wine in non-glass containers ONLY. Any hard alcohol brought to the festival will be confiscated by SFPD and violators may be subject to fine.”

These libation rules are probably too subtle for tonyg, a man who chugs a six of PBR on any festive occasion, as I recall.
stogerParticipantWith all due respect to the Santa Monica pier venue, you are about right, lwj. Perhaps a companion show at the Fillmore West would be in order for this weekend, even with an admission charge. Frank Riley and High Road in general seem slow to forthcome (if that’s a verb), so perhaps TO can break some October gig news soon.

Lu looks great. Love the jewelry and bit of red peeking through. 😉
I’ll defer to you Great North boys on further research–sure would love a setlist from this funky-looking venue.
stogerParticipantExcellent visuals, Mike. A setlist from someone can’t be far behind. And assuming no lights have been installed recently at the Seattle Zoo, you are probably en route to the show even now.

Killing Me…
Had to bail on my plans to take the relatively short ride down to Portland for the show..
Took a road trip/mini vacation to Denver to see The Tedeschi-Trucks Band at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
While the venue, show and the long road trip (2800+ mile) was fantastic, it took a bit longer than anticipated and I am now scrambling to catch up on work to the point where the Seattle show was in potential jeopardy…I will make that one though, but extremely reluctantly had to cancel my hotel reservation in the Rose city today at the very last minute. Hope others are attending and I am hoping that this is the first and last NW Lu concert I have to miss..
Ouch Mike. Me too, for different reasons. Don’t waver on Seattle now. And they say Alaska provides a good “make-up” opportunity for certain things.

Not exactly breaking news but hometown boy Jeff Tweedy receives $100K from the Taste of Chicago canceled concert while Lucinda pockets a measly $50K..

thanks for reminding us that commercial considerations are part of the artistic experience, lwj–as well they should be. I just hope Lu was not “denied” certain vintage brands of red wine by any contract rider, and that that Southside blues club came through with some refreshments late in the evening. Olives?????????

wow. Which one, if either, is based on Birney Imes’ book of photographs? Maybe both are? A little birdie indicated to me that this Mississippian has given leave for his work to be, once again, used as cover art.
stoger, your little birdie was right on the $$$$.
In the end, here is what Lu really wanted to go with. These are the front and back covers. (The back here is for the vinyl version.)
The photos are by Birney Imes from his well known book “Juke Joint”. It is the same book that provided the cover for “Car Wheels On A Gravel Road”, as well as the photo that inspired the song “2 Kool 2 Be Forgotten” – so it makes a cool connection with Lucinda’s previous artwork.
Lucinda just loves Birney’s photography and really loved these two photos, especially once she saw it as a mocked up album cover; she really loved the way colors popped and thought idea that juke joints as places where the spirit meets the bone fit the title. – Lucinda mgmt.Won’t miss this in the record shop for its vibrant colours.
lwj
Still, you gotta like the nod toward democracy. . . .

So who was in the band ” Doug P’ or Stuart M.
lwj
Perhaps Val M?
stogerParticipantWell, I see the sequencing is different from Tonyg’s list posted some weeks ago, with even a couple of songs jumping from one album to the other. “Protection” is included of course.
I’m still unclear myself on the Frisell thing, as both links indicate he is on one or more of these tracks for September. At any rate, let the countdown begin!
stogerParticipantwow. Which one, if either, is based on Birney Imes’ book of photographs? Maybe both are? A little birdie indicated to me that this Mississippian has given leave for his work to be, once again, used as cover art.
stogerParticipantWow that’s exciting. Was Doug up there after all? South State St. is the area of several of the fabled blues clubs, no? I too commend “management” for scrambling to salvage the visit to the Windy City, and for Forum members who transferred the news from Facebook and Twitter.
stogerParticipantWell done, v. Of course “the talent in the middle of the room” was a reference to the audience members right at Rich McCulley’s back, but hey, the four artists were pretty good too. Thanks for capturing the evening.

So is anyone going to the Chicago show? ❓
Surely someone is, tony, but I opted not to. I believe “vmorris” was considering it but leaning against. Let’s hope we get a report to tide us over to Fayetteville. And see YOU in Santa Monica, as they say. . .

I’m planning on going to see Jim in Buffalo , NY at the Sportsmen’s Tavern 7/17/14.
Jim will start off solo in the first set and will be joined by a local group the Stone Country Band for the 2nd set.
It’s a great dive venue with good food, friendly staff and a balcony.
I was there in Sep./12 to see Gurf Morlix so it will be a special treat to meet another musician connected with Lu from the earlier years.I remember how Jim managed to return from Bristol, TN to join Lu for several songs at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville last fall. I still have the Lightning 100 recording on my laptop.
Should be a great evening for $25.00
Here are the details.

the phrase “connected with Lu from the earlier years” loosely unites Morlix and Lauderdale, yes, but paths have diverged in more recent history. . . .
I too managed I-40 in record time, lwj, that fateful last fall. Bristol headliners this year, by the way, will be Emmylou Harris and jeff Tweedy.
