Interesting… Does Lilly Mae still sit in with the band??

I believe she will when she can, despite the absence of her sibling.

I’m thinking one syllable in the first word of the city, but I may be wrong. And thanks two of you for ungrammaticizing the title of the first encore song, which of course is not “You’re” but “You.”

Just wondering if anybody knows when Lucinda will be back in Europe, I have been twice to see her in Barcelona and cannot wait for a third. Just before Christmas I did a 2 part radio show on the new รกlbum, which is grammy bound…but what category.

Zero Grammy nominations in this country, I’m afraid, zhibzhii. Was it the Salo Apolo where you saw Lu in Barcelona?

Thanks, Tony; it appears the likes of Patti G and Shawn C were not quite as relegated to the background as that Post writer implied.

Very strange. I tried, once again, to copy and paste Mavis’s original tweet. This forum is having none of it. I keep getting error messages..

Yes, Tony is your guy for worsening almost any situation. Damn, I wish I had gone to the EH tribute, a la the Parsons tributes in California summer of ’03 (04?). And I should have known that any boobs references would be lafayette’s and lafayette’s alone.

I’m not sure if that anatomy quote is from Staples or lafayette, but right on.

I’m sure “Hickory Wind” was “wondrous”–regardless of whether the lyrics were memorized, were read from The Book, or were available by electronic monitor. Let’s hope LU came back out on “Boulder to Birmingham.”

Famed Arkansas poet Miller Williams, who founded the University of Arkansas Press and read a poem at President Bill Clinton’s 1997 inauguration, died Thursday night at a Fayetteville hospital after years of battling Alzheimer’s disease, a family friend confirmed.

Williams, 84, was born in Hoxie and moved around as a child while his father worked as a Methodist minister, according to an Encyclopedia of Arkansas entry.

He graduated from Arkansas State College — now Arkansas State University — with a degree in biology in 1951 and published his first collection of poems in 1952, called Et Cetera.

Williams taught biology at several schools before getting a job in the Louisiana State University’s English Department with the help of Flannery O’Connor in 1962, according to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas. He returned to Arkansas in 1970 to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

In the decades that followed, Williams received numerous awards and published several more collections of poetry.

At the Clinton inauguration, Williams read “Of History and Hope,” which he described in a 2013 Oxford American interview as a “consideration of how a look at a nation’s past might help determine where it could be led in the future.”

Williams married twice and had three children, including singer and songwriter Lucinda Williams.

“He was a wonderful teacher,” said Linda Sheets, a friend of the Williams family, who was reached at the family’s home. “He loved sharing what he knew about writing, and I learned a lot from him.”

Williams edited a recent book project by Sheets about rescued animals, which she said was the last project he worked on as an editor.

A journalist once described Williams as the Hank Williams of U.S. poetry, according to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas.

Sheets said Miller Williams would have been delighted to know that he also died on the same day — Jan. 1 — that Hank Williams died in 1953.

Miller Williams was a big fan, also viewing Hank Williams’ songs as poetry. He also once met Hank Williams at a gas station bar, Sheets said.

A journalist at Arkansas Educational Television Network remarked in 2009 that Miller Williams’ poetry was read in Ivy League schools but also enjoyed by squirrel hunters and taxi drivers.

“He wrote the kind of poetry that was deep but also easy to understand,” Sheets said. (NWAonline.com)

A propos of the first paragraph here and the third paragraph from the end, Hank and Miller Williams left this world on the same date, 62 years apart.

    My deepest condolences.

Any other venue, I gotta think Lu wins the headliner battle with BHT (they hail from up the road..) every time.
I’d make the trip just to catch Lu and the band at the amazing venue, but not as the opener.. at least not for this headliner. Caught Tedeschi Trucks Band there last July, and would jump at the chance…

Bucket list venue for me now is that cavern in Tennessee… Love for it to be a Lucinda show, think there is any chances of a repeat, Mr. Roger??

Hellfire, Mike, I can’t figure out when it aired/will air on my PBS outlet, so as to see myself from a few months ago. But if you are judging by headliner/length, her set is even shorter here than it will be at Red Rocks. Still, TN hospitality is hard to beat. . . .

Thanks, DDinNJ! I just called and got the first tix sold for the SLC show ๐Ÿ™‚ They are not available online yet, but you can call arttix at Phone :: 801-355-ARTS (2787), Toll-Free :: 1-888-451-ARTS (2787), and mention the code “spirit” and they will hook you up. I was living in SLC when I first discovered Lu, and my son was born there, so this is a fitting show to return to. Viv

Your backstory gets more interesting with every post, vm. Congrats on ticketing via an actual human voice (if not face).

Yes; she’s probably headlined there, but my visit found her in the penultimate act position–looks like the Big Todd Headed Monsters are playing the role this time of Ryan Adams and the Cardinals ๐Ÿ™„
