New Englanders take note:

Pre-sale Saturday
Aren’t you a former New Englander, Tony? And didn’t we see Lu there, with Tim and Eilen Jewell et. al. one time?
stogerParticipantThanks for covering my belatedness, tony and tom.
A few addenda:
Drunken A had a false start–reboot, with Lu doing a short Blaze intro the second time.
Butch donned the frottoir for Well Well Well, a k a “zydeco vest” in Anglospeak.
“We’re going to pick up the pace” marked the transition from song nine to ten, though had I known I would have yelled out “Stand Right” to prolong the lovely ballad segment.
Between 12 and 13, Lu apologized for her “road hard and put up wet” voice, mentioning all the illness going around and all the meds out there to combat same.
Vic Chesnutt got quite an intro. Thanks to Lu and Tom for doing “Seeing Black.”
As Marc Ford walked out and the band walked back on, Lu said “This is real rock and roll; this ain’t no bullshit. . . no glitzy Hollywood…” I suppose that was the equivalent of the Foolishness-addenda, since that song wasn’t done.
Wish I could do Bay Area. . .
stogerParticipantYes, would have been an excellent way to start a second quarter century of matrimony, downtown LA. Lafayette and stellablue and grumpymama and tonyg’s nephew and paul in house, among others.
“Drunken Angel” had some coughs/dropped lyrics, and I don’t think Stuart played harmonica on it.
“Foolishness” ran rampant again, Lu deeming it a “political song, of sorts.”
Before “Get Right,” lu referenced both Flannery O’Connor and John Huston, urging us to buy the book Wise Blood.
The KBB, sans Lillie Mae, rocked out, including two instrumental numbers and “Welcome to AL” in closing. The boys had some van repair issues but are riding large again, road map and Gideon Bible on passenger side dash.
Lovely upright segment in midset, “Are You Alright” & “Overtime.”
Lu praised the sound.
More please, from everybody.

From the lower echelon, Although LU claimed ( at the end of the show ) she started stressed out when she went on, I thought she was solid, but about mid way she did put her foot on the gas and at some point declared something like…..I’m not just a folk singer, I can…..ROCK!!!!!! Foolishness the extended version is great and maybe its because we are out here on our 24th Honeymoon, but again Essence was outstanding
Silver honeymoon anniversary in Europe for Lu, guys? I can see it happening.

Since my mind is blown by 2 consecutive awesome shows, I am going to have to post my remarks in a stream of consiousness style. I am not coherent enough to piece together my usual narrative. I hope Mr. Stoger does not throw a penalty flag at this departure from literary decorum.
I had the best seat in the house; the balcony, front and center from Lu. Not too shabby.
Lu did seem a little wound up when she took the stage but it did not affect her performance. She was clear voiced and into it. It was 3 songs or so before her first smile.
As great as Monday’s show was, I liked this one better due to the set list.
Buick 6 opened the show with the usual instrumental stylings. Butch was the emcee.
Speaking of Butch, I sat next to his friend, Dr. Ernie, and Dr. Ernie’s wife. Dr. Ernie referred to our drummer only as “Jonathan” at all times. Dr. Ernie has been gifted guitars by Jackson Browne and David Lindley.
On the other side of me sat Lu’s great friend and super photographer Peggy French. Peggy’s pictures will be the definitive ones from this show and any other Lu show she attends.
Matt Blake’s awesome CD has been playing before and after each show. Matt is the Merch Guy. His CD is produced by Doug Pettibone and Lu sings on one song. You should buy several copies. Really.
Lu went the extra mile on Foolishness, her longest rant yet I would say. She really expressed herself. You hafta catch this for yourself.
As DDin NJ stated, Lu was proud to rock out. She attributed her stressed-out status to the traffic battles we have to endure here in La La land. She stated that her performance had “healing powers” and by the end of the show all things were right in her world. Lu further stated that if you were a musician and your music was not “healing” then you were in the wrong business. So there!
Stuart really has Lu’s catalog dialed in. He has been super great. His parents were there but did not run me over this time.
The wine served at The Troubadour is the worst rot gut grape fluid I have ever consumed. It was all I could do to not spit it out. Needing alcohol, I guzzled it instead.
There was a cavalcade of famous FF members in attendance: Paul from Los Angeles (he is from Los Angeles) was snug as a bug at the corner of the stage, next to Cindy who was also at Monday’s show, GrumpyMama and Stellablueee, a reprise of our twin-Lisa attack, and DDin NJ, who I did not see and I regret my lack of hospitality.
We learned mid-show that the Pomona show has been cancelled. Don’t go to Pomona. Go to the show at the Regent instead.
Speaking of The Regent, where I have never been, it’s location makes me wonder if I should be packing the following: mace, brass knuckles, a knife, a revolver, and a large person as a bodyguard. Time will tell. Looks like a 100% standing show. Awesome.
Great to see everyone. I love going to bed at 2:30 and getting up at 5:30, the second time this week. Everyone should do this. Really.
I may add more musings to this during the day and pretend that they were here from the beginning all along.
Yours is a fine specimen of style meeting content successfully, tony. Rock on.

Interesting, after the show, sitting upstairs in the Loft at 12:30 AM, enjoying some wine with friends, watching a Troubadour employee diligently changing the marquee–opening two sliding windows, removing the individual letters L U C I N D A W i L L I A M S, carefully storing each letter in its alphabetical box, and newly placing letters for David Cook, the performer of tonight (2/24/15). Knowing the entire process will be reversed in 24-hours, with L U C I N D A W I L L I A M S being restored to the marquee. Maintaining the tradition of the Troubadour since 1957—no electronic marquees here.
Poetic post, Paul. I don’t believe I ever found the Loft in my 3 or 4 visits there. I take it you didn’t try for any Harry Dean Stanton sightings down the way at Dan Tana’s?

Thanks, tonyg, for posting the setlist. Although I was seated in the comfortable Loft before the show, I moved downstairs by the stage near Cindy and tonyg for much of the music. Good meeting all the folks mentioned by tonyg.
Note that Wednesday’s show is also sold-out, and that Lucinda’s band will play the opening set. The KBB returns Thursday night in Pomona. Although Lucinda’s band uses the name Buick 6, the Troubadour website links Buick 6 to the European band with that name.
Cindy? Cindy? Not our “Lafayette”/cindy?

A note to tonight’s concert goers, a Facebook posting from The Troubadour has the opening act at 8:30 and Lu on at 9:30. š
P.S. Not looking forward to standing all night on my arthritic joints but I will rock on as necessary. š
Twenty-seven holes of golf this afternoon might well prepare you for the legwork tonight. Be tough.
stogerParticipantMan, I missed that fight entirely, even though I was not too far from the stage; but I was extreme stage Sutton rather than centred. I had no idea it started during the opener and carried through. But the two “D’s” from Jersey can hold their own in any brawl, I’d say. Yes, it’s “home” for me, with Tony and a guest guitarist set to carry the crowd through Troubadour I and perhaps Troubadour II as well. I’ll be back on the circuit at the appropriate time; only our moderator knows for sure. . . .
stogerParticipantthanks to everyone for flattering and lauding me, but I don’t have much to add. It’s great that Mike was involved in an indirect way in that “dancing” incident. I don’t quite understand why the Rialto configures the house differently from Lu show to Lu show, but tony’s right that we had supreme vantage. Just a few things:
Some technical issues were headed off around song four, but Lu referenced the larger Santa Fe problems, suggesting that “the planets” might be to blame. But this was quite minor. She dropped the last line or so from “Drunken A” in what might have been coughing spasms, but the band covered and played the instrumental on out.
“Hickory Wind” was solo and sublime. The aborted-dance number was “West.” (song not aborted, but dance).
Good to see all and sundry, and my friend Brad and date (from Tucson) seemed to enjoy also.
Just a little love for the KBB, who played zero songs off their first record. The new material is great.
1 Blackbird (these titles are approximate)
2 Rain Down on Me (Lillie Mae on fiddle)
3 Breakdown
4 Fall on Me (LM on vocal)
5 You’re Gonna Burn (for the late Ikie, formerly of the Jack White Band)
6 Goodbye West Virginia (with two Risches and Kenneth only)
7 [a Freddie King instrumental number}stogerParticipantYeah, I thought “Magnolia” had been done too, and perhaps that “Metal F” was a debut this run. Anyway, “This Old Heartache” needs to be reprised with a TRUE pedal in Tucson, in my humble opinion.

“Stowaway” hasn’t been dusted off for awhile. Good to see.

For the record, I was actually referring to myself.
Ha ha, probably I knew that, but let the tour proceed south X southwest. Wouldn’t mind getting out of an icy west TN soon, real soon.

From T.O :
Well we made it on two fronts -couldnāy leave BC until 7am when the ferry opened and then had a delay at the border crossing -because we were apparently the first tour bus to ever cross there and they had no idea what to do. Very odd. We didnāt even get to Spokane until 6pm or so. We also made it in regards to the fact that, counting the radio show in Seattle this meant 7 days of shows in a row. Everyone is ready for a day off-but only after an 11 hour drive to Salt Lake -who schedule this tour anyway? Some rookie. After much debate over which āValentineā song to start the show with, Lu made a show time call to go with Steal Your Love. Copenhagen was dedicated to the events of the day in Denmark with Lu simply saying āwhen will it stop?ā
Another sold show making 7 in a row. 4 tour song debuts brining that count to 53.
“Rookie” Frank Riley needs a slap on the wrist.
stogerParticipantthanks, Mike; Stuart is the man. Red ink coming up, and I can’t think of a more unique, unpredictable trio of opening songs than what you list, even though “Steal” was not a tour debut. Ah, Copenhagen, long a sound or “ah” sound, doesn’t matter. Thanks.
