http://photosbynanci.smugmug.com/LebanonOperaHouseShows/Lucinda-Williams-2014thank you. Do you have or remember a partial or full setlist?
stogerParticipantHuh? A dry county, outside the American South? Unbelievable: maybe this is why, subconsciously, I chose to miss this one. Oh well. Let’s have a listen to the John Paul Keith song “Dry County” (Keith’s a Tennesseean), provided lwj or someone can dig up a link off his next-to-last album, which might be called Memphis Circa 3 A.M.
stogerParticipantNo, Vivian, I was too busy singin’ and dancin’ and groovin,’ generally cutting the fool, to come up with any intelligent comments now. Good job. Oh, I left my own black t-shirt on my back throughout, for the record.

Stoger,
I was about to hit the road and saw that it was a 7pm start, with Lu likely taking the stage at 8 or thereabouts, and I didn’t think I could make it before 9pm. Not my best day. Also, I was having dinner with Sven and I couldn’t bail (even though of all people, he would likely understand). I will shake this disappointment off, and focus on Friday and Saturday, although I won’t be able to enjoy the shows with you, my friend! Maybe consider New Haven and Katonah?? Viv
I will be in New Haven, yes.
stogerParticipantNot Tim C of yore?!?!?!!? Next you’ll tell me “davidinmaine” was in the house, Tony. And both dd’s of nj? Was I blind and deaf? Hellfire, I loitered in lobby quite a bit. And vmorris, this other new hampshire show tonight is probably three hours or less for you. Of course if you set out now you can still make the “instrumental stylings” (“les stylings instrumentique”) of Buick 6. Just sayin’…
stogerParticipantI would say D gave his spouse D that 6oth birthday request, but having seen them at multiple shows in the flesh, I can verify their ages at roughly half that figure. 😀
stogerParticipant“One More day” wow!!!!!!!! Thanks dd and visions–a year is far too long, I agree. We’ll see what Tom adds to this in time. “Bus to Baton Rouge” is noteworthy and probably is the plastic couch tie-in. NO mention of grandma in housedresses swatting cockroaches with newspapers? And as for the other side of the fam, “switches” indeed. Wish I could have joined visions, dawn, and dominic.
stogerParticipantWell, I guess that’s the answer to the “Blue” query right there. And despite the monochromatic colors, great set list. “Copenhagen” and “People Talkin'” are two of my faves, so perhaps they will work their way to the other side of the slash mark real soon. . . . . I love you Geneva, in absentia.
stogerParticipantNice blue variation on the red ink: might “Blue” itself be played soon?

Nice report Roger.. thanks.
Enjoy Iowa…
Last time I saw Lu in Iowa was a very memorable show in Council Bluffs..Lu and the band should have plenty of time to work the bugs out before tomorrows show..
(drive safe..tip your waitress)Memorable? Council Bluffs? Were a portable electric fan and a common four-letter Anglo-Saxon expletive involved?
Safely north-northeast of there today, Mike. . .
stogerParticipantYes, Exile and Samish, thanks. I remember now that TO has mentioned to me that they worked up that song. Quite a roster of “new” cover artists, eh? I got to get my hands on that Sonics song. Didn’t they hail from the Pacific NW, Mike? A tie-in with the former NBA franchise even?

Was a “lightning delay” when I attended last summers Tedeschi Trucks show there… made for some very tense (and wet) moments.. followed by great music and a killer Double Rainbow.
As Keith Richards (of all people) says.. when you play outdoors, God joins the band..
(He’s utilizing a rain stick this tour that so far has been quite effective 😉 )Great report as usual , Roger!
*noticed “Should I stay or Should I Go” as an option in TO’s set-list.. ever played before?? Or joke due to circumstances??TomO can answer this, but I think it’s a legit song, though originally by whom I am not sure. Given the Marley, the Sonics, and the Sister Rosetta cover work-ups, I believe this title to be in the same vein.
stogerParticipant1 Blessed [in reversal of last night’s pattern, Lu walks on first and is joined by band 30 seconds in)
2 Pineola
3 I Lost It [preceded by further Lu reflections on weather and last night’s shenanigans–Lu announces she is “comfortable” indoors in Kansas]
4 Drunken Angel [new intro content, including Lu’s time in New Orleans long back in “a shotgun apartment” and the Texas years where she “honed my craft”–going on to suggest young songwriters should do the same]
5 East Side of Town [Lu casually mentions the Americana nomination after]
6 This Old Heartache [with false start, Lu mentioning having been sick recently]
7 Compassion
8 Lake Charles [Lu says “nobody is safe” as subject matter for a song: she then stops early in song to add the “beautiful loser” aspect of the intro]
9 It’s Gonna Rain [Lu jokingly says they “forgot to play this one last night”: she praises Stuart as the link to getting Jakob Dylan to sing background on it on the record]
10 World Without Tears
11 Are You Down
12 Protection
13 Changed the Locks [Lu notes that a Big Todd fan at aftershow last night praised “the Tom Petty song you did”]
14 Out of Touch
15 Unsuffer Me
16 Righteously
17 Joy
18 Honeybee
_________
19 Magnolia
20 Have Love Will Travel [Sonics cover: LU notes after “it has stood the test of time” then frets “sorry if we are making it sound like oldies but goodies night up here”] this also features false start #3, which Lu blames on herself and laughs off]
21 Up Above My Head [framed by teachable moments about Sister Rosetta Tharpe]
22 Get Right with GodAs for vmorris’ post, it’s all true. Maybe I will elaborate later. For now, let me just suggest that you haven’t lived unless you have a cut a swath of 275 miles across the eastern Colorado, western Kansas, and central Kansas flatlands, riding high shotgun in the saddle of an eighteen wheeler steered by a California-based, India-born Sikh driver.
stogerParticipant1 Something Wicked
[Lu then makes a distinction between rain and rain w/lightning (“We might have to take a little break”]
2 Real Live Bleeding
3 Drunken Angel [during which no less a personage than David Sutton flips songbook pages, in the absence of a guitar tech within range]
[Interlude wherein Lu says “This is what ‘s called paying your dues” & “It builds character” & “I’m not ready to die on stage” & “I can’t believe how loyal y’all are. It’s very moving”]
4 Lake Charles {after which no less a personage than Lu Herself takes a towel to the songbook, sopping up accumulated moisture]
5 When I Look at the World [during which, the rain abating somewhat, I take the opportunity to dash from row 21 stage left to row 2 dead center]
6 Are You Down [featuring Lu looking skyward as she voices the first line of it]
7 Protection [before which Lu says “I think we might be ok”]
8 Changed the Locks
9 Righteously
10 BOB MARLEY COVER, “So Much Trouble in the World” I think: Lu introduces the band after as “3 guys with the power of 6” and announces that this song will be on Buick 6’s own impending album]
11 Joy
[Lu waves off the opening strains of “Get Right with God,” instead launching into. . .
12 Honeybee [during which it’s clear we are not “ok,” the rain streaming and causing the poor guitar tech to move around cleaning off instruments and even band personnel: tour manager Eric walks up to Lu during the song, apparently wanting her to stop, but no!]
13 Keep on Rockin in the Free World [Eric appeased, casually taking pictures and flashing Lu a thumbs-up]The rain had stopped by now, but Big Head Todd will have to wait until heard by me, in dry clothes if ever in future.
