So when she said “intelligent” she meant me, right, Mr. S.? 😆
The initials TG were implied, yes.
stogerParticipantGet Ess and Locks reversed, BB into sixth, Factory #11 and Dust 12 and I think you have it! What, Jersey-like fisticuffs?? missed that from the balcony, where breathing was just possible. How did you make it on floor?
Lu called West Mem a “redneck town.” She said one interviewer asked her if she believed in ghosts. She called her fans intelligent and well-read (ahem) and mentioned being able “romantic moments” in Europe, like being able to open hotel windows. Factory got long intro, fom occupying wall st. thru denying Ghost is a concept album (reporter asked her why a Jerseyite’s song was on a “southern” album) Fans sang HB after first song–and yes cake was great, brought on stage by tour man. Bailey.

LWj posted that a year ago, Professor… 😕
Ha ha, I don’t teach mathematics, Lefty, fortunately. Deft of someone just to revive last year’s stream and add to it here.

Great venue, great show, great crowd – absolutely worth the trip from Switzerland!
And a huge thanks to Lucinda for playing “Bus to Baton Rouge”, this is my favourite song!
More once I am back at home:-)Good work, Chris: I even like the Freudian slip in the next to last main set title.
Since Lu was chatty, allow me to elaborate:
After Crescent, Lu bemoans the noise her coat was making, suggesting she should have worn something else (changed the looks, in effect) “if you expect perfection up here, you,ve come to the wrong place”
Before Drunken, she allows as how she needs some duct tape up here for the coat, seguing of course into the Blaze Foley intro.
After West, Lu clarifies for MittelEuropa the distinction between Memphis, TN and West Memphis, AR.
AFter Bus, there is much talk of varying and quirky Louisiana pronunciation, with examples. She then mock apologizes for her songbook, then moves into a comparison between Louisiana gumbo and her writing styles.
WWT is sent out to the victims in Paris.
Lu worries she’s “too Pollyanna” before When I Look.
In the intro to temporary, she elaborates on the nature of the phone call with Miller which gave her this song: it was about the passing of former band member John Ciambotti.
Dust was followed bz much talk of the two Williamses (Hank and Miller) including names (John Clellan Holmes; John Ciardi; Flannery O’Connor) of writers her father knew; she then reveals her birth date to a clapping crowd.
Are You Down was followed yz band AND crew intros.
Per Unsuffer Me, Lu flashed back to Thurston Moore’s guest appearance in London; Ms. Hynde also mentioned
At end, Lu did bemoan “this curfew thing”, adding “you’ll have to come see us in a club sometimes” (which this venue had elements of anzway, with its generous standing area up front).

What an amazing show to be at. As per the night before, after a few songs it looked like it might fall apart, only for it to be wonderful. Certainly the best audience response I’ve seen for a Lu gig in London, which always helps proceedings (I’ve had 3 previous London visits for Lu).
It was 35-40 mins longer than the Dublin and London-1 shows that I went to this week, which I guess was a testament to the band wanting to keep up the enjoyment. It was a great novelty to get those guest appearances in the encores: I assume they hadn’t rehearsed the songs with the band and just winged it. My favourite bit of the encore though was the VU cover, a really lovely version, which they rocked out at the end.
The sound on the floor was, again, really clear from where I was under the right stack, which is never a given for any new venue I go to. Kudos to the Front of House guy.
I was hoping for some more of the new album, as I’d had a few days to listen to it having bought the vinyl at the Dublin show. As it’s only just out over here and not yet out Stateside, I can understand why there were only 2 songs played, which I thought sounded wonderful live.
“Greenville” was listed on the setlist as an alternative to 2 Kool, which would have been… cool, but in all it was a great set. There are just too many great songs in the catalogue ! I think my favourite bit of the night was the end of “Joy” where Lu sang the last couple of lines unaccompanied, changing the timbre. It’s those little inflections which Lu does which marks her out from the people who always sing their songs verbatim.
Seeing the list of US shows coming up, with residencies…. can we have a London residency for 4/5/6/7 nights please ? I’d happily decamp to London for that. Or my hometown of Dublin, but I know that’s asking too much !
NIce reflections. Yes; Joy was tinkered zith; but it worked well. “Greenville” would have been a surprise, but at any rate night two had more from Car wheels.
I too have seen Lu in London multiple times, including Indigo within O2 and Shepherds. The response ,ight in fact have been better here, but doubt she will be back, in spite of better overall promotion and booking for Europe now.
Covers were great though not sure wich is “VU”: was it not Hendrix; clash; neil Young; lou reed ? and truly no rehearsal; though she has been doing Unsuffer some. Chrissie and JP (side project) made a bit of a hash out of Sweet Side while opening for Lu and coming out at end in CA few years back, so this was better.

My first time back under that canvas since the turn of the century when it was the Millennium Dome. I flew over from Dublin yesterday, as one Lu show is never enough for me if there are more within reach.
The DJ must have some pedigree as he was listed on the stage times and I thought he did a great job, playing lots of my favourites. Where would you ever hear Iris Dement and Caroline Rose played in a club ?! 🙂
Despite the sonic troubles on stage, the sound from the PA was wonderful from where I was standing. I’d say it’s one of the smallest spaces I’ve seen Lu play. It’s great to hear the new songs amongst all the wonderful back catalogue tracks.
That voice, those songs, and the fantastic band… One of life’s treasures and top treats for sure. Roll on tonight, and please keep coming back to Europe as often as possible.
would love to hear your thoughts on night two, blue. yes DJ had some cred, but if you noticed his start and end times as listed were EXACTLY the times the two live bands were listed to stop or start, no transition. and he clung to that. Maybe a 5 second pause betzeen the Neil cover and dj last night.
The venue was small yes, but the kind Lu oft calls “boomy”.
stogerParticipantLet me season this with a few changes in order; Dawn, though I think you got all the songs.
1 Something Wicked
2 Cant Let Go
3 Drunken Angel
4 West Memphis
(God knows she has tried; but our lu cqnnot hold back any longer: once again, she cant “connect” with audience, says she will be playing Shepherds Bush next London visit; compqres this place to Vegas; then starts up on the poor parking and walk for artist to stage area: finally; “Quite frankly the sound isnt very good here; even though we have one of the best front house sound people traveling with us”)
5 Burning Bridges
6 2 kool 2 b 4 gotten
7 Ghosts of
8 Walk on (with Stu providing 50 percent of the “girl power”)
9 Lake Charles
10 Temporary Nature
11 Dust
12 Are You Down
13 Come On
14 Essence
15 Changed the Locks
16 Atonement (before which the name Flannery O’connor graces the O2 air)
17 Joy
18 Honeybee (Lu pauses to praise East London, though quick to exclude “this place”, for its hipness, theorizing that Keith Richards and the sex pistols once hung out in the area)19 Angel (Lu reflects on mortality; ,entioning her 100 year old paternal grandmother and hoping she has the genes to live as long)
20 Unsuffer Me (with Sonic Youth,s Thurston moore, though Lu says he is “from that band Social Dysfunction”)
21 Sweet Side (with Chrissie Hynde, though Lu says she is “from that band The Poseurs”) NOT REALLY
22 Should i stay
23 Pale blue eyes
24 Rockin in the free
Upon walk=off; Lu says “now thats what i call an encore”quite glorious; as dawn said; damn these frenchie keyboards thougha, i not in flanders? one final thing; though; ive seen Lu in so,e crappy venues, but never have i seen multiple fans leave their places to shush a pair of talking e,ployees 10=12 feet from the stage, during “lake charles”. Iron Maiden fans perhaps? Abominable.
stogerParticipantI stuck with the basic red & black color scheme up there in the balcony, Dr. Send me a private message tomorrow and we’ll touch base in London before a show maybe. Thanks everyone for reading and commenting.
stogerParticipantI’ll take your English any day, bigsubi. And though you are not traveling this month, you might want to allow some free time for that this summer. . . . Just saying.
And now to switch into a kilt for tonight’s proceedings,

Thanks Mr. S. Expository writing, I believe you call it. The record is 14 songs and a few of them are quite long so I thought I heard 2 discs. You may be right, as you usually are.
No no, I just read a review which mentioned 2 discs, so YOU, prof. G, are correct in toto as always. Couldn’t even hit “edit” before you replied to expose my gaffe. Tut tut.
