Mighty fine, tony: “Seeing Black” again, plus “Buttercup,” plus “Steal your Love” in the lead-off position. I’m sure both Republicans and Democrats enjoyed the evening.

stogerParticipantThanks, Paul. I believe Tonyg will be back tonight to swell the ranks of the Trump voters 👿

Night 1 is in the books. Good show. Not great. It didn’t really take off for me until Foolishness, which Lu belted out to much crowd appreciation. The place was packed; maybe too much. Very tight quarters and I made a mental note to myself of how I would get out in the event of a fire. My concert companion Matt said he detected a negative vibe from the crowd and from my lofty perch in the upstairs bar I did detect several skirmishes that required the attention of the usually humorless Troubadour security. It will get better.
I was pleased to be in the company of Mr. Stoger, Mr. Paul from Los Angeles, Ms. Stellabluee, and Lu bestie MIss Peggy French. I was also pleased to see forum member Cindy who is a local and attends every local show but does not post here. Post away Cindy. I was pleased to meet Mr. Jerusalem who had just flown in from his nameasake city and will attend further shows this week. Perhaps he will share his thoughts as well.
We were sorry to see that Grumpymama had to miss the show due to illness but we put her tickets to good use. I saw that many of our remote friends watched on Facebook and hope they enjoyed.
I await Mr. Stoger’s musings which will be the definitive report of the night.
You’re too kind, Tony. I’m not sure I agree re: the crowd and mood, though I’ve probably lost perspective after so many shows. I did detect one “skirmish,” but you had a crow’s eye view up top throughout. Compared to some security (e.g., Belly Up), the Troubadour guys were paragons of good cheer and mellowness.
Lu said before tune two that she would let the “songs speak” without much talk, and that prevailed. She opined that everyone was of “like mind” but no speeches would come from her this night.
The Drunken Angel intro continues to grow, as Lu tried to remember the actor Ethan Hawke has hired for the Blaze Foley movie part, but couldn’t come up with the name. I don’t remember her previously naming the one venue where Blaze often played then later slept overnight on one of its pool tables: The Austin Outhouse.
So carry on LA friends and foes, think of us working stiffs back to reality this coming week while you party down. And a shout-out to Jerusalem, unmet by me but pointed out from above by the intrepid Tony G.
stogerParticipantNever seen you “cold,” Tony. Looking forward.

There are more pictures to post but I had to dash off to the airport as I am traveling to the Bay Area with a dangerous rock and roll band. I hope to return alive and alert for Lu’s Sunday night show at the Troubadour. 8)
I’m counting on that, Tony.

Great show and the hometown Seattle fans really brought the energy in the packed house.
Lu’s mood that i previously described as a bit meloncholy in Portland was much more jubilant tonight.
She also seemed genuinely pleased by the early Happy B’Day song sung by the crowd.Great to be home after traveling by plane, train, bus, and car to hit SF, Portland and Seattle shows.
Lu commented several times during that string of shows as to how a lot of her more political songs are really becoming more relevant in the current political climate, and you could really feel it in the crowd response to songs like Walk On, East Side of Town, Foolishness et al. Grateful to have been able to make the handful of shows starting innauguration day. Also grateful to stoger for the help navigating the travel and chance to see the infamous “Drunken Angel” room he was able to snag in Portland. Very cool room and I have every intention of beating him to it when Lu plays Portland next time.. 😀Let the battle be joined, Mike. It’s not a double room. Just me representing life, Lu representing art (you can post that pic too, if you like).

Although I am 12,179 kilometers away from California, I am getting very excited from these reports on the road for the shows at the Troubadour. The image of ” Lucinda rocking back and forth floating above the ground” is a mighty powerful one indeed. Thanks for sharing!Jonathan
That’s the rough equivalent of 8,585 miles, correct Jonathan? See you night one Troubadour?

You are always worthy, my Ohio friend. Keep following us vicariously.

It was a fun show. Slow moody start, other than song 2,which I liked. Lucinda was in very fine voice and the band was sharp. The Lobero is a good venue for Lu. Charles Lloyd killed it in the songs he joined in on. Doug and Stuart provided an exciting dual guitar attack. Excellent versions of Ghosts and Foolishness.
I was pleased, if not flabbergasted, to be in the presence of the Road Warrior himself, Mr. Stoger. He has promised to give us his remarks and observations shortly before he heads north. I look forward to the Troubadour shows.
Why thank you, Tomby. Oh, that was tonyg himself, distinct identity from TomO!!! Good to see you too bro, though for me Troubadour will be show singular, not plural, my last of tour. And what’s wrong with slow moody (not to mention peace love and understanding)???
The Clyde Woodward legend just grows. The man was cremated, and jewelry was made of his bones. Think I’m kidding? That “Lake Charles” intro was off the map.
The guitar Lu strapped on for “Doors,” made by James B, was called “heavy as fuck” by our frontwoman. She pounded it out, even so.
I was reduced to a snivelling heap during “Copenhagen.” Really. I could scarce concentrate during “Fruits.” As David Sutton recently said, “Why don’t we play that one more?”
Big Doug, father of three, laying down great work on those three songs. Now some of us would hesitate before taking a shotgun seat in the vehicle of TonyG, but Pettibone is a brave man. Let’s give tony credit for chauffeur duty last night too. The oxnard-ventura-simi valley express as it were.
Charles Lloyd. A man who touches elbows rather than shake hands. Some may have seen him recently on the PBS news hour, interviewed by Geoffrey Brown–though I think it was taped way back last spring. I haltingly congratulated him on his recent induction into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. What a gracious spirit.
The Lobrero may indeed be a fine venue for Lu, though I was surprised that it was all sit-down. Whatever issues I had with some folks around me need not be articulated here. Great night.

Note to stoger: I attended the Santa Ana show, and I can confirm that ALT has a band, a very loud band. Also, both Belly Up shows are being streamed live on Facebook. You can see Monday’s show in about 4 hours (9 PM PST) from this post.
Facebook or live? That’s a tough call for me, Paul. I’ll think about it in the next few hours.
So if you cyberwatched last night, Paul, can you give us some highlights?
Not every opener can be a mellow Sera Cahoone w/band or solo acoustic like several from the past. But you are consistent in your comments about Lu-openers and their sonic level, Paul.
stogerParticipantFine stuff. I need to be reminded who wrote “Jesus Just Left Chicago”–drawing a blank. Good to see “Bitter Memory” in the proceedings. And if Tom/tony (these two gents are melding into one profile for me) has time to post Belly Up I today, we’ll be caught up for tonight. I would bet ALT is tearing it up by way of opener, even maybe without a band?
stogerParticipantHoly shit! Almost worth missing the first few days of fall semester for! May the tour build BEFORE these dates rather than after!
stogerParticipantOhmy. Only because Rhett Miller and them are homeboys do they get top billing, but my God what a day!
