stogerParticipant
Don’t forget your 48-hour window, vm. Are we thinking “Bitter Memory” for Dwight? Least he could do is acknowledge the “LSD” tour from a few summers back, though the first two acts of that bill were the real killers.
stogerParticipantYe bags of bones, perk up and stand, whether in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills or in the Crescent City. That said, I myself will be seated in front of a computer for the tribute–and likely upstairs seated if I make New Orleans. Three months from now, I will be no younger (as the man said).
stogerParticipantAnd there’s a pretty straight line from Lu’s character “Memphis Pearl” to the Mandeville-living “Mama.” Unfortunately, some of the Big Black Train syndrome rubbed off, too much I’m afraid.
stogerParticipantGood catch, v. I am not familiar with the venue name, hope it’s not a gussied-up New Orleans Civic Auditorium (though I did once see Lu open for Dylan there). Why not HOB again? Anyway, the spring is turning our way, this one fairly hard on the heels of the MA/NY make-up run. Is she also playing the Fest proper, any word? And yes, fine memory of last year, though you don’t have the advantage of Amtrak Train 58, straight from Memphis to NOL.
stogerParticipantStill, duct tape worn over a tuxedo should impress the TRUE Lu fans in the entourage.
stogerParticipantWow, I’ll take three of those hearts and raise you an acoustic guitar, Tony–despite being an Aries myself. Nice pic.
stogerParticipantHa, probably more a matter of others performing for LU, though I remain as “opaque” about it here in the American South as you probably do in New England, Sean. The west coast contingent should be able to tell us more. And kudos to tonyg for planning a Blaze Foley imitation and joining the performers. If you can’t get in on the audience portion of the house, join the artist ranks, I’d say. The man has a torso, to be sure.
stogerParticipantYeah, an Americana thing it was, as I had heard. You three deserve entry though. Jed Hilly and his dues-payers triumph again. But use whatever means you have to crash it. Good luck.
stogerParticipantIt’s been a long vicarious run. Where’s the cake in the visual? I believe David plays upright on “Blue,” else that pic would be perfect. Any last comments from European friends John or Dr. Winston? Let’s don’t let the crickets take over here for too long.
stogerParticipantWhat, vmorris back on the Forum? Heavens. Never seen an episode of True Detective, though those Lu-songs do tend to pop up. True Blood for the duo with Elvis, anyone? To my shame, I watched every prior episode of the ABC nighttime soap Nashville just to find where Connie Britten croons that Dan Auerbach-produced “country” tune “Bitter Memory.” Sheesh.
Setlist looks standard, but Belfast will go out with a Birthday bang I bet.
stogerParticipantThanks Dr.–and who knew Doug was also an Aquarian? [Well, Tony knew I’m sure, but I didn’t] I guess the Lu Big Day is in Belfast rather than Dublin; I look forward to reports on both.
stogerParticipant“Opaque” indeed, Paul, but glad you west coast boys are likely to find a way to show. Not so secret an event after all, eh Tony? I believe there is to be a specific award presented to our Lu, though the word “salute” stops a bit shy of that. Good luck to you both!
stogerParticipantHa ha, Tony and the “mystery” source bypass both Mr. Overby and our loyal doctor in getting the setlist first: well done, keymaster.
Dr., I know you loved it, and I too have faced hasty transport issues (and lack of laptop) regarding my not always timely reports. Take your time, and we look forward to your eventual words here.
Big Day coinciding with the Dublin show, eh all?
stogerParticipantMe neither, tony, but let’s head north up your coast together!
stogerParticipantAh, Manchester England England, across the Atlantic Sea. A wee bit of Scotch + Gaelic X 2 and this thing will be done. I’m following vicariously still; thanks to all for the reportage.
