What’s this, mayoral hugs? Ah, Lucinda. Paul, you capture the vibe well–sounds like Doug more than atoned on “Rarity” for any missteps the previous show. “Steal Your Love” sneaked in there too? My my. Hopefully, there was a fan on stage which was blowing on Lucinda, yet indirectly. Sorry to have missed such a perspiration-drenched evening, but I was back home doing my job: probably not as well as Butch Norton, but trying. Did Lucinda hang out at the adjacent bar afterwards? I’ve got to work things so I can make these tour finales–not the Ramshead of yore maybe, but plenty sweet. . .

I have to disagree with howa. From where I sat in the 4th row, I heard enthusiastic applause from an electrified crowd. I thought Lucinda and her band put on an outstanding show. I anticipated a low-key, mellow Sacramento crowd and was worried that Lucinda would get a bad vibe and play accordingly. She really seemed to enjoy herself. I thought her new songs were outstanding and well-received.

She really seemed to enjoy herself until Rarity fell apart. The crowd tried to encourage her, but she got really angry, saying, “Welcome to our rehearsal,” and scowled her way through the last 2 songs.

Besides her new tunes, I really liked hearing Crescent City, (dedicated to the people of New Orleans) Ventura, and Concrete and Barbed Wire.

Thanks illbeyou for actually posting a setlist in the midst of all this. Too bad “Rarity” didn’t come good; though Lucinda was probably on target to call it a “rehearsal,” the band has played it live before, albeit awhile back, certainly not on this tour. I envy (along with the wind of course) your getting to hear “If Wishes Were Horses” live, in full. Those three you mention in your last paragraph are tour debuts I think, plus three or so others.

Anybody make Bend? Could the Arcata poster reconstruct the setlist, maybe partially at least?

Sayonara after Spokane, Lefty, though I would have loved to trip the metropolises of Bend and Aracata too. Someone else will have to pick up the ball from here. Spokane was essentially the same setlist as Seattle, a free show, great vibe. It’s a joy to be able to do this.

Many happy returns as regards the marriage, PSweets–I envision the strains of the Neil Young cover in the background the moment you actually popped the question, and hope yours is a Cinammon Girl for the rest of your life.

Thanks, Lefty: as Paul pointed out, it was a pretty easy task to transpose and repaste the San Diego list for Saratoga night. I damn near hollered out “Overtime” at a certain point just to see if we couldn’t have 100% identical setlists, but restrained myself.

“Disgusted” is a Li’l Son Jackson tune.

It’s hot as hell in southern Oregon. I’ll try to post.

Thanks, Lafayette, though our Lu is outnumbered some 4:1 by pics of that OTHER guy 🙂 . This brought back mems of last August, especially the rockface in background of that one picture.

Thanks wgordon for these good notes. Did Lucinda abandon “Fruits of My Labor” and do “Right in Time” instead (maybe you just decided to put them on the same line)? Did you put “sic” after 2 Kool. . . because of a misspelling or because she started it over, or just what? These may seem minor, except to Luheads. . . .

Anybody make it to Red Rocks?

Damn, TN Tracy, I’m pretty sure now that you were the guy near the buses when “paulfromlosangeles” and I left the [Lu-less] “aftershow” and asked directions to Piedmont Ave. Both of us have gotten to meet Tom and Lu before, so no problem there, but I wish I had paused to chat with you and your wife. I’m happy your wait was rewarded. We were two “rows” in front of you during the show, a bit to your left sounds like. Thanks for adding to this, and I second your thoughts on Lucinda’s actions and words.

“I’ll be yours/Lafayette”–regardless of gender. Thanks for posting all this. And hopefully you’ll be going on the road a bit for some Lu headliners after the Mellencamp run ends in early August?

It’s good to hear all these reports; being stared down because one is “alone” at a Lu show should be worn for what it is, a badge of honor! But I know what you mean. And the idea that “Lafayette” would temporarily give up his front-row perch for part of Lu’s set to mill around and find a fellow Lu fan–that’s altruism for you. Not sure I would have done the same, but it’s heartening to hear that. . . .

Thanks, Lafayette, for this link and for your comments about Lucinda and the crowd in Michigan. Will we be hearing from you after the Cincinnati show as well?

Thanks, Phil–and I love the suffix on your Forum name. I may cross the pond again if Lu ends up there on the next tour. Glad you avoided the taxicab queue, and hope you’ll check in on the Forum here again from time to time; feel free to e-mail me via the Forum also. You have my undying respect for forsaking a major league baseball game for Lu, even if at scalper prices.

Thanks, Tim. I’ll take a “minor” meltdown anyday over some of the [major?] ones of yore, though I can’t say I’ve witnessed the low end. That cough syrup anecdote is priceless, and the bee in Doug’s shirt vs. the choking on a bug by Lu issue tops it all. I agree partially with you on the number of new songs per set, though since she’s mainly opening these tour dates, with limited time, I certainly understand her wanting to trot out a half dozen or so new ones in a full (which can mean anywhere from 15-25 songs) set. Looking forward to Atlanta in this regard.

And yes, where is our west coast blanket guy to give us an up close and personal report?

Tim, join the chorus on the Lowell show, please. It sounds like it was a unique night.

That’s cool that you discovered Lucinda via Mellencamp’s cover choice, then took it on as your user name. Yes, some have been unhappy over this tour pairing, but it seems to be going well. Keep us in the loop.

Thanks for the comments. It’s hard to believe John Cougar Mellencamp himself is orchestrating whether his opener does eleven songs or twelve, but that’s a charming Lu anecdote from the wings. And I discovered The New York Dolls via a Lu performance t-shirt, so that Ramones-wear strikes a chord with me.
