Today’s ham sandwich is that yes, it’s true –the Mpls show will include an interlude of matrimonial shenanigans. I attempted to get in here yesterday and fill in the details of how this whole sordid affair happened- but ran out of time as the bride to be got hungry. So until I can finish that I would like to say that if anyone in here would like to attend please PM me directly.
“matrimonial shenanigans” indeed–will the clergyman wait until the last strains of the main set (“Joy”?) fade away before making an appearance, or will he stride on during? I mean, what possible tune could kick off such an encore as this, post-nuptials? We’ll see. All heartfelt congrats to you both, and keep that bride well fed.
stogerParticipantBut Paul, do they “dress” [nominally] in orange and white at that Irish joint? OK, OK, proximity trumps staff attire. Maybe.
stogerParticipantA member of this Forum mentioned a Hooter’s franchise nearby, with perhaps a b’s-eye view of the line outside the venue. Any interested gents?
stogerParticipantNot to mention Reno (that’s the “day before” I guess), bigsubi: who ventured to the gigs? Must we wait on Sir Overby for a report/setlist (an “objective” one, as it were)? How’s about some SUBjective thoughts on the crowds, the songs, the moods, the . . . ?
stogerParticipantI’m your man for this one, bigsubi!

I just noticed at TicketBastard that, for the Chicago shows, under “Please Note…” that they are identifying these shows as “A FULL HOUSE AND A ROCK N ROLL BAND 30TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR”, quoting Passionate Kisses. Since I doubt that they would be assigning a name to the tour themselves, I assume this is the “official” tour name. It’s very cool & I, for one, like it!
Tom
Yes, TN Tracy, I remember now that T Overby mentioned that phrase to a few fans after one of the shows awhile back, kind of soliciting feedback for a 30th anniversary theme. I forgot about it, but the one he stuck with is indeed “cool,” yes.
stogerParticipantThanks for the scoop on the NYC shows, Paul and TN Tracy especially. I just browsed the Live Nation site, as someone who can make 2 shows but not 3. I come out a bit “ahead” by purchasing the two individually, though I chafe at 12 dollars 50 cents in fees on a single 39 buck ticket (x 2 nights). These are Atlanta-Tabernacle-like percentages, no, the very phenomenon that got Lu and Tom riled to start with? A relatively modest 17 bucks in fees obtains if one tries to purchase a 99 dollar pass, right? As much as I appreciate Lu’s and Tom’s efforts to speak up from the stage and give back in merch, it appears as if nothing much has changed in overall live nation policy. And I couldn’t sign in using my ticketmaster password and user name, which pisses me off further in light of this merger.
Paul, what’s the deal on Wednesday fees-free? Should I wait? Five days may mean sell-out.
Tom, yes you got screwed but at least you’re confirmed to head up that way, right?
I may just sit on it for a few hours (or days). Advice, anyone?

Any idea where the show is in Mpls? Or when tickets might be available? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I don’t think it has been officially announced as of yet, but I do believe it will be at First Avenue…
Tom
Well, I do believe you are correct here, TN Tracy. Let’s see what other details might be forthcoming in future days. . . .

I said earlier, perfection, and the perfect day started off well, when we met fellow GreasyLaker (Springsteen fan site), and also big Lucinda fan, Graham for a beer in town before the concert.
Buick 6 on stage at 19:30, ,perfect timing as we just sat down as they started, and really enjoyed their set, which went down well, and the boys seemed to be enjoying themselves also, finished approx. 20:15.
Then Lucinda and the boys took to the stage at 20:45 :-
1) Just Wanna See You So Bad
2) Big Red Sun Blues
3) People Talkin` (after which Lucinda compliments the sound quality)
4) Well Well Well
5) (A Word for Chet) Side of the Road
6) (Compliments and names sound crew for all their hard work, then thanks Wille Nelson for his cover of)
Overtime
7) Something About Happens When We Talk
8) (Relates the story of who the song is about)
Drunken Angel
9) Metal Firecracker (Then mentions the North/South divide, more of which later)
10) Out Of Touch
11) Tears Of Joy
12) Changed The Locks
13) Essence
14) Honey Bee (Then introduses The Band, Chet,Eric,David and a we are not worthy bow to Butch)
15) JoyLeft stage to a standing ovation, and the whole venue clamouring for and demanding more.
Came back on stage in about 5 Mins, at the start of the night someone in the front rows had asked Lu to play Lafayette.
16) (Lu states a request from earlier) Lafayette
17) Get Right With GodAnother ovation, and the crowd were not going to accept the end right there.
18) Motherless Children
19) (Before they started Lu said “We always finish with this one”)
It`s A Long Wat To The Top.Unfortunately we knew it was over then , but not without the crowd showing how much it had been appreciated.
Athough it was over, this perfect night was just beginning, went outside after and about a dozen fans were waiting beside the tour bus for Lucinda, stood around chatting with Graham for about half an hour, he then left and we decided to catch last orders in one of the local hostelries, after which I siad lets go back to the venue and see if Lucinda has left yet.
Got back down there and the trucks and bus were still on site, with two American geltlemen standing chatting, went round the other side of the bus to join the rest of the people queuing, but instinct told me to keep checking at both side os the bus, about ten minutes later a third gent had arrived there and on seeing me he said, in an American accent, that Lucinda should be out in about five minutes, checked again in about two minutes and the same person said she would be out in a couple of minutes, it was at this point that my instinct and desire to make the most of the situation kicked in, and I said out of the blue “You must be Tom are you”, and he looked very surprised at first the said sure I am, so I introduced myself and he came over and gave me a very welcoming handshake. the introduced his two friends who were Paul and here I am truly sorry as I cannot for the life of me remeber the name of the second person was, if you read this please put me out of my pain by letting me know.
We all chatted for a while with Tom saying how much they had enjoyed Scotland and how they would love to come back soon, Lucinda alluded to this when she finished Metal Firecracker she told everyone this was great and she felt invigorated as the USA and the UK were similar but in reverse,i.e. the USA gets better the further Sourth you go and the UK gets better the further North you go, such a perceptive woman, and Tom did say the he reckoned that the show was one of the top three of the tour.
Very soon after Lucinda finally appeared at the bus and after a quit5e word from Tom, there she was headed my way, I through caution to the wind, and my jacket to the ground, and as she approached I threw my arms wide open and she obliged me with the tightest and warmest hug I could wish for, which was of course returned with intertest, at that point in time Lucinda was mine and I was never going to give her up, however a quick glimpse up and there was Tom a few yards away, so respectfully I had to give up my dream and my hold on Lucinda, at this point she was just so engaging and could not do enough for us with autographs and photographs etc. with me probably babbling inanely.
We had a wonderous few minutes with Lucinda, during which another couple Martin and Lesley had joined us, and Martin was as big a Lu fan as myself, so our moment was over and it was time for the others to share.
Lu spent several minutes doing all that was asked of her the she moved to the tour bus, I blew her a kiss as she disappeared inside, and all too soon she was gone into the night.
We sttod and talked for a while with Martin and Lesley the we each went our own ways, the last bus for us had long gone so it was searh for a taxi tiime, and this perfect night took another perfect twist when we rounded the corner from the venue to encounter a taxi dropping off a fare and yes it was free, so back to the hotel within ten minutes, straight to the bar to order a cold beer when who appeared, no not Lucinda, but Martin and Lesley, they were staying at the same hotel!!! Yeah we all had beer and sat talking about all things Lucinda until the porter closed the bar…perfect
So it was off to bed to sleep prechance to dream..the perfect end to the perfect day.Not too much said about the concert I know, but it was ALL great, althouh for various reasons my personal favs wer, People Talkin` ( always loved it and Lucinda was really into it tonight ), Overtime ( had a tear in my eye for that one ) and Out Of Touch ( again always loved this one and it was interesting to hear it live without Doug ).
Hope this has not been too much of a rant, but I just HAD to tell someone…
Finally thanks to Lucinda, the boys of the band and everyome else who made this possible,
and a special thanks to Tom for his ever so friendy welcome that night.Love and Peace to you both.
As the other American gentleman, I’m happy to put you out of your pain by acknowledging you here, Dr. WO. Great seeing you in Perth, too bad we couldn’t chat more. Paul, Tom and I were all pleasantly surprised to match the name and the face. Your enthusiasm is appreciated. Best, “stoger”/Roger

I was at this show – my first from LW. One of the best shows I think I’ve ever seen, I think.
It wasn’t what I was expecting, I must admit, having mentally prepared myself for something more acoustically biased & contemplative, but hey, if you have the staff to do a set like that (as it were), then why not?!
I’m only sorry that I couldn’t stay til the end at Cambridge last night – after reading the earlier threads about how central the interaction with the audience seems to be to the success of LW shows, it would have been interesting to see what she and that audience made of one another.
I suspect she’ll have gone down a storm with this set in a way that she perhaps wouldn’t have done with a more acoustically-based performance in front of a crowd who will have been flagging on the final night.
Cheers,
BFB
So did you see any of Lu’s Cambridge set, Bonefish? Setlist anyone?
stogerParticipantYes, Paul, the pound for ten minutes Heathrow internet terminals are handy. And Bigsubi, pleasure meeting you too: bon nit Barcelona, if I have that right.

In addition to the St. Louis show Lafayette discovered at HRT & the Milwaukee show Disco Stu posted about, one other new show has been slipped into the schedule between San Francisco & Greensboro, NC in Bloomington, IN (2 hour 45 minute drive, eh. Lafayette? 😉 )[
Oh WOW! You have no idea, tnt, on this show in Bloomington, IN at the Bluebird! This is a club where Mr. Mellencamp (his adopted hometown) would drop in for impromptu shows. One infamous show, Lou Reed was scheduled to play Farm Aid. He was in Bloomington with JM, and they stopped in The Bluebird, unnannounced, to practice. I have seen several accounts from people that happened to be there, saying it was the best show they have ever witnessed.
I am so going to this show, hopefully bringing along some JM fans (from surrounding area) with me! I’ve been going back and forth on the Chicago and St. Louis shows, still trying to decide and still may go to those, but at some point I need to squeeze in some surgery that will have me down and out in paradise for 4 – 6 weeks. Tentatively, I was planning the surgery for first week in September, but this show changes the game plan!
TO, if Lu is up for it and interested, you should schedule a visit to John’s studio, very close to The Bluebird, as I’m sure you know, or take her to Little Nashville to shop 🙂 . I’m ready to help with doing street team duties to advertise the show. I have posters left over from her Covington show and have friends that live in Bloomington. I will enlist their help to hang them around Btown and hopefully at IU as well.
I am STOKED!
Surgery? Surgery? Surely, Lafayette, this could be deferred except in life-threatening situations (and perhaps even then), in the name of Lu. Can’t do Bloomington midweek, but fall break comes nicely for two Chicagos and the St. Louis. So light out for that terrritory, and see you then, there!
stogerParticipantWell fellas, I believe my actual quote was “piercing my spine,” though bag/back works fine, think I had my backpack with me that evening (early morning) actually. A species of local flora was my leaning spot, and its bark did some minor damage to my dorsal side, but all is well a fortnight later. Thanks for the anatomical and linguistic concern you three!
stogerParticipantPaul, you sly dog: you must have circled back to the Big Pink bus area after you lost me, as no “partially attired young women” materialized in my late evening at all. A dilemma indeed it would have been, though what does the Stephen Stills song advise us on this matter? Gentleman’s club? Hmh. I settled for a drink at the Monroe Guesthouse bar, my humble abode, 3 photos of Marilyn in my room alone. Scant temptation there.
Butts, good comments, yes–“Memphis Pearl” was a bit rough out of the gate. Songs two three and four are, along with “Crescent City” and “If Wishes Were Horses,” my favorite ones for Lu to play live, so what a joy. It took her a few moments to be convinced that she doesn’t play guitar on “I Just Wanted to See you so Bad.” Ray Lamontagne was mentioned in front of “Fruits,” and what a surprise to hear “Metal Firecracker” just when the standard rocker portion of the set seemed to have kicked in. She reflected a lot on her eclectic roots prior to that song. In front of “Bleeding fingers” she acknowledged her guitar maker, James Broussard (sp?) from France, now living in LA. The last four songs comprised two and two, single and double encore, “Bus” and “Overtime” by request.
Paul, I’m catching a train out of Manchester EnglandEngland soon, so I’ll see you at a certain gentleman’s club in Scotland.
stogerParticipantGood summary Paul, good to hear from Bigsubi too. It’s Frank Stanford, but no big deal. And what she also said in front of “Pineola” was that the owner of the Assembly Leamington Spa owns Tammy Wynette’s former trailer, installed on site!
