After many complications we have finally confirmed the rest of the August shows. I am also thrilled to be able to say that we will have JP, Chrissie and the Fairground Boys opening on some of the shows. This is Chrissie Hynde’s new side project that she is very excited about.
I am also happy to be able to add that only the Saratoga show is a Live Nation show, which should keep the additional fees down:Afraid not, Tom, with all due respect, on the “additional fees” issue. Paul, you’re right about availability for Ventura this weekend. Here it is:
39.50 base
2.50 facility charge
10.55 convenience charge
_____
52.55 “subtotal”But I’m not done. Ticketmaster then asked for my account info and password, then:
4.40 order processing fee
4.00 standard mail feeI’ve NEVER been asked to pay the last item with Ticketmaster, and there’s no will call option. I don’t think I’ve been asked to pay the order processing fee ever either.
So there you have it: 60.95 total on a base ticket of under forty bucks. I leave it to others, engineers perhaps, to do the computation and the exact percentage mark-up. I know this is out of your control, Tom, but it’s discouraging in light of past efforts to fight this issue and Lucinda’s outspoken comments from the stage concerning it. I’m afraid even deep Susannah-administered merch discounts will go only so far in appeasing fans here.
Think I’ll take a little something down off the shelf, maybe something sour, and ponder before committing.

I read somewhere, the latest Gram Parsons bio I think, that McGuinn changed his first name due to some kind of mystical Eastern religious connotation in “Roger,” but I doubt my Baptist parents had that in mind in the era of my nativity. Greetings yourself: Miss your name on the moderator line, but that tntracy guy seems to know his way around the job pretty well.
stogerParticipantNot ROGER McGuinn?
stogerParticipantMany benefit concerts for flood victims in Nashville these days, yes David. Lafayette, can’t believe your choice in entertainment for the evening: Ha! Yes, Billy Block made a big deal of the show being streamed live, which might be the case every Tuesday. The show will shift from 12th & Porter to a venue called the Tin (Ten?) Something soon. Vaughan worked his magic, though Sara Petite got only seven or so songs in. The appearance of Anne McCue as the lone side[wo]man for Jill King later in the evening was even more welcome. 12th & Porter has gone through a lot of permutations since the days of Allison Moorer recording her DVD there and the likes of Chuck Prophet gracing the main room, but it’s on its way back. Rumor has it it was one of the likeliest clubs for a Lu-spotting when she lived in middle TN.
stogerParticipantThanks, Tom, for the scoop. You managed to hide the gender of the “other artist” while at the same time not violating any of the grammatical rules of noun/pronoun agreement–quite a feat, in my book. Once saw Tedeschi and Lu on a kind of one-off co-bill a la this Keen thing–hot as hell in suburban Philly that summer, wasn’t it Rhon? As for the heir to the Pettibone-Schermerhorn lineage, perhaps Grant Lee-Phillips is once again in the mix? Speaking of said lineage, I will see current Fabulous Superlative Kenny Vaughan tonight at Nashville’s 12th & Porter, backing Sara Petite. . .
stogerParticipantYes, Paul, I’ve examined them from a Southern/Eastern perspective too–and three-figure prices reign for both Nashville Ryman and Atlanta Fox. Not even the prospect of encountering former Lu audio whiz Mark Humphries around Neil’s sound board will be enough to get me out for Mr. Young solo acoustic, I’m afraid. As for Winery and No Depression fest, yessir.

Missed seeing you on here Stoger. I’m happy Lu is announcing shows…a) something to hang our hat on for the fall b) we’re blessed by your presence.
Let’s hope the Lu show announcements continue
Thanks, Lafayette; I’m back in full force. Let’s hope some fall shows cluster around weekends–including in the Buckeye State. Keep rockin’. . .
stogerParticipantYes, but there’s erstwhile Lu opening acts Alejandro Escovedo and Chuck Prophet that day too, provided one arrives in the afternoon. Four full days before I have to be back at work, and I may be on the west coast (Saratoga) anyway, hmh……
stogerParticipantPassword is “music” for Saratoga presale, within the hour.

This morning, the Mountain Winery announced its summer concert series. Lucinda Williams is listed as the performer for Wednesday evening, August 18, with special guest, Robert Earl Keen, starting at 7:30 PM. The Mountain Winery is an outdoor, reserved seat venue, in the foothills of Saratoga, California, near San Jose.
You can verify this listing from the Mountain Winery or Live Nation websites.
Note that the “yelp” reviews of the Mountain Winery have some very negative comments regarding this facility. Parking is now $15 for carpools, $20 without a carpool. There is an extremely strict music curfew at 10:30 PM, with plugs being pulled on famous performers. There is a 20 minute intermission between acts: do the math, and don’t expect a Lucinda marathon. Also, be prepared for a tedious drive on a winding road, entering and exiting.
Yo Paul, do you think that together we would constitute a “carpool?” I’d be willing to go seven and a half bucks to sit on your Passenger Side [early Wilco reference for David-in-M] while you navigate those torturous winding roads upward. Yeah, it’s a drag. I’ve rented cars out of both Oakland and San Jose for this venue; there’s no avoiding it to get to Saratoga. Nary a hotel within striking distance either–four-star or otherwise. Saratoga Village does have a youth hostel, doubt we’re eligible there though. At any rate, here’s to High Road for starting the ball rolling. . . .
stogerParticipantPoint and shoot, indeed: she was seated next to me, but fortunately kept the lens trained straight ahead on the stage rather than laterally. You go Lafayette!
stogerParticipantAnd it might be worth adding that in the “Artists’ Picks” series marketed through Starbucks some years back, both an Anne McCue song (“These Things”) and a Leonard Cohen song (the one about the raincoat) appear on the disc selected by Lucinda.
stogerParticipantThanks to all for your thanks–and that Plain Dealer article someone put the link to in the other stream is worth reading as well, for a fuller view of the evening. The response posts aren’t as edifying, however, in some cases.
stogerParticipantDon’t know the answer to that, but Lu’s “protege” Anne McCue saw Cohen (he’s mentioned by name in Anne’s great song “Stupid,” which is on some Americana samplers and a Folk compilation series, as well as on her record Roll) the other week in Nashville and was bowled over. Anne noted a caveat, however: “Nashville was the only city on the tour where the show did not sell out.”

Well, this current state of affairs over at High Road Touring is indeed sad:
MELANCHOLY INDEED, TOM: YOU’D MAKE A GOOD POWER-POINT LECTURER, WHAT WITH THAT RED CIRCLING/HIGHLIGHTING COMING OFF YOUR WAND OR CUE OR WHATEVER. AS FOR FEBRUARY, THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR MIGHT AS WELL EXTEND INTO YEAR 31, NO? “COME OUT WEST AND SEE.” MY SOURCE IS GOOD, BUT I THINK NOTHING IS TOO DEFINITE YET.
But, if it means Lu is in the studio making a new album, I can live with that!
Tom
