A New Orleans source tells me Jazz Fest has Thursday music only the second of the two weekends, and it is usually designated for more local/regional acts (in the best sense of those terms). I do believe 2011 qualifies!

I assume you both bought tickets for night one only. If I want to attend night 2 as well I could snag Row D for Saturday.( single tickets are more plentiful).
In the basement hall that rugles mentioned the merch. table is there. Maybe Susannah (with an h) will be there to sell us the super deluxe “Blessed” set.
Should be a great show. Levon is 70 years young-Maybe I’ve seen him before in concert-way back when he was the drummer for Ronnie Hawkings and the Hawks in the early 60’s.

LW, I was afraid for a minute that the back of my head on my 6’3″ inch frame might block you, but I’m actually 15 (aisle) on F, so no worries. Saturday night looks probable too. Maybe we’ll get “Sweet, Sweet Love” one of those nights. . . .

I just caught a show last night with Ben Sollee (http://www.bensollee.com) and think he would be a great opening act for Lucinda. The man rocks the cello (seriously) and can sing it all. Lucinda has introduced me to some great musicians in her opening acts (Carrie Rodriguez, Anne McCue, etc. — but not Robert Earl Keen, who stole some of her time this last August at Saratoga Mountain Winery; yes, I’m still bitter about that one) and I can really see Ben Sollee touring with her. Also, Ben’s advocacy on behalf of Appalachia (http://www.ilovemountains.org) would seem to fit nicely with some of Lucinda’s. Regardlesss, I can’t wait for her next tour! (p.s. I have no association with Mr. Sollee and only became aware of his music and talent last night at a show in Chapel Hill.)

Not to be confused with former Lu band member Rolly Sallee (sp?) I assume, vm: Thanks for the info! I think “stole some. . . time” may be a bit harsh for Keen in Saratoga, as his band walked out right at ticket time and went about its business–true, openers seldom have any encores at all, but “The Man Behind the Drums” now looks like a prophetic choice in light of Lu opening for Levon coming up. For true time-stealing, we can talk about the Flatlanders in Santa Fe some months back in front of Lucinda. . . . Even so, I believe both of these one-off pairings were reschedulings/combos of changed or cancelled shows (on Flatlanders’ part and Keen’s part). This might account for it a bit. And as a native son of Appalachia, you have me interested in BS’s “advocacy.”

Shades of her appearance there a couple of Januarys ago to sit in with The North Mississippi All-Stars: historic venue indeed! Thanks for ferreting this out, lwj. I’ve never seen OTR live but was introduced to them by a Lu fan a few years ago. Here’s to spousal duos–and their guests!

Facebook update has album being released in Feb now? BTW…loved the sentiment behind the post.

Well we all know Lucinda has been quoted as a perfectionist umpteen times, so whether the release date has been pushed out from 1/11/11 to February now, it’ll be worth it to have another superior quality album in due course.
Besides, thanks to West Words and others,we have most of the new songs on You Tube to tide us over.

p.s. Seems more news is being released via FB now rather than in the Friendly Forum.

DOES THIS MEAN WE’LL HAVE TO COME OUT OF OUR CAVE, LWJETTA? AT LEAST YOU’RE A MEMBER, RIGHT? MUST I JOIN UP?

Except I’m not going. Sorry if I indicated otherwise. I think our best chance for a report will be from West Words.

As I understand it, “west words” was attending the Sunday proceedings, but not Saturday/Lu? Is this possible?

Well, one man’s “mediocre outing” is no doubt another’s six-song bonanza after too long a layoff: Sorry I wasn’t there. Any bets on the name of the “aide” who rescued rolling and tumbling pages and affixed them back inside the Lyric Book? One imagines John/Flappy of yore, but I suspect it might have come from a more upper managerial level this gig.

Finally, I recommend “. . . keep forgetting about Facebook” as a general life policy, lwjetta!

Well, David, I am pleading because I wrote the article (at bigsubi’s request) for Popular I; I understand it is now being translated into Spanish. I just thought visuals would augment the article, as is bigsubi’s thinking. I certainly didn’t mean for this to be a dig at Lucinda’s present management team: Self-interest on my part if anything, seeing it in print en espanol, with pics!
