Craig Amason rocks, and I’ve spoken vaguely to him about this possibility, sugar. Heaven on earth (but maybe book it in a month other than July?)

I keep checking YouTube, but so far no uploads from the Macon show. What I wouldn’t give to relive a few choice moments! “Not My Cross to Bear” comes to mind, but really this was one of the best Lucinda shows I’ve ever seen, so to hit “replay” on any of it would be a treat.
I’ll also be keeping an eye out for more shows at the Cox Capitol. It’s an incredible and intimate venue, a welcome addition to central Georgia. Thanks for playing here, Lucinda!
You said it, su. . .:keep us cyber-shy types informed of any YouTube morsels and we’ll come out of the cave and link right up.
Marty Stuart and The Fabulous Superlatives was an impressive announcement by way of a future Cox show. Likely, former Lucinda guitarist Kenny Vaughn will be on stage for that one.
As for “central Georgia” venues, how about Lucinda herself on the grounds of Andalusia, Flannery O’Connor’s former home in Milledgeville? In light of Lu having mentioned “chasing peacocks” round that farmhouse as a child, I say bring her back lo these decades later for an Andalusia fundraiser!
stogerParticipantAs you know from meeting me in Ontario, lwj, I completely fit the blogger’s prototype in characterizing the Raleigh audience here: a sophisticated, Subaru-driving, Hawaiian-shirt-donning, Whole Food-shoppin’ kind of guy. The blogger must have forgotten the high-end wine goblets some of us had spread out on our designer tablecloths.
At least now I can connect the dots on the yuppie voices yelling out intrusive song requests. . .
stogerParticipantSpot-on comments, MH: though I wasn’t there, your thoughts make a lot of sense in light of the pattern this tour. Good to hear of your venturing outside the Great Midwest for this show.

Thanks for the feedback. I enjoyed reading other folks’ reports, so I thought I’d share as best as I could.
Stoger adds some nice details. (But if you want to see the Old Confederacy personified, you need to drive down Monument Avenue…Lee…Jackson…they’re all there, literally larger than life.)
I’m guessing punchdrunk’s comment refers to the fact that these songs aren’t done often? (Here’s where my “casual fan” status leaves me ill-informed.) Funny you should pick those out because I thought Steal Your Love was one of the two or three best songs of the night. Great delivery from Lu, followed with Blake and Butch feeding off each other bringing the song to a crescendo.
Now what’s this about the show being filmed???
I’m guessing that final Macon show, especially, will be awesome. Enjoy.
Yes, the show was filmed by a production company whose name we might be hearing more of in the future (and we recognize from the album allusion now). As I understand it, this is the same outfit which filmed the Ann Arbor Ark solo show last spring, 5 people in Richmond with the ringleader being a Richmond resident. For what purpose, not sure yet, but we gave “consent” to be part of it by entering, according to a tiny sign over the box office. Maybe we’ll show up on celluloid.
So is Arthur Ashe memorialized with the Richmond heroes too?
Anybody see ex-Long Ryder, ex-Jayhawk Stephen McCarthy at the National show? He supposedly lives in Richmond and was hanging out after.

Get Right with God {lu signs off with “Love Peace and Revolution–the right kind of revolution–Don’t let the TEa Party–I mean the bastards–get you down”–Immediately one woman ascends the stage and embraces Lu, followed by another woman/another hug before local security and guitar tech Rick shoo them back down]Fine night, though Lu had constant monitor problems and at least a half dozen onstage consultations with monitors guy Seth between songs. Raleigh fans were a bit intrusive with shouted requests, a couple of times drowning out Lu while she was introducing the song already chosen.
Blake Mills did a fine if short opening solo set, topped off by “I Just Wanted to See You So Bad.” During the main set, Lu called him “a star in the making.” Buy his record.
stogerParticipantTom has nailed the evening so well there’s little to add here. “Hyacinth Girl” got the title track of Car Wheels, with a great intro speaking of learning to read and write (first and second grades) in Macon, plus the narrative of hearing Blind Pearlie Brown downtown. Lucinda genuinely was moved to be back in this part of the country.
Special shout-out to Susan from Sandersville, Forum “lurker” extraordinnaire: nice conversation afterwards about past shows and past lead guitar players. Middle Georgia rocks.
Only one upcoming show listed, sad to say. . .

Get Right With GodI don’t know if the order is correct; stoger, can you help us out in that regard? 😉
Didn’t make it to New England, tom. . . Perhaps Tim or someone from his contingent can come through here.
TomstogerParticipantGood report, alsoblessed. The Richmond show was filmed by “Gravel Road Productions.” Truly a fine night in this last run through the Old Confederacy (I in fact passed the intersection of Jefferson Davis Avenue on my way to the downtown venue).
A few additions: Lu called “Buttercup” the “final chapter” in the bad boy saga. She misidentified “Reason to Cry” as being from Sweet Old World but corrected that afterwards. “Ugly Truth” and “SIde of the Road” were back-to-back duos with Blake, a first I think. “Little Rock Star” was dedicated to Amy Winehouse, who was said to have “partially inspired” it. “Real Live…” was said to be the “better alive than dead” song within the sex, drugs, and rock n roll subgenre.
On to a deeper South. . .
stogerParticipantThanks for the reports. Good to see “People Talkin'” back in the list, and I believe “Little Rock Star” marks Blake’s sophomore [though not sophomoric, I bet] effort–perhaps his maiden one there. Tony, glad you survived the bears and bugs and such in the far northeast. You did see Blake with Val and others at Bardot, no? NIce mention of the Tim contingent, back in full force from my Portsmouth sighting earlier in the year, it would seem. Fair amount of the Viper Room brigade present here too. . .
I too liked Amos Lee, but does the “An Evening With. . .” billing portend two distinct Lu sets in Richmond? Hmh. . .
May see you in Orange County, Tony, unless your vacation extends summerlong.
stogerParticipantYeah, a baker’s dozen is a bit on the light side, so let’s hope Montclair (curfew-less?) and Beacon (Union-compliant, to a tee) will yield a more bountiful crop. Lafayette, you called “Little Angel, Little Brother,” but either one gig early or one too late, forgot which. Was “Blessed” solo for the duration, as lwj implies (haven’t looked on YouTube)? At any rate, the tour marches on. . . .

P.S. For the first time during the Amos Lee co-bills, Lu made a guest appearance during Amos’ set to sing with him on “Clear Blue Eyes”. As Lu was being introduced, I do believe I heard a distinct “THUMP” echoing across the pavilion as Lafayette passed out in excitement / “stroking-ness”… 😉
Brilliant reconstruction of the setlist, tntracy–feel like I was there!

Get Right With GodstogerParticipantTrue, Paul, not a rock n roll show–not that there’s anything wrong with those. A Knoxvillian named Ian was the “external” opener, had just started in fact when I spied Bill Chambers in a cowboy hat in the lobby and was able to allude to his Bowery opener. He said he was still opening “some” on this tour.
Not only did Kasey reference our Lu twice, she called her an “absolute hero” and mentioned wanting to become a singer-songwriter based on Lu’s opening set for Rosanne Cash in Australia when Kasey was 14. Then Lu returned Down Under to promote the Sweet Old World tour, amazing Kasey that she did not play the title track that particular night.
The Bijou Theatre (“entertaining Knoxville since 1909”) has a nice wall sign listing past luminaries; Lucinda’s name is right next to Montgomery Clift’s in the honor roll! Not quite the individual engraved stars outside the 1st Ave. Minn. venue, but nice.
We got “On a Bad Day” last night, fine live backup vocals from fiddler Ashley, but a bit shy of the studio version mark, if you get my drift.
Bill Chambers was excellent, particularly on lead vocal work for the Gram Parsons cover “Still Feeling Blue.”
Kasey played “the pregnancy card” and was seated for most songs, yes.
I must say some of her patter and jokes haven’t altered much in a decade’s time. That “bicycle seat” business goes back at least till 2001 when I first saw her, and the “fox hunter” narrative predates that, I’d say.
Little Bird was available at Merch, probably should have bought it. I’d say she only played 3-4 new ones, though.
So how wonderful to hear Kasey practically right across the street from my first encounter with her voice, May 24, 2001. Bringing it all back home, indeed.
